RoboCop Reboot - Part 1

Wrong, I was weighing in on how I feel about the film given the new information. Which is the point of the thread. I didn't get argumentative until people starting putting words in someone's mouth whose actually read the ****in' script and then started throwing out the same old tired "critics sux" arguments. I'm not, haven't, and won't argue with someone whose excited about the movie. We can talk, but I'm not here to say "you shouldn't like this!" If that's the impression I gave earlier, then I'm sorry, now perish the thought. I will however argue with someone about the nature of film criticism and I will argue with them if I think they're forcing someone's statements to fit their view of things.

This will be the last I will say on this specific matter. I do not have the means to make myself anymore clear.

Okay, I lied, one more. I reread McWeeny's tweets. Here's the words:

"Robocop is a Transformer. He goes from "social mode" to "combat mode" and back. Full transformation."

That should be the last nail in the coffin when it comes to what he meant. It's not an OS change. I should have just gone back to the tweets two pages ago.

Okay, now I'm done.

It seems you were right about the Tranformers thing, but what you did was take that comment, and make it sound like they have ruined the film, and have gone with mainstream just because a popular film has done so. You are running with as many accusations as anyone else in here. Yes one critic....said something. But a lot of us also trust, the director, the many superb actors involved ect.

I would say I put more weight in them. But does it matter? You ran to assumptions with the Tranformers thing that it has been "Hollywoodized" right off the bat. To me that is really what I was arguing more with. Not the fact that he actually tranforms. You are already saying this film is generic...when Drew said nothing of the sort, he hated it but I think for his nostaglic glasses he has put on with Robocop.

Your quote:

I just seems so Hollywood too. You know those suits want something Transformers-esque so they can load the trailer up with dubstep sound effects. "Hey, those big robot movies are making a killing. Lets dust off that Robo-fellow and make sure he has a ****load of moving parts this time."

You are making as many assumptions as anyone else here. Some of us trust the cast and crew involved, you will trust one critic that has an nostalgic crush on the first film. But who knows who will be right. Guess we will have to see.

Yeah, all those comments are just me sharing what I think. Just like what everyone is doing. Why are you allowed to be excited and I'm not allowed to feel some trepidation when I critic I respect expresses some reservations? I've said, repeatedly now, I don't begrudge anyone being excited for this movie. Go for it. Have fun. All I ask is you extend me the same courtesy. I only hammered someone for having an erroneous reading of what someone whose read the script had to say. Now you're just giving me **** for doing essentially the same thing you're doing: speculating about the film based on very little, but I'm just not coming out the other end sharing your opinion.

One more time: you are more than welcome to be excited and I won't jump down your throat over it. Extend me the same courtesy and let me have my trepidation. I'm no more right or wrong than you, so just lay off already. You're bordering on insulting now.

I'm not saying you can't, you are hammering people for still saying they are excited, and don't trust Drew, and vice versa. I don't agree with your opinion as of now. I think you are just mad that some disagreed with it, when most of us has civilly disagreed and told you why. This is not insulting at all. Hell even one of the mods in here was agreeing with me.

No one said you can't have your opinion, read all most posts above before you say that. You again are jumping to conclusions with what we are discussing.

Seriously? Seriously? Forget it. I'm not explaining this again. This is the type of message board discourse I can't stand. It's a waste of time, nothing gets solved, and I have to repeat myself over and over and over and over again. Later.

I've been watching Robocop now, and I think ED-209 is badass. The effects work great. He has so much personality and weight to his body language. And good god, the sound work is phenomenal. The way his feet thud and his voice booms like an IMAX sound system, the guns that sound like cannons. It's exemplary work.

To tie back to something I said earlier in the thread, I hope they don't lose that sense of mass. ED-209 feels like a very deadly walking murder tank. That he doesn't quite work right just makes him feel that much more dangerous. I like the new design and I hope he doesn't turn into a weightless Michael Bay Transformer that hops around. Something ike that Mech Suit in District 9. It can move but it always feels heavy.

