What was it that Ward pulled out from under his nail? I had left the room and missed just before this. What was the significance?

I agree with this, the second time around, as the blackout beam was approaching Phil, Tripp started firing his weapon and it slowed down the blackout beam/it never reached Phil. Then they started to beat him back.

that someone was me!t:
And you rock for that suggestion sir....
I wouldn't even care if they changed Williams to Ward
His background, and brother possibly coming back as Grim Reaper would be cool

I don't think anyone wants to consider the reality that, that may be the sole reason he'll stay on the show.....
- Why did the guy let Ward slide when he started failing the lie detector? The only thing Ward was truthful about was coming back for Skye. So someone who seemed untruthful about being a Hydra agent gets off scott free because he came back to the group for one person? That could've meant he came back to kill her or kidnap her (which he did). Maybe I'm getting things mixed up so I'll have to watch the episode again to be sure.
- Before Skye found out that Ward was a traitor I said to myself "How many times does this guy have to say that he's not a good man for her to get the hint"?
so why do you keep bringing it up? after the FF stuff, you're going to end up with a reputation.
The late Maria Stark ?Could there be another Maria that May would look for?
Yeah but how many murders did Eric Williams commit?
He betrayed The Avengers, I don't recall any murders .

So... Ward looked ready to put a bullet in May before he realized she was leaving. Did he let her go because deep down he's hesitant about killing these people, or was it simply safer to let her walk and not risk a fight?
Also I like how casually May just walked out of the Canadian wilderness when just last week they made a point to talk about how rough the 7 miles to the coordinates were.
Wasnt Simon Williams a scientist? or was it only in the cartoon..
I think Whedon mentioned some time ago that he doesnt like Wonderman.. so probably it wont be him, but you never know
I cant believe I'm saying this but i thought Skye was really good in this episode. Her breakdown over the Ward revelation was a good bit of acting. Good stuff.
Given the dearth of top notch actors, it is a bit of a shame that Patton Oswald wont be recurring. But I'm not complaining. Acting and plotting wise this was the best ep yet imo. And my personal fave.
Oh and it was nice to see Amy Acker.
Well, since you bring up FF it shows the obvious double standard. We're supposed to believe in color blind casting for Johnny Storm, but at the same time,we're supposed to count the ethnicity of the cast members to make sure we have certain races represented. You can't have it both ways.
Either its already summeror May took the shortcut route behind the base
or she has superpowers

it's Canada. she probably had 2 or 3 friendly offers to drive her back to civilization.
