I don't think that's the reason. What superhero ensemble movie has he directed before Avengers? I think Marvel got Whedon for two reasons 1) he's a fan favorite and 2) He's cheap

He directed Firefly and Serenity. He wrote one of the best X-Men comics in recent memory. He's handled ensembles on Buffy. I mean, maybe you don't think handling ensembles was one of the reasons he was hired, but you'd be in the minority.

Here's the thing...I am not taking anything away from Whedon. He's talented. He does his thing and people like it.
However being able to direct ensembles is not a skill only a few directors have. It's pretty much a characteristic of the job. can you think of a director who can't direct ensembles?

I never seen his movies so I don't know much about his capacity to direct. I know he becomes the fanboy boogie man when it comes to directing movies. It is that he sucks as a director or he can't direct more than one character?

Can I think of directors who wouldn't be suited to writing and directing a large cast of comic book characters? Yes. That's what Whedon was hired for. He has a love of the genre and he can take a group of five or six "leads" more or less and put them in a story without making it seem like the characters are getting lost. Feige said almost those exact same words back when people were quizzing him on Whedon's hiring.

To pre-empt the inevitable "HAWKEYE SAYS HI" snark, he didn't get shafted, he just didn't get to be a hero for the whole movie. That won't be the case in AoU.

How can you consider Firefly or Buffy as an ensemble? Those are TV shows with multiple characters.

Whedon has the ability to make corny dialog work. What worked great in the Avengers is having the characters say and use all the cliches well. He was hired because he's got an innate ability to draw in fan bois. He made cult followings out of Buffy and Firefly.

Fan bois? Sorry, but I don't think that was the driving force.

Buffy and Firefly are essentially "team" stories. That's what I'm trying to get at here. Buffy, Firefly, X-Men...they're collections of heroes.

I thought comic fans generally like that movie.

People in these parts get really attached to the companies that make the original comics and don't tend to say nice things about competing brands.

It's the same reason I avoid ever bringing up Nolan in the MCU threads.

So Smallville was a Team story? Smallville is no different than Buffy in this regard.

I'm not sure what you're arguing here.

I think Buffy was a TV show about Buffy with a cast (as all TV shows have).

They introduced other characters (vampires and other slayers) to add to the 100+ stories they had to produce. I don't think introducing Angel makes Buffy an ensemble story.

So I think him having experience with doing "ensembles", which in my opinion is limited to his Avengers and XMen stories, is bunk. He has a history of creating cult followings and has a great rep and history of connecting with the target demos.

Just my opinion.

I believe I have stated quite a few times I am a Batman only fan why this is a shock to anyone is beyond me.

I haven't seen a single superman film the trailers never interested me sorry. I mean I want you gouys to have 40+ films I am not one of those "I don't like it so it shouldn't exist" people.

I just never was a big superman fan never have been never will be.... Batman is why I am seeing this movie.

If you like mediocre films with excessive, brainless action then see it for continuity sake, but honestly, I doubt it's going to play much of a factor plot wise in BvS... other than, "Yeah, the guy from the last movie now meets Batman."

I suppose since there were a ton of people who watched The Dark Knight without having seen Batman Begins (indeed, I've even met people who watching TDK without even knowing BB exists) you could probably watch this without seeing MOS. But it's worth watching, IMO. It might actually make you a Superman fan, who knows.

Very true, the vast majority know both Batman & Superman's origin stories. I ran into more people than I can count that had no clue about BB. I'm just like "oh my God you missed one of the best origin movies ever." haha

There are times I rue the fact that hi-res digital motion photography and editing software has become so accessible. This is one of those times.

From the director/writer/star. Who calls himself a real life ninja:

"This is the first time ninjitsu was actually ever put on film in its authentic style"

Happy Valentine's Day

fun vid.
If only bat's removed his cape before the bane fight.

Lol that was sooo dumb.

Also, dubstep ruins everything.

Buffy was absolutely an ensemble. Willow,Xander and Rupert were the main trio.

UPDATE (2/12/14): "Doctor Detroit" is back with an update on the story below...

"According to my source, the filming that is going on in LA that GM is involved with is actually for 'Tomorrowland', NOT 'Batman vs. Superman'. Furthermore, my source said the Batmobile design I originally told you about a few months ago has, in fact, been scrapped altogether because WB was dissatisfied with it (I'm assuming as a result of the Affleck/Terrio takeover), and that GM is no longer involved in its design. No word on whether or not GM will be involved in the build process.
Disinformation? Maybe. But jives with what I was told around the time Terrio took over. Time will tell what is fact and what is fiction."

Huh. Interesting.

So do you not see any other movies that don't have Batman in it? Do you not watch any of the Marvel movies? You should look at Man of Steel as just another movie, not as "I only like Batman so there's no chance I'll like Superman". Who knows, you might winding up liking it or at least enjoying it to a certain extent?
