Battlefield 3 - Part 1

One of the main things that has been bugging me for a while is if you fire an RPG then get killed, the rocket will just disappear. I hope that is included under the fixed bug labelled :"Damage from bullets will now continue to cause damage even after the firing user is dead"

Pat, apparently the massive MP update really fixed up all the spawn points etc in CQ, so there's every chance they may have fixed up Metro. I'll be interested to see if it feels any different.

Hm, i didn't even notice. Gonna have to check it out. Altho iv been on a RUSH kick lately.

I wish they'd fix the damage output in Hardcore mode. Still takes too many shots to drop someone.

I had a dude spawn right on top of me in Conquest lol, I've never had that happen before the patch. I'm chalking it up to bad luck.

I'll have to pop this game back in tonight to try out the new stuff. Any word on how the new guns or new vehicles play?

Haven't tried any of the new guns, but i did try a new dune buggy thing. Its pretty nimble but of course, NO match for a tank, hah.

Isn't there a Harrier jet or something? Looked pretty sweet in the trailer.

Yes, these are the kind of maps I come to Battlefield for. I really can't say I particularly like any of the vanilla maps of BF3, but these new(old) ones are great.

Just had the greatest round on Rush. Man, why haven't I been playing this recently? Damn Skyrim sucked me away from all these brilliant games :P

Also, apparently I have the highest skill on the leaderboard out of our Avengers Hype platoon..... Go figure :P

Man, I'm surprised at the general positivity to the BTK maps. I've been playing them and I find for the most part they're dreadful (in CQ anyway).

I'm sure it's partly because of the new patch, but in certain levels it's nearly impossible to do, well, anything as a ground unit because there's like 50 billion jets in the sky and all of them are nigh unkillable and can take out a tank IN A SINGLE PASS. So stupid, IMO. So now, instead of having the jet fighters and helis taking each other out while ground units secure objectives, the jets and helis just completely devastate the entire landscape. Jets/heli's are RIDICULOUSLY OP in this new patch.

But the problems didn't just stem from the patch for me. Some of the designs of the maps are mind boggling. I dunno the name of the map, but there's one where one of the objectives is a TV station. If the enemy gets on the roof, god help you, because there's only ONE way up to the roof and it's a staircase. So, if there's one enemy squad up there, your chances of regaining control are pretty much zero.

Adding to that, I played another map (some huge beach) where players were hitching rides on helis and then jumping out on the very tops of tall buildings. Then, they'd pull out their mortars and bomb the crap out of people below, or just lay down and snipe. The problem? THERE'S NO OTHER WAY TO GET TO THE TOPS OF THOSE BUILDINGS. Therefore, they can literally just sit there the ENTIRE MATCH unless you are lucky enough to parachute to the top of the building to kill them.

I dunno, man. I was wondering if I'd get used to them and maybe like them better once I got to know the layouts, but I've found they're just poorly designed for the most part. Couple that with the (IMO) stupidly ridiculous patch it just makes the game frustrating as hell.

Though I will say I like the tweaks to bullet damage. Feels much better now.

Yeah, on one of the maps there was this dude piloting the Viper and I couldn't shoot him down. Whichever spawn I went to he was there carpet bombing the whole area, it was ridiculous. I finally managed to disable it when the tickets were at 50-200+ so I rage quit and now stick to Rush.

To get instant parachutes btw load out as Recon and set up a spawn point, but make sure the antenna is clipping into a wall or something. Suicide. It'll spawn you in the air. ???. Profit.

Unrelated to BTK or the patch, but I think the frequency of MAV kills is also ridiculous. They're almost impossible to destroy without a lock-on missile, and it seems like it's dead easy to kill people with them just by flying into them. I saw a guy with 200+ MAV kills on his dogtag. Dumb.

I think the new maps are more than fantastic, on Rush at least. I haven't played them on Conquest yet and considering how poorly designed a map like Op Metro is, its very possible u have the same thing in the Karkand expansion.

As for a jet taking out a tank in a single pass, thats the way it should be. They are one of any army's biggest advantages. It shouldnt take multiple passes with a jet firing tank busters to disable a tank. One pass is all it should require.

Hopefully not, this was in BFBC2 & there were so many instances of both you & your shooter dying at the same time because both of you were hitting & the bullets seemed to survive that split second after one of you has died to kill the other.

