RoboCop Reboot - Part 2

I don't think we ever had this amount of leaked set photos from a movie this big, am I right?
They should've released a proper official picture of the suit by now.

Yeah it is strange. There's even leaked video of the filming. It's like there's complete access to the filming by anyone. I'm not sure why the set isn't locked down like on an Iron Man for instance, where you only get a few leaks that are usually blurry shots taken from a distance.

Tad off-topic but someone might find it interesting. It appears Robocop is enjoying something of a revival. The character and the first film specifically. This is anecdotal on my part but I've dressed as Robocop at a recent Comic Convention and also last night at the largest Halloween event in Dallas, TX. I've done this for the past 3 years. This year, far more people have correctly identified me as Robocop. A kid around the age of 14 wanted a pic with me. I asked how he knew of Robocop. He said Netflix. Several older fans were also aware a remake was being made. Then of course there's the news from the 25th anniversary earlier in the year and the remake making the rounds. Now I'm starting to see things like this Slate.com article that re-visits old movies. A completely standard non-geek website. As voted on by readers, Robocop was selected from several other choices. A great review looking back at Robocop.

Did people forget " the dark knight rises" and all the SHH! Ninjas?

People on rooftops filming the climatic truck showdown

A dozen videos at heinz field

Banes voice being leaked

Courthouse fighting set videos

The bat, catwoman, the truck and a few military tumblers going down pennslyvania streets

Hadn't promo images and posters already been released by then? There are absolutely zero official images from Robocop discounting a poster of the logo and a vague picture of Robo's shoulder on the Omnicorp website.

Some interesting bits in this Aimee Garcia interview...

"Look, it’s a huge franchise. It’s a highly anticipated film. I think it kind of comes with the territory so the crew is just focused on shooting. Given the track record of the director, coupled with the cast of Abbie Cornish and Michael Keaton and Joel and Gary, I joked yesterday that the top 10 people in the Robocop cast have all either been nominated or won a Tony, an Emmy, an Oscar or a Golden Globe. It’s almost put together like an independent film but with a franchise budget, so I’m so excited. Like I said, yesterday my scene with Gary and Joel, I felt like I was doing a play. I didn’t feel like I was doing a sci-fi green screen movie and I think that that’s really going to make it hopefully a classic film and make it more like a Matrix type of movie, that not only is cool with the special effects and the greenscreen and the explosions, but it also makes you think and really challenges you intellectually. I think it’s going to be great because so far all the footage I’ve seen and anything that I’ve been a part of has just completely exceeded my expectations"

"he[Padilha] comes from a documentary background so there is nothing formulaic about him. He can’t even be formulaic if he tried. The only thing he’s done is documentaries and an incredible movie franchise called Elite Squad. So he’s naturally gritty, he’s completely organic.

I clearly remember there a bunch of candid shots for Avengers before anything was released. I'll never forget all the crying about how bad Cap's costume looked.

But I'm not too worried, the movie still has about 15+ months until release, I don't plan on seeing anything until next summer/fall. Anything before would be a plus.

Good bit of perspective on the reaction to Cap's costume. I'm not worried, just excited. I'm going to guess, and hope, that sometime after the new year we might get an official image.

Yeah, there was also the outrage about those leaked Spider-man shots and the panic that caused. And I'm sure if you go to early pages of any thread on this board, it's just a bunch of design complaints. I seem to get the feeling that people on these boards are more open to the design changes than the complaints I've seen on some other boards which is always good.

And like you, I also hope we get official pictures soon too because I have a feeling it'll make for a pretty cool looking wallpaper.

What about the 4 directives? are they have some important part in script?

Thanks!

Spoilers!!!!!

Yes, the new RoboCop is designed to be PG-13ish and that is suggested in the script by a character BUT...

Like the scene that revealed RoboCop’s face, there are two key moments in the scene that if filmed right, could live up to that raw emotion of that original scene: after Murphy is told he was gunned down and Norton with his crew are attaching a robotic body what’s left of him, he is shown what little left of him there is. All that’s left is about 75% of his head, his neck, about 35% of his chest and shoulders and his right arm and hand. Murphy is shocked and begins to tear up at the sight of him. He thinks he is a monster. He asks Norton to end his life but Norton convinces him that becoming RoboCop is the best thing for him.

The next moment is after RoboCop is revealed to the public Ellen Murphy finally gets to see her husband behind closed doors. When she sees him, Norton and his crew have taken off the robotic body. Murphy is hung up like a slab of dead meat. Norton has also screwed around with Murphy’s voice box. Ellen gets emotional from the sight Alex’s ruined body. She talks to him but when he opens his mouth to talk, all that comes out are twisted noises. She runs out crying.
Does this remind anyone else of
the reveal near the end of Duncan Jones' "Source Code?"

Neil Blompkamp (sp?) just posted on his Facebook page an article saying this and his Elysium have been pushed back 6 months

Its going to be hard for me to see Michael Keaton as a bad guy. :(

You need to watch Desperate Measures and Pacific Heights.

He was a great bad guy in desperate measures. Come to tihnk of it we dont see enough Keaton these days, he seems to pop up every once and a while and deliever a good role then vanishes. He was the highlight of the other guys.

So true, Keaton is such a great and versatile actor, hollywood should really use him more.

I don't think he's that versatile at all. He can do crazy and that's about it. Different intensities of crazy but that's it

Just read the Jan2012 script. I think this movie will be solid, and I'm excited about it. Certainly it has its corny moments, however, after all the negative reviews of this particular script (mostly based on those moments, because the rest of the script- which is about the other 80% of it- is solid) I'm sure they rewrote a bunch of stuff, hopefully including those (terrible) corny lines such as the "buy for a dollar" thing with the toy, the "let's keep him PG-13" line, the "part man, part machine, all cop" part, etc.

Other than that, I dig it. I don't think it'll disappoint, in fact, in my opinion, at worst, it will spark interest in the original that we all cherish so much.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm jacked up for this remake, especially when the original came out, I thought it was going to be lame, but loved the hell out of it.

I haven't read the script so forgive me if you're already familiar with this scene. HUGE hi-res pics at this link: http://gregmcroberts.wordpress.com/2012/11/04/robocop-remake-in-my-backyard/

"Today Robocop came to visit and bust some drug dealers! The scene they were filming was for the upcoming remake of one of my favourite movies of all time! Robocop rides down the lane on his kick ass bike and busts three drug dealers killing two and interrogating the survivors then riding off. Complete with bums and backgrounds of old Detroit, the movie has a more high tech feel with Robocop being able to hook up to the web and access closed circuit cameras. Here are a couple of the pictures I was able to get!"

As if any idea is original these days :oldrazz:

I love the designs, and the motorbike idea is awesome, but I hope to see a car

I'm sorry, but I watched the original Robocop the other day and the design of this version of the character is frankly a joke. The original design is so iconic and unique even to this day, Robocop 2.0 doesn't even attempt to pay homage to it and looks like the bastard offspring of Batman and Iron Man. I've tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but I don't care how good the film ends up, this is not and will never be Robocop.

I agree with you
It would've been nicer if they paid some homage to the original design instead of completely ignoring it
