RoboCop Reboot - Part 2

I wish people would stop griping about that bare hand. its so he can smoke a cigarette.

I thought it was so he could play with himself.

Thought that's really the only "update" they made. Every Robosuit since the original film has been cast from the same molds--that is to say, every single suit has been the one they fitted for Peter Weller. It was hard to notice on Burke in Robocop 3 (he wore it well), but Fletcher (Prime Directives) had a very different body type than Weller--and as a result the suit just hung off him. Looked terrible (also, he was awful).

Wint, who plays Cable, is actually taller than Weller was--so they actually had to extend the midsection of the suit. The fit still looks a little off and I thought it looked awkward on him. Still, looked better on him than Fletcher.

Actually from what I read it was cheaper to find an actor with almost the same body dimensions as Weller than it was to retool the black undersuit the armor attaches to so that is why they got Burke, who I thought did a VERY good job as the 'new' Murphy/Robo.

As for Prime Directives, yeah you could tell that Wint could not fit into the standard suit mainly the torso and where the legs met at the point of the black undersuit and the neck and jaw part of the helmet.

No doubt, I'm sure that was a consideration in his casting. Burke has certainly proven the best of the non-Weller actors to play the role, he did a respectable job (he's the only one to get the body language right since Weller). His voice didn't quite do it for me and he was a little "soft," but that may have been the material informing the performance. All things considered, Burke's really the only thing that makes that movie worth watching.

Yep, little bit weird. Not as bad as Fletcher, though, who looked incredibly short and fat in the suit--and caused it to rattle around when he walked. God, his body language was awful, too--balling his fists up and stomping around.

Given the number of disasters that have befallen it, I'm surprised we still have a franchise at this point. I deeply need this movie to deliver, even if it's not what I would have preferred. I really would have liked a DKR-style story with Robocop being pulled out of storage in an even more futuristic Detroit.

Holy crap... now that's a brilliant idea! Dammit, now I'm disappointed that's not happening.

Now that would have been an awesome route to go down!

I'll be pissed if Robo doesnt use the Auto 9 in this new film. It's an iconic weapon with a unique sound. They better use the same sound effect for it as well!

It did give us a badass updated Robo suit in the form of "RoboCable"

I really wanted the new movie to go that direction :(

As much as you may find that cool, but seeing RoboCop (a great, great movie directed by Paul Verhoeven) become a D-list franchise, consisting of bad, trashy made for television movies was too sad for me. I think the remake is going to give some dignity back to the name RoboCop.
I hate when that happens. Same with Sam Raimi's Darkman and Ron Underwood's Tremors (which of course aren't on the same level as RoboCop, but I think you get the point).

The original Darkman is pretty awesome though. Love the fact Raimi wanted to do Batman, could not get the rights so made his own dark hero.

...the new suit design is certainly interesting.

I love Darkman. It's wonderfully over the top and theatrical, and yet very heartfelt. And Raimi's visuals and camera work are top notch, as are the actors and the score.

.

When I found myself watching parts of the mini series I couldn't believe how much shorter robocop was.

Its like they sawed off 2/3 of the leg area to accomadate a shorter actor

I do have fond memories of the 1997 cartoon "alpha commando"

The turned robocop into inspector gadget

I can almost guarantee they won't use it.

guy1: We're due in the meeting in less than 10 min, and you haven't even come up with a theme song yet. You had 6 months to work on this, what the hell are you going to do?!?!?

guy2: Don't worry, I'll just sing the words "Robocop" over and over again.

guy1: ....you magnificent bastard, you've done it again.

I LOVED Alpha Commando as a kid lol

Main concept from it I liked was his Motorcycle that he connected to

Ya know, no matter how awful Robocop got after the first movie I still loved it all. Guess it's because I'm a child of the 80's but I geek out over everything Robo.

Another problem could be with the new release of Dredd 3D, there seems to be a lot of comparisons with that to the old robocop film, just wondering when this is released whether those same comparisons will be made between Dredd and the new robocop, and with the disadvantage of the lower age rating might mean we lose that grittiness that we loved in the old robocop, but gain in box office figures. Fans reception of Dredd has been mainly positive but box office has been poor, just makes me wonder what direction the new robocop is going to take, and if it's going to impress the fans of the original.

the Robocop animated series from the late 80s was pretty sweet. at least what i remember from it. the action figures & vehicles were awesome as f***! :word:

Yeah but I mean will this be compared with Dredd 3D the same, as that is a reboot and covers the same sort of template, and will the new robocop look soft in comparison to Dredd 3D

Of course there will be comparisons between this and the old RoboCop. People can't seem to look past the fact that its a reboot. Every review of this movie is going to say something like "Well, it was a great movie, HOWEVER being a RoboCop movie it fails on all levels. The original was perfect blah blah blah."

I think the point weasel was trying to make was that some folks have cited influences of the original Robocop in Dredd 3D (ironic, since Robocop itself was heavily influenced by Judge Dredd), and wondering what the Robocop reboot might be doing different. The question of whether the new Robocop will be compared to the original is no question at all. Granted, the cast and characters cited alone gives indication that they're trying to go in a different direction with the character. A lot of focus will be on the individual scientists and engineers who actually build Robocop, moreso than the original. It doesn't even look like there will be a gang similar to Boddicker's crew, if there will be a major villain at all.

Hell, I LOVED the 90s live action series and would LOVE for it to be on DVD in USA (it is on DVD in other countries).

Robocop cap gun firing action figures were great.

A time before stricter child safety laws :D

Remember those super shiny, slightly blue tinged Robocop 2 action figures? Don't make toys like those anymore. Toys that could legitimately permanently disfigure a kid.
