No matter who was cast the internet was going to call it the worst choice ever.

Fans sometimes love casting choices overwhelmingly.

It happens.

But it's rather silly to expect everyone to co-sign everything the studio chooses to do.

Affleck is a good actor.
He made a crappy job in a crappy movie called Daredevil, and it was the best thing that ever happened to him because he reinvented himself as an actor and become an amazing director.

I still remember when he was younger and everyone (me included) said he was perfect to play Superman (even the mag Wizard made that casting call).

Affleck is not my first choice, but could have been a lot worse...

I think Affleck has unfortunately taken on a caricature image among many.

He certainly is a solid actor and a very solid director. Very talented.

But once an image sets in it is hard to overcome. Especially with social media being what it is.

Try an experiment. Go to Starbucks or wherever you get your coffee and bring up the subject. That will give you an idea of GA perceptions as opposed to fan-boy perceptions.

From what he said the plan is that Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor are friends
but lex is head of a multinational crime organization. Bruce does not know
this, but as lex is helping rebuild metropolis he is also trying to turn public against superman. superman uncovers the conspiracy about lex and tries
to take on Lex this is where the conflict between superman and batman starts. Lex has got hold of krypton tech from the debris and uses it against
superman evening up the fight.

Really really really bad.........Bruce Wayne/Batman is duped by a bad guy and not only that he is Lex Luthor's champion!!!!!!??????.
This!
Now i'm worried....

I've honestly already grown overly tired of people citing Daredevil as the reason why he's going to be bad as Batman.

I'm not worried by that plot because I don't buy it. The press release described Batman as an older, experienced guy with wisdom. This isn't his first rodeo.

I tried Marmite a few times and gagged every time. Sometimes I swear I still have the bad taste in my mouth. It is exactly the same with Ben Affleck. Your analogy is spot on.

You gagged on Affleck?

I'd have sold that to a newspaper.

Ermahgerd!

AFLAC!

Ben has worked years to get his reputation back, I don't believe he would take this role if he didn't truly believe in it. I know they apparently gave him directing gigs, but one bad outing as Batman/Bruce could ruin everything he has worked for over the past decade.

Dude won an Oscar and has 3 critically acclaimed movies, its not going to ruin that.

Affleck has some baggage as an actor so he's an easy target. But there was no slam dunk choice. We could poke holes at every single actor. That's what we've been doing with the Batman casting rumors anyway.

I'm curious as to what kind of options Ben signed for. Wiith a younger actor and given WB wants at least a Batman trilogy if not more films after WF, did he do the standard 3 picture deal? Or more?

If WF does well and Ben is embraced as Batman and given he is a bit older I could see this leading to a Batman solo or two after WF before JL.

What The ****?
Are they falling to Jonah Hex level, or what? I can't believe it's going to happen. Shame shame shame you, Warner Brothers!!!

Ben Affleck as Batman. I hate this now!

Here's a quote from Greg Silverman on the choice of actor:
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some".

Are they kidding? Affleck an extraordinary actor? Is this a late April fools joke?
Why couldn't WB understand that an actor with more gravitas, like Jude Law, would be better for the final product, quality-wise?

:hehe:

I don't know if I like the choice of Affleck or if I simply like it better than the rumored contenders.

Can't we take middle lane for a change? Always have to be absolute right or absolute left?
How about "he might be decent"? Or "he will be great, but not Heath as Joker great"? Or anywhere in the middle?

This. Both extremes are getting really tiresome at this point.

Agreed. Daredevil was not his fault. Daredevil was the studios fault look at Daredevil DC it is a great movie when you watch it. IMO the DC version is one of the best comic book origin movies right after MOS, BB and Punisher DC.
