Recognizable to the original films maybe but not something that its trying to be by itself, which Is makIng the effort of doing. Seriously, you people are holding onto the original look too much.

in doing so you start to separate yourself from the core audience.

you're trying to say something along the lines that Superman shouldn't wear a costume because it's holding to the original too much...

the visual appeal is part of the character. the color scheme is part of the character. not only does it make for a more visual appeal, but it also differentiates itself from other franchises... i said this before, and I'll say it again: this plain look makes it look too much like other franchises that include robots, or robotic like characters. compare the look of the characters in GJ JOE and this picture of this new Robocop... remove the movie titles from each of the pictures, and all mentions that distinguishes it from one another, and you will find that visual wise, they look exactly the same. the same black design, the same armor, almost the same plating... it's all the same basics.

you put a batman cowl on Robocop's head, and he'll look almost exactly like Batman.
this version of Robocop looks no different than a man dressed up in riot gear. it looks just as similar to Peru's anti-riot Delta Force.

this is why color variations are needed in a medium such as this. to distinguish him from others, to differentiate the character from the rest of the individuals around him. You dont give Superman civilian clothes to fight crime in. you give him a uniform that distinguishes himself to let others know ho he is.

a two-tone color scheme helps Robocop distinguish himself from the rest of the police force.

A better look but it's still got too many segments for my taste. The old armor had the chest/back being two pieces, not a whole bunch of parts.

based on all the pics it looks like the company is showing robocop to some people, his wife and partner. why is he in combat mode?

Who said anything about that? This is the scene where they reveal RoboCop to the press and public.

wasnt it said that the dark color body is the combat mode?

that was only said by a user here. We don't know if that's true or if they changed it. I originally heard that when they reveal RoboCop, he's in the original suit/a crappy one that people make fun it. I guess that's no longer here either.

they showed the first suit to criminals. then they change it.

everything that was said from the user that is in the script is also in the set pics. so the real script leaked. i belive that the dark body is the combat mode.

perhaps they'll add the coloring in post-production

No he is not "revealed" to the public as the old suit. When he first arrives to Detroit they are showing him to the public, and manipulating his family to make him not seem like a robot, but just a better man with technology aiding him.

There is a moment where he does go into combat mode there if I'm not mistaken, when he arrests someone in the crowd.

maybe they filmed today the part where he changes to combat mode. in the next day he will have the grey police suit on to film when he is showed to the public.

-The first suit is supposed to be more reminiscent of the original silver suit.

-The second one is similar, but is all black.

-The third is changed to a greenish armor.

-The fourth is now color changing. He can now look like a regular cop with a blue uniform on, and then when in intimidation mode, will turn all black and look more like a SWAT officer.

I think this is the second suit.

The Black combat mode is really his primary mode.

The Blue/Gray Social mode is, more or less, secondary.

However, as the movie progresses, those might switch.

Nah but there is a difference of what people on forums think about the visuals. Trust me, being on these forums forever, people have gripped about Begins/TDK/SR/MOS/All Marvel films, about the costumes. And some try to make their point that the "key" aspect of the character that makes him visually stand out has been taken away, therefore there is something wrong. Then as time goes on, people don't care once the film comes out, and very few talk about it anymore. People freaked back in the day with B89 my dad always said (he was a comic book guy) when Burton's costume was revealed, people said the key aspect of Batman was taken away.

And you keep saying you don't give Superman yadda yadda. Ya tell that to Kurosawa (now banned) with Superman, apparently to him taking away the trunks destroys the entire character, and its not Superman in MOS. So some are going to find problems with it, but I think most will warm up to different interpretations/modified appearances, they have so far with every single comic book character. But if it the design gets a lot of flak, and the movie is somewhat popular, maybe in the sequel they will change it up some. Who knows?

So some will say it is not faithful, and takes away, that is your right. But honestly I think this does look like a different/updated version of the suit. I don't need silver in it to make me like it. Of course I will wait till I see the film to see how fits more in the context of the directors visual pallet.

No I think they have him in the final version when he first goes to Detroit, he is in other parts of the world with his earlier versions if I'm not mistaken.

It might be, I dunno? I just don't know how much of an aesthetic difference it'll be between version 2.0 to version 4.0 in intimidation mode?

I don't know as well, but I'm pretty sure it said he was version 4.0 when he first came to Detroit.

Officer Lewis has turned into Omar? :awesome:

he was.

He never is unveiled to the public with the other suits and yes, he doesn't return to detroit until he is complete; Robocop 4.0, the final version.

i think the visual aspect of the character does play a big part in the role for a superhero... that's why i prefer the superheroes to visually stand out, not only in actions, but in look as well. I was too young for the debate of Batman 89, but i do remember the backlash that Tim Burton got for making a complete and total re-haul of the suit.

now, see, i am like kurosawa, in the aspect that i prefer the traditional look of Superman (trunks included) over the MoS suit, but not like kurosawa, in the aspect that I do think Superman can be done in a visually successful way with the trunks being taken away. i for one liked the old Ultimate Superman look that was made in 2003 (neckline excluded, though)
trunks alone do not make Superman... the color of the trunks, though do help, and when it comes to Superman, that's what my point is all about

im not saying that it's not faithful or takes away from the lore of Robocop... im saying that the lack of the visual two-tone color takes away how Robocop makes himself different from other cybernetic film franchises. in a crowd of riot gear police wearing all black, i wouldnt recognize Robocop at all... the silver singles him out, and that's what i want to see. Just like Superman in Metropolis, Robocop stands for something in Detroit, and he has abilities other police officers dont have. as a Robocop fan, i would like to see him be singled out visually to help show the differences of between him and a regular police officer. also in doing so, it also creates the subconscious idea that he is, indeed, not like everyone else, and truly is different.

if this is indeed the case, then great :) im glad they're going in a completely different route visually wise... again, IF this is indeed true
