Henry Cavill IS Superman: - - - - Part 13

He didn't play Reeve's version of Superman so why would he mimic the DP Kent performance if a sequel happens? Of course his Kent should blend in but not by acting like a clumsy doofus. No matter what they do the glasses disguise will always be silly and a little dumb and yet it's apart of Superman lore so I'm okay with it.

I had a lot of issues with this movie but Cavill definitely wasn't one of them. He was great. On top of all the excellent commentary mentioned already, one of the things that really stood out for me was how well he did the "lost" Clark. Based on all the reviews talking about the film's overly serious tone and about how they upped the angst and brooding (even Travers and IGN said that in their positive reviews), I was worried Cavill was going to be Batman-esque in brooding. All emo and filled with angst. Definitely did not happen. His Clark seemed lost and adrift and a bit contemplative, but still good-natured and humble and likeable. He was very Clark still. He didn't seem like he had a chip on his shoulder at all. Just adrift and uncertain.

In regards to the Daily Planet scene, I'm a little worried about what they have planned, based on Goyer's comment about how ridiculous the glasses are and how they need to figure out how to handle the whole disguise situation. I hope that doesn't mean they feel they need to come up with some crazy sci-fi explanation for it all or have the disguise fail or something and do away with it. I think they just need to give the full comics explanation its due and some Nolan exposition. As others mentioned, despite being very distinctive looking, Cavill has this incredible habit of looking really different depending on how you style his hair and so forth. Remember how different he looked with that weird hairstyle in the first shot in the suit? As some have already mentioned, just play up that gawkyness we kinda saw at the end. Put him in oversized clothes, make his Clark hair bigger to change his head shape and its proportions to the rest of his body and change his posture. Up the pitch of the voice. Essentially, use the same tricks used to make Cavill seem younger, awkward, less filled out and teenager-ish during the tornado flashback.

I really, REALLY hope there is an actual difference between DP Clark, Superman, and Real Clark. When they're all basically acting the same, its very dull.

The greatest thing about Cavill is the mannerisms and facial expressions he gave the character. I feel that some critics have missed it.

That pretty goes without saying in my opinion. However, I think we are getting an interpretation where Superman will seem like more of the real Clark, simply because people like Lois and Perry are in on the ruse. I mean any private interaction between Superman and Lois will really be between Real Clark and Lois so that is a HUGE change from the past. It's something that I am looking forward to immensely. I loved the post-Crisis Lois and Clark marriage, being a family man like that felt so Superman. One of my favourite moments in Man of Steel for that reason was when Lois called out "Clark!" when Superman had to fly off and leave her in the cornfield. As much as I love the will they/won't they of the classic love triangle on a temporary basis, nothing beats the relationship of having Lois in on the secret.

He wasn't goofy at all, he gave Lombard a very strong and manly handshake :D
I might catch more in my second viewing but it was such a brief scene to me. Maybe I was too busy focusing on how cute Cavill looked in glasses.

J/k

THIS!! I wanted to take out my phone and record it! but I was too busy staring like an idiot at that perfection. The outfit was so adorable, jeans, a plaid t-shirt with a tie, a black jacket over it to make it look more 'professional' AWW CLARK! :hehe:

hell yeah! that's something you don't see very often! :hehe:

I just freaking LOVE that Lois knows and knew before his debut.

Although I am a heterosexual male, cute is the perfect description of how Clark looks there (if I can trust my memory). It's weird because Cavill looks so rugged, manly, and mature at Superman. I'm still surprised at how different he looked in the final scene. He had far more of cute, dare I say boyish, lanky, geek chic look as Clark.

I said this somewhere else, he is the first actor to make me forget about Reeve. He did not surpass Reeve, because that is just perfection. However, he made the role his own. And that is more than I can say for Tom Welling, Brandon Routh or Dean Cain.

He owned the role and everytime he was on screen, I just thought "that's Superman." He is just a different Superman. One who is more conflicted and self-aware of his inner turmoil. A modern take that worked wonderfully, even if the third act of the movie has massive problems.

I don't know why, I can't explain it, but watching Clark come to the Daily Planet the 2nd time was so much better than the first. The first time I was mad because they just skipped over the whole process of how he came up with the identity, but the second time I felt so happy that OMG!! It's CLARK KENT!!! And yes, Henry is unbearably cute, dare I say hot (I'm a bi guy, so I can say that without shame) as "Clark" which is exactly why I need more of it in sequels

Exactly. N it hurts me a little to realise that there is someone can really replace reeve. Consider im 100% reeve superman fan.

I really love that Lois knows as well.

And as for Cavill in the glasses and Clark Kent clothes...he's just damn. I can't lie, I found him distracting good looking at times. That doesn't take away from his performance of course, it's just something that happens.

His scenes with Martha were some my favorite parts.

And I gotta say, Dylan Sprayberry did a fine job as Clark Kent. Great casting too.

I love Cavill's performance in Jonathan's death scene. He embodies a younger version so well in the car. You could tell in his voice tone.

He's a good cryer as well.

I really liked his scenes with Martha as well. And yes, the young actor did a good job.

Cavill did look different with the glasses of course not enough for you to not know he's not Superman but something definitely looked off. I truly thought the ending was perfect :woot:

LOL A woman with great taste in musculature! Mad props.

I've said since the very first spy photos of Cavill during the oil rig scene, that what makes him stand out from the pack is his great back. No doubt thanks to GymJones and their great emphasis on functional strength. But yeah, as important as the barrel chest is to looking like Superman, being able to see his lats from the front and that epic V-shape torso is as much a part of Superman's iconic silhouette. Afterall, that is what makes him look so epic and masculine in the classic hands on hips pose. It is no coincidence that the pose is called in bodybuilding a "front lat spread".
Cavill's back is extremely well developed. Many actors ignore it because in their shirtless scenes, they just have to show their abs and pecs but Cavill trained his entire body.

The sweep of his lats just took his physique to another level.

And his trap muscles are well developed enough to give Tom Hardy a complex.

Really great job looking like Superman.

I thought he did seem different at the end, not like a whole lot but something just seemed different about him