As for the rest, sorry I still think you are taking it too literal.
parts of his body will transform into battle mode. so he will be able to get hit with mroe bullets and maybe a rocket. when in normal mode he will be able to walk faster and do more fighting. this is what he meant with transformer mode IMO.

if it was about some software inside his head Drew wouldnt use the word transformer. he is not an idiot.

about to ''literal''. i remember this word being used when talking about TDKR filming in 2011.

i dont understand this part. how can you trust the cast? they signed the contract based on the script. they are not able to change it. and all the known actors(very good actors) in this movie were already in very bad movies.

the only actor who i think will never be in a bad movie is daniel day lewis. but thats because its been obvious for more then 10 years that he doesnt act for money.

facepalm.gif

what? Prometheus was the last movie i was hyped about. being positive based on the cast and director. Prometheus was to me one of the biggest scifi disappointments. and it will never happen again.

no that facepalm is to bringing up a point that doesnt even matter. Some people have faith in the cast. I dont see what's not to understand about it

And it's also a facepalm because a really good thread turned to crap in the last day because people bring up points that dont matter like not understanding that people have faith in the cast to people getting in page long arguments about a comment that 1 blogger made on the script.

But, alas, the facepalm doesnt help anything.

Pandemic Scene To Be Featured In ROBOCOP?

A Niagara-based vehicle production company who supplied prop vehicles for Total Recall remake are in talks to give some ambulances for the upcoming Robocop remake, and let a detail slip about the film.
Alex Lynch - 8/12/2012
Niagara Classics Transport is a provider that offers custom vehicles for film and telelvision production, which were recently featured in the Total Recall remake and TV spots for The Olympic Games.

During an interview with a Niagara newspaper, NCT revealed that a Robocop film crew are currently in discussions with them to provide vehicles which would double as retrieval ambulances in a pandemic scene.

The president of Niagara Classics Transport, David Mole said “We’re helping to recreate a catastrophe that happened in the original story."

Could this catastrophe be when Clarence Boddicker gets the launchers and causes panic in Detroit City? We may possibly know more once Robocop starts shooting in early September in Toronto.

It's from CBM, so make of that what you will. I just wanted to talk about something

what about Crowe - Gladiator,LA Confidential,The Insider,A Beautiful Mind,Cinderella Man,310 to Yuma

now MOS,Les Miserables,NOAH

he rarely if ever does bad films

Why are people here so defensive? What's so special about this project it deserves the benefit of the doubt? Just because it's Robocop?

I'll tell ya pretty much everything that's come out of Robocop as a franchise since the second movie has been pretty much garbage. Between the cartoons, the TV series, the TV movies, etc.

Is Robocop a product of its time? Most definitely but that is part of what makes it appealing to me. Same with Total Recall. But then they made it a $200 million ultra big budget movie for PG-13 . . . and it didn't work.

I think ED-209 still looks great. Design and stop motion work is awesome. And then when he fights with Robocop and Robocop is still smart enough to grab its arm cannon and point it back it.

Well, Cinderella Man was crap imo, so was A Good Year, so was State of Play, Master and Commander, Robin Hood, Proof of Life and *shudders* Virtuosity.

Day Lewis works far less often than Crowe, but even he's had a couple of stinkers (Nine, There Will Be Blood, Gangs of New York, flame away, I hate those flicks).

I know they're very unpopular opinions, but yup.

This thread is just getting worse and worse...

So when do we expect a teaser?

Read an Swedish interview with Kinnaman today, in which he expressed his excitement in working with Oldman, saying he has more than half of his scenes with him.

The reporter also wrote that Kinnaman delivered the "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" line in the interview, saying he has really practiced to get that one right.

Well I'd expect a reveal of the suit in the near future as for a teaser that's still a whiles away.

Sounds awesome.

So shooting already started? Nice!

wow, just read the leaked spoilers. Jeez, can it be that freakin bad?! What were they thinking. There has to be major changes before the movie is filmed right?!

80's Robocop gets laughed at by criminals?

You've literally raped Robo and us fans up the ass with that guys.

Why would you ask a focus group made of criminals what they want their arresting officer to look like?

Probably some attempt by the movie to copy the 80's satire angle.

I understand that with the OCP employee looking at Robocop action figures.

The "he's a product" angle will be played up heavily.
