According to THR they didn't even have a first draft of a script in August of this year.

The script is still being written, so nothing has been submitted formally to reps and actors.

.......

One insider says that any talk of casting is premature since the script isn't yet written.

Only recently did producer Charles Roven say that they have a first draft.

"We have a first draft, and we’re continuing to work with it. Those scripts are never fully finished until the movie is in the theaters."

I guess that answers the question.

So, this movie will feature Batman, Wonder Woman, Nightwing, Flash along with Superman ?

Why not throw in Green Arrow while we are at it ?

I'm hoping we get a Green Arrow appearance :), in the Batman/Superman fight ala The Dark Knight Returns.

Something doesn't make sense about those reports.

Didn't we have someone from production mentioning on how they were a lot farther along then what most people were assuming a few weeks ago?

And why would they film a scene (the football one) if they didn't even have A first draft to begin with....

I mean there's a thing called story boarding and such which requires a draft of a script to be available before one can film a sequence.

Goyer said that in an interview.

They probably have the story done, but there are some parts of the script they still want to polish.

They could very well have had a solid outline of the overall script, but still things could have changed.

They're probably still changing things around as we speak. They have a draft and concept designs but things are being rewritten all though pre-production.

Goyer talked about being on the MOS set a lot and doing some rewrites while they were shooting.

I remember Ben Affleck saying that he saw the early draft and liked it.. which got him interested, that was before MOS was released.

So they must be having a complete script by now.

He may have saw a treatment or heard a story pitch with some early concept designs.

Also, I see one of the Chicago papers mentions that they will film at the cemetery again.

Avengers filmed without a finished script, didn't it?

Sort of, Whedone kind of just recycled some scripts he had already written before in better works (Buffy Season 7, Serenity).

Pretty much; and I even remember Whedon saying that he would even have to rewrite some scenes while they were filming the thing.

I think he said that he'd go to Starbucks or a coffee shop whenever he got a chance and rewrite some scenes on his laptop after realizing that some stuff or dialogue wasn't working.

Why would they announce WW like they did if she's just a cameo? Doesn't make sense to me. She must have decent amount of screen time. And who knows about Flash and NW. If they are in it, they could have larger roles too. And all those Supes characters could have small roles. But we don't know.

It could be that she has a supporting role in this…again using my Star Wars analogy….Superman is Luke, Batman is Han and WW is Leia.

That could be true. I don't have any inside info, so I don't know.

it's not inside information...In February 2007, Warner Bros. hired Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write a script for Justice League, which they handed in that June to positive feedback from the studio. George Miller signed to direct in September 2007, while the studio hoped filming would start before the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. In addition, the studio was considering filming Justice League completely in motion capture, similar to Beowulf. Barrie M. Osborne was to produce, with a $220 million budget.
Filming was supposed to start in February 2008, in Australia, where post-production would also be conducted. Some shooting was to take place at Sydney Heads, while local colleges were scouted. Yet in January 2008, Warner Bros. announced the film was on indefinite hold, allowing an options lapse for the cast. The studio felt the script needed perfecting, which was impossible because of the writer's strike. As soon as the strike ended, Warner Bros. wanted to start filming in mid-April 2008. In February 2008 it was announced that production would go to Canada, despite Miller's wishes to keep production at Fox Studios Australia. The Mulroneys were rehired to rewrite their script.
Marit Allen was originally hired as costume designer, but she died in November 2007. Weta Workshop took over costume design, a decision that opens the possibility of their sister company, Weta Digital, doing the visual effects. They had a cast in place and a script.

Maybe. But it's not so much the amount of misses they've had that worries me, it's that they seem to miss the same things.

IMO they don't…Goyer's BB script was damn near perfect and the only Snyder film I didn't like was Suckerpunch.

It's fairly common, scripts are never truly finished until sometime during post. Peter Jackson was editing the LOTR script on an almost daily basis while making the movies.

When I saw you write Public Enemy, that got me thinking about "Public Enemies" the Superman/Batman comic and I had an epiphany.

Here's an idea to add to mad-sci's pitch: What if Lex frames Superman for a crime he didn't commit forcing him to be Public Enemy #1 and the animosity humanity has to him from the recent invasion+"Inspiring words" from the beloved Lex Luthor just makes him look easily guilty and these other heroes end up trying to catch Superman, but of course it's mainly Batman who's after him, just to keep to what this film essentially is from the get-go despite the recent news, that is a Batman/Superman movie where THESE characters are the ones that frequently collide and clash.

The other heroes essentially replace President Luthor's government sanctioned superhero squad from the comic. On Superman's side of things, you have Clark and Lois being journalists, searching for the truth behind the crime to clear Superman's name. This gives the chance for their characters to develop in more ways than one, something the critics bashed.

This is an idea I could run with.

Would love to hear thoughts?

This is essentially what I had in mind for what I would think a MOS 2 would be like even before Batman and Wonder Woman were added.

So they must be having a complete script by now.

Chris Nolan offered the director's chair for MOS to Affleck but he turned it down due to the action the script and story called for. This script now for the sequel must really be that good now for him to come aboard at all. I think there's a decent enough story there not be be a clutter.

Luthor and a heavy.
Seems like a no brainer.

I'd dig Lex and Metallo. Save Brainiac for a Superman solo after JL for Supes to battle him one on one for the Bottle City of Kandor and/or Metropolis.
