BvS turning out the way it did is more confirmation than I ever needed that it's a good thing Snyder never was allowed to touch Nolan's Batman continuity. It just wouldn't have been a good fit, to put it mildly.
In a perfect world, Jonathan Nolan would've made a successful leap to directing and taken the reigns if we're talking about extending the Nolanverse into the DCEU in a way that felt authentic. On paper it definitely had the potential to be a big crowd pleaser. But overall, I'm really really glad that the legacy of those films wasn't messed with. We may not have gotten BvS, but we could've easily gotten another film that was bad for a different set of reasons. And besides, if they had extended the Nolanverse, we wouldn't be able to get the established Bat-universe with 20 years of history that allows for such things like a dead Robin, Joker-Harley's crazy relationship, the entire rogues gallery out there, etc. You couldn't get those things without majorly retconning the universe, in which case it's really just bringing back Bale as a gimmick.
Besides, even though Bale said he was up for a fourth movie (and I'm sure would've only done it with Nolan directing) he may not have been willing to do a fifth, sixth, seventh appearance as the character.