@B,

But that's how it should be. If you've fired an RPG then you die, the missile shouldn't mysteriously disappear out of the air.

Even if it's more realistic, it still makes the jets/helis stupidly OP. I was in a heli during CQ on one of the new maps (with the TV tower thing) and I was literally unstoppable. Ground units, tanks, enemy helis...nobody could even remotely shoot me down. Like, is that really how the game should play? It's only fun for the pilot. IMO it was way more balanced before they nerfed the stingers.

Also, I was playing a game with Wolvie today and realized how insanely hard it is now to take out tanks with RPGs. We played SQDM and got run over by another squad simply because the tank WOULD NOT DIE. As soon as we managed to blow it up after they'd racked up a billion kills, their team was god awful and we slaughtered them for a while until they got into another tank and proceeded to be basically unkillable.

I know tanks/jets/helis should be a force to be reckoned with, but they shouldn't be WMDs in the hands of any noob who hops into one. Christ, even in Tank vs Tank battles it seems almost stupid how much damage they can take. I just can't comprehend why DICE would've changed that.

To be honest, I don't think there should be tanks in SQDM at all. Nothing above a jeep. Vehicles are great in a game with 2 teams, each with a balance of vehicles, but when there's one overpowered vehicle in a game with three teams playing, it's just ridiculous.

Good playing with you though Balthus. You need a mic :P Also, sorry for that 'Pwned' guy. Arseface and I only just met him and he turned out to be a major pain in the ass.

Ever since the patch, conquest on Metro has been difficult for the team who starts on point C. When I always played from point A we got bottle necked and spawn camped into oblivion, but now it's the exact opposite. It must be the weapon damage, that's all I could figure. I also notice how noobs will squat on the nearest point at the beginning of a round instead of rushing for B like the smarter team. I saw my entire team squat on C, getting their delicious points, while I'm rushing to B like a madman only to find I'm the only one! and I get killed by the other team's rushers.

See, I always found that with point C. I don't think the patch has anything to do with it at all, that's a hard map to play conquest on.

Yeah, I agree about SQDM, but even when we went to play Rush on Wake Island the tanks ran a train on us. Attackers get one tank, a couple of dinky cars and a chopper, while the defenders had two anti-airs (which basically make the chopper a flying slice of swiss cheese) and at least one tank. The one tank is hard enough to kill, but the anti airs are just as tough. Couple that with the fact that mines are literally useless now and rockets just scratch the paint, it's just stupid IMO.

I liked how Tank vs Tank used to have some strategy to it. You'd have to maneuver and stuff and it was all about who got to 4 hits first. Now it seems like it's just a stupid "LETS SMASH KNUCKLES TOGETHER AND SEE WHO BREAKS FIRST HURRRRRR!!!!" matchup.

Also, I have a mic but I use headphones a lot of the time which renders the mic unusable. :o

I noticed that, too. It seems a bit more back and forth to me than before, though. I still managed to camp the **** out of A-spawners once we secured B, but they seemed to sneak through a lot easier than before. I dunno why.

I quite like Squad Rush, never really played it before but it's pretty fun. Like a much, much better version of Demolition from Call of Duty.

Im just not seeing that, at all. Maybe its because you are playing the normal mode? But that stuff doesn't happen in hardcore mode. If you roll up on a tank and they get you first, you aren't going to survive more than 4 hits, unless someone is repairing you. Both the tanks and air vehicles are easy kills if driven by a noob. Put them in the hands of an experienced player though and thats a different story. Tanks also aren't difficult to stop. Two well placed rockets(on the side or in the rear) considering they dont have reactive armor and its disabled. But even if all that exists, there should be a slight imbalance in the vehicles favor. Thats why they are used. Tanks, heli's, jets all are used to TIP the balance to the controlling army's favor.

That's not quite what Balthus is saying Pat. in the game we were in, the lack of balance over which vehicle each team had was ridiculous. Like he said, attackers getting a helicopter was almost worthless when the defenders get TWO AA mobile guns. It was pretty ridiculous.

Also the use of vehicles is very unbalanced in Squad Deathmatch because it is MUCH harder to work with your squad to take down a vehicle when there are three different teams trying to kill you. And even if you eventually take it down, you end up coming last from all the lost time when you could have been killing other teams. Very frustrating.
