The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 4

I'd rather watch Suicide Squad 10 times in a row than watch any of the Thor or Hulk movies again. Same with Iron Man 2/3, first Cap, any of the Avengers so far. I even enjoyed it more than the first Iron Man although it's messier.

Yeah, the BvS ending goes on forever and the sadness is so forced from Bruce, Diana, and the extras. And I'll never understand how a CGI monster who can't speak with a very dull Trinity can be more entertaining than the Suicide Squad battling a witch.

Now I'm upset. :cmad:

Ang Lee's Hulk is an awesome film that uses comic book tussles and imagery to chart a cinematic arc of repressed memories and daddy issues.

Incredible Hulk is just a bland, corporate movie.

Both are worlds better than BvS.

I like Ang Lee's Hulk, but the villain in that one is my least favorite part of the story.
TIH is lots of fun, cool Hulk design, villain does not jump from "I love my enemy" to "I hate my enemy", his motives are clear and straightforward.

It's hard not to see some irony in the fact that Ledger's casting had such a famous backlash and then totally blew people way, while everyone seemed to unanimously think Leto was a good choice and it's now the most divisive interpretation of The Joker ever put on the big screen.

People thought Leto would rock it, but his Joker design was still mostly reviled, no?

And has that changed post-release? Did you think his design was any better in the film?

I despised the choices they made in terms of the Joker's look. the only hope I had for leto was that I was convinced he would turn in a great performance

I was wrong. So very wrong.

Well yeah, there was still plenty of controversy with the look that's true. I was definitely in the camp of not being a fan of the tats and grill, but ultimately I still had such confidence in Leto that I wasn't worried and figured it would all come together on screen.

Unfortunately, I actually was really bothered by the grill every time he smiled and the sum total of the look and his performance just left a bad taste in my mouth. The best way I can describe it is....

Jack was Jack as The Joker, but it worked. His personality fit the role perfectly.

Heath flat out disappeared and became The Joker. He created something unique out of thin air, but it was still unmistakably Joker.

Leto really just feels like some thug that happens to be a Joker fanboy. Someone trying to be The Joker. Even if Leto said he tried to steer clear of what Heath did, it just shows the big impact Heath had on the role because there are so many times where to me it sounds like his cadence is very Ledger-ish and I don't know if that was intentional or not. But it just ends up feeling like a watered down version of the character rather than a true worthy successor in the Romero-Nicholson-Ledger lineage. I was so surprised to be so disappointed.

I know people say it's not fair to compare because Leto wasn't a main antagonist, but sorry, too bad. If you're gonna follow an all-time classic performance only 8 years later, you better knock it out of the park. He'll also get more opportunities to acquit himself most likely...and I'll give him a chance. As of now, not impressed.

I'm glad you are forgiven to speak without spoiler tagging stuff here.
Describing the nonsense in the full film saves me from being disappointed by the lack of the Joker promised in trailers.

Ang Lee's Hulk is garbage. The Incredible Hulk design was awful. I only like Ruffalo's Hulk/Banner. I also thought Ed Nortonwas completely wrong for the part even though he's a good actor. I'm also not much of a fan of the character in the first place so there's that.

Leto felt like Joker to me and I liked his performance. He was still crazy, unpredictable, and didn't even seem like he was obsessed with money or style but more like he was just using it as a means to do f'd up s**t. Actually Joker being more stylish this time around was a breath of fresh air but sort of contradicting that with the gangbanger tattoos and the nasty look he has. It's like one big contradiction and I wouldn't be surprised if it's all one big joke to him. Even Harley, does he love her or does he just love having somebody there to abuse?

It's not fair at all to say too bad when it comes to his screen time because that's not Jareds fault. A LOT of scenes were deleted. All the other actors had solo batman movies where they were the main villain. He's interacting with prison guards, a thug and Harley. I mean come on. If that's all Nicholson or Ledger had to do, maybe we would be seeing a few tame scenes with them or looking at Heaths weird tongue movements going "really? My god Jack was better in every way!". Not fair at all.

I wanted a weird performance that wasn't boring, I wanted a slicker Joker this time around. I wanted Joker to be unpredictable. I got all that. Now let's see him go nuts when he has to interact with batman or pull some nutty plans to mess the bat up out of his back pocket.

Both of the Hulk movies are better than anything the DCEU has offered up so far, including SS.

Letoker was like the antithesis of the Joker, and came across more like punk thug who was a Joker fan boy. Like a bad version of one of the Jokerz gang from Batman Beyond. This Joker owned a strip club, this Joker moved heaven and earth just so he could be reunited with Harley. These are not Joker like traits, these are the opposite of who the Joker is. This Joker had no feeling of danger and unpredictability to him. I wouldn't be scared to be left alone in a room with this guy. Just kiss one of his bling bling rings and you're fine.

Nobody blames Leto for his scenes being cut, but you can only judge on what we were given, and what we were given was crap. We also don't know if what was cut out is an improvement or would magically change his story. The UC didn't save BvS.

Not even close. I don't remember laughing once or taking anything serious in those Hulk movies. None of the acting was as good as Margot/Will/Viola/Irons. And quite frankly I can't stand any of those supporting characters already.

I'll take all 3 DCEU films over the Hulk movies and Thor movies even though I would rate Thor the same as MOS and BvS UC.

I felt Jokers danger in that club scene from one look. Gotta disagree with the Leto hatred here.

Haha, Ed Norton and Tim Roth were the best parts of TIH for me, I really liked it the one time I saw it. Made me care about Hulk and the character of Bruce Banner, both of which I was never a big fan of, so for that I give the film kudos.

Have yet to see SS, so looking forward to seeing my reaction to Letoker and the rest of the movie.

Anyway, I believe we can all agree Margot Robbie is hella fine, yes?

Her opening scene, my jaw was on the floor. Sexiest woman alive. Id be in that cell in a heartbeat, and would probably get killed for it.

I think it's also because TDK really does feel like the modern update of a classic. Contrasting against Jack's B89. Ledger took that role and made it his own. And actually redefined the part for another generation. There's a lot to chew on, whereas Letoker is simplistic and dull. And yes, I realise lots of scenes were cut. But that's just how it is.

Regular Margot-- Absolutely. Harley Margot? Hell no. I'll never understand what fanboys see in make-up slathered weirdos.

You saying she's not sexy and adorable as Harley? Come ahhhhn!

And Leto is simplistic and dull, to some of you guys maybe. Simplistic, I'll give you that because he didn't have enough screen time to show too many dynamics. Like I said he's dealing with a couple of characters, not Batman or Gotham City. It's not "just how it is", it's just an opinion that he was dull.

I'm saying a lot of scenes were cut, and that's just how it is. Which is a fact, and not an opinion.

Leto had 7-8 minutes of screentime. That is plenty to leave a strong impression. People went nuts over the December 2007 trailer. That was just a trailer and by no means a full picture of what Ledger was doing, but it was enough to know that he was doing something great.
