Wrong, I was weighing in on how I feel about the film given the new information. Which is the point of the thread. I didn't get argumentative until people starting putting words in someone's mouth whose actually read the ****in' script and then started throwing out the same old tired "critics sux" arguments. I'm not, haven't, and won't argue with someone whose excited about the movie. We can talk, but I'm not here to say "you shouldn't like this!" If that's the impression I gave earlier, then I'm sorry, now perish the thought. I will however argue with someone about the nature of film criticism and I will argue with them if I think they're forcing someone's statements to fit their view of things.
This will be the last I will say on this specific matter. I do not have the means to make myself anymore clear.
Okay, I lied, one more. I reread McWeeny's tweets. Here's the words:
"Robocop is a Transformer. He goes from "social mode" to "combat mode" and back. Full transformation."
That should be the last nail in the coffin when it comes to what he meant. It's not an OS change. I should have just gone back to the tweets two pages ago.
Okay, now I'm done.
It seems you were right about the Tranformers thing, but what you did was take that comment, and make it sound like they have ruined the film, and have gone with mainstream just because a popular film has done so. You are running with as many accusations as anyone else in here. Yes one critic....said something. But a lot of us also trust, the director, the many superb actors involved ect.
I would say I put more weight in them. But does it matter? You ran to assumptions with the Tranformers thing that it has been "Hollywoodized" right off the bat. To me that is really what I was arguing more with. Not the fact that he actually tranforms. You are already saying this film is generic...when Drew said nothing of the sort, he hated it but I think for his nostaglic glasses he has put on with Robocop.
Your quote:
I just seems so Hollywood too. You know those suits want something Transformers-esque so they can load the trailer up with dubstep sound effects. "Hey, those big robot movies are making a killing. Lets dust off that Robo-fellow and make sure he has a ****load of moving parts this time."
You are making as many assumptions as anyone else here. Some of us trust the cast and crew involved, you will trust one critic that has an nostalgic crush on the first film. But who knows who will be right. Guess we will have to see.
