they should be glad that some people are being respectful enough to keep their DCEU complaints out of the main threads. Because god forbid anyone takes an opportunity to vent their frustrations in a place where like minded people will be able to have a conversation and not worry about getting reported or temp banned by someone who is more than eager to oblige.
Nothing is ever good enough. They can quote me too if they want, don't really care at this point.
In my eyes, this place was less about keeping our opinions secret and more about not bringing the JL threads down with the same old diatribe. But its clear now that the real desire of some is for posters here to just keep their negative opinions on something with an overall negative perception to themselves altogether.
You're right. To me it was a "safe space" not in the sense of wanting to avoid people with different opinions, but in the sense of consciously not wanting to be perceived as a troll or a contrarian for the sake of it, cause who needs that?
It started because during BvS the hype from 2013-2016 was so overwhelmingly strong that you really couldn't voice any concerns or criticisms in that section without having that mob mentality kick in. I'm sure in many ways it was a lot like what people who weren't fans of the Nolan films during that era had to go through. I see now, that feeling sucks. In some ways I feel like all the "Snyderism" that popped up during that time and retroactive bashing of the Nolan films was somewhat of a reaction against that. So I get it, the pendulum swung the other way for a bit.
Anyhow, this subforum always stayed pretty active cause there were a group of us that engaged in an ongoing extremely passionate debate about TDKR (some for, some against) that didn't really slow down until like 2014-2015ish. I think some mutual respect was earned during that time period and we eventually learned to agree to disagree and moved on. So as the DC films picked up, it just so happened that most of us were on the same page about it, so it gave us something different to talk about rather than constantly rehashing the same Rises debates. And ultimately for me a lot of it just came down to the fact that during the BvS hype, it was just hard to keep up with that forum. It moved insanely fast. I was getting to a point where I'd rather read a few posts a day and get engaged in a conversation I could sink my teeth into, rather than waste time going through pages and pages of "DAT FLECK CHIN" and "LORD SNYDER HNNNNGGG", so this just became a natural place to continue shooting the sh** without getting lost in the shuffle or being dismissed as a hater. And I hate to play this card....but as someone who's 30 now, that forum just reeked of 18-21 year old fanboys at the time and I just felt like "what's the point?". Though some of you younger cats show amazing maturity and perspective for your age (you, Snow Queen and Shika come to mind for instance), I feel like a lot of other younger fans really get swept up in some of the worst aspects of fandom- especially these days with Marvel vs. DC and all the brand loyalty stuff.
Idk, guess I just felt compelled to share the full origin story of this place just in case you weren't aware Chip. Glad you enjoy it here though.
Nobody should feel like only anti-DCEU opinions are accepted here though. I'd welcome somebody with a level head who wanted to hang out and debate it like a normal human being. I have a good friend who adores Man of Steel and BvS (hates SS though). We disagree on MoS/BvS, but we have a sense of humor about it and I honestly do respect his opinion as I know he's a very smart guy and his knowledge of the comics far surpasses mine. It also helps that he's willing to acknowledge flaws.
