Person Of Interest - Part 2

I'm kind of surprise that Team Machine didn't figure out right away that Samaritan was behind it all. The moment they introduced the POI and what he does, it was rather obvious that Samaritan was up to something. I wished the just let the guy on it and recruited him. He could've been a great asset.

Acker's expressions were all kinds of cute in this episode. :hrt: I loved that scene of her, Reese, and Finch eating Chinese food. It's a nice moment especially when everything is so tense.

Is there any reason behind why Martine is dark haired now? Just seems so out of the blue. When she and Greer were talking, I thought for a second that they were going to bring out a brainwashed Shaw to take out Root. I needed more of Root beating her to death! :p

Cara Buono might have been working on another project in-between filming POI.

I think I saw it mentioned she was filming something back in either January or February so it makes sense she probably wouldn't have the time to get her hair blonde again unless they did it with a wig.

Cara Buono reminds me of Gina Davis now with darker hair, anyway I really enjoyed this episode glad we got to see more of just how dangerous Samaritan can be.

I figured they would've just made her wear a wig if her darker hair was for another show. But I guess they didn't think the change would matter since changing her appearance is not out of character for her role. I was wondering if there's something more to it. :p

I've said it before, Amy Acker deserves more recognition for her work as Root, she was brilliant again this week, from her scenes stealing the briefcase to her humour when they were eating Chinese to her pain when fighting Martine.

I also thought the scenes with Reese and Zoe were good as always, their banter is fun. :D

I am guessing the briefcase with the Faberge egg in will be needed to transport something fragile and important in the war against Samaritan.

That was crazy. And Greer nonchalantly shooting the Kahn before treating himself to a cigar at the end. Cold-blooded.

I was kinda surprised, I thought they brought him there to recruit him not kill him.

Sci-fi writer Peter Watts on how Person of Interest elevated itself to "one of the most consistently well-thought-out and rewarding exploration of artificial intelligence [he's] seen."

But perhaps what’s most impressive are the little details that emerge without fanfare or commentary. The chaotic palimpsest of interconnected and overlaid thumbnails that represent the Machine’s view of the world, restored on reboot into a perfectly aligned grid of columns and rows. The way that icons and overlays change color as the program internalizes some new fragment of overhead dialog; the fractal proliferation of branches and probabilities sprouting from that voiceprint file as the downstream scenarios update. Transient characters have names like Turing and von Neumann— even Iain Banks, in one episode. Not all the callouts are so obvious: how many of you caught the Neuromancer homage when Finch walks past a row of payphones, each ringing in turn for his attention and then falling silent?

And when the Machine’s nemesis Samaritan boots up to the strains of Radiohead’s OK Computer? I just about wet myself.

The contributors to this thread seem to be mostly on the positive side. But on other forums, there’s a fair share of complaints. To wit: the show was good in the first two seasons - with its largely stand-alone, “victim of the week” format; and the wheels came off when it started to veer into Machine/AI-centric stories. “I signed on to a crime procedural - not science fiction!” is a common criticism.

So it’s interesting that this writer takes something of an opposite view: the early procedural stuff was crap, and POI got much better when it fully embraced its sci-fi potential.

when the show first started, it was a procedural crime drama with a team that was getting numbers from a Machine who was obviously an AI of a sort, though it wasn't exactly shown to be that at first, but it was slowly becoming evident to even the most slow-witted viewer... what the hell did these people expect that the show was going to evolve into as it progressed into what the show is now?!?... do they honestly think or are they hoping that the show is going to go backwards and revert to how it was at the start if they b**ch long enough and hard enough?...

it's like that quote they say about living in America... love it or leave it... if you don't like it, then get the hell out and GO...

God if this show was still like it was in season 1, I'd drop it. I have no interest in procedurals. Season 1 worked as a season 1. It set up a lot of elements and gave us a status quo. If it continued with every episode being stand alone though, I'd have no reason to watch. I find those shows dull beyond belief. People don't want sci fi and just want a procedural, well as Thunderstrike said, what the hell did you expect when a show has an AI from the outset? For it to just remain a plot device to get to victims of the week? That'd be lazy and awful. If you want a procedural, stick to one of the dozens out there already.

Yeah, I'm not sure how people thought a show with an AI program created to monitor terrorist activities worldwide for the US government wouldn't get bigger than just run-of-the mill crimes.

Sounds like things are going to continue to get worse for Team Machine. At some point though, Nolan and Plageman need to give them some type of positive traction going forward.

I'm honestly surprised the CBS promo department hasn't played up the fact that Taraji's making a guest appearance. She's the breakout character on the biggest new show of the season, why would you play coy about her showing up again?

I find CBS' promo department to be severely lacking for shows not named NCIS or Big Bang Theory and decidedly more so for shows that aren't CBS Studio shows.

Incredible episode and a great send off for Carter.

There needs to be a limit how many times they get to shatter my heart in one season.
