RoboCop Reboot - Part 3

The director is just doing his job... it is the studio you should have a problem with.

Because the original was. Too many people think that if it isn't as bloody and have cursing it will fail.

As unfair as it sounds, we've already seen one insanely satirical r-rated, ultra violent paul verhoeven film get rebooted into a soft, lame, too serious mess AND we've seen a pg-13 robocop fall flat on its face already, so these guys have a heck of a lot to prove already. But that's what happens when you remake a well liked film, especially one so specific in it's awesome ways. We'll see.

Take away the blood and cursing.. Would you hate verhoevens robocop?

And this does not have a elevator through the earth so ditch the recall crap..

I'm a guy who loves gore and cursing and really want more r rated movies I hate the wateredown action we have gotten..

But if die hard 4 can pull off taking an r rated franchise and still being cool (IMO) than this can too.

I still think the whole man/machine/controlled part of robocop is what I love. And replacing Weller is ther true task this movie has not the damn rating.

Dredd was a damn good RoboCop style film and it bombed. Maybe the RoboCop name might help this film but I'm not sure.

Take away the violence from the first robocop and it's not the same film at all. That movie's not barely R-rated, heck the darn thing was rated x at one point and it may not have an elevator in the earth but it has a robocop who's right hand is exposed because somehow it shows him being more human than his exposed chin, which i find more annoying, and a suit that looks more batman than robocop. History has not been kind to followups to verhoeven work. (basic instinct 2, robocop sequels, starship troopers sequels, total recall remake) so these guys have got a lot to prove. Plus I just think robocop is a weird choice for a remake if you want to make huge amounts of dollars, so this whole project and the choices they've made just seem off. I want it to be good. I want to be surprised in the end, and I'm not the type to think most things should be ultra violent. But if you're remaking something from my youth that I love and is ultra violent like terminator, alien, predator, and robocop, then you better give me a similar attitude or you're just a cheap soft imitator, and those others already went through that. That's one thing I think the new evil dead did well. It did a lot of it's own things, but it was still brutal in a evil dead way.

Robocop 2 kicks Robocop's 1 ass like it stole it's lunch money Verhoeven was an ok director his action scenes were way over the top. People who keep comparing it to the original are looking through nostalgic goggles Remakes aren't all bad and just like ancient folklore the stories have to be retold for the next generation. I wanna see another Robocop because of the new film technology.

I think they've been trolling us all along.

There is no Robocop or Mad Max!

Just wondering, who said there would be?

Jose Padilha has stated the first trailer would be shown with Elysium, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got no trailer this week.

I seriously doubt Columbia and MGM are going to advertise this film well. Just a feeling I got.

Weird. I don't remember hearing that. At Comic-Con a Sony rep said at the press conference that they don't have a time frame when they'll release the trailer yet.

This is one of the few places that I come to for news on this flick. Other sites (cough the one in Texas) seem to be all but ignoring this movie.

I have wildly seesawed in my opinion of this remake, but I'm beginning to find the almost lack of support from the studio worrying. If they are proud of the film why not promote it to us?

Yup Jose uttered the words "elysium" when asked when we will see the trailer. It is in a video I watched with my own eyes lol.

This Robo trailer is the ONLY reason I'm interested in Elysium. Honestly its the perfect movie to attach a trailer to, so I hope to god it is.

yup padiha did say the robocop trailer is attached to elysium.
i saw the interview as well. he even says "go watch elysium" haha

with all the years this spent in "development hell" you would think MGM would have released a trailer already

Ah I see. I tend not to listen to when directors talk about that stuff off the cuff unless they're the likes of Bay, Cameron, Singer, etc, etc. Did he say that at one of his Comic-Con interviews? Would be odd if he did

I have this feeling the studios are not going to start advertising this film until October or November which is a shame. A teaser trailer, an offical pic of RoboCop and a teaser poster would be perfect this month to start showcasing the film. Bummer.

Eh. I don't see them spending much marketing money with Oscar season rolling in. Not the right audience. And I'm pretty sure if there hadn't been so many hi-res set photo leaks we'd have gotten some official stills. Those did the job for them and free of charge

Yep. I seriously doubt Columbia Pictures and MGM will spend much prompting the film. It has a $100 - 120 million production budget. This film got pushed back to February, a month that is not known for having blockbuster films. I doubt there will be much spend on prompting this film. We'll probably get the same level of adversiting that a film like "Predators" got in 2010 - two basic trailers, a few production stills, a standard poster or two and a few commericals. The basic package which probably will not roll out until the fall or so.

Imagine he went around like this! :funny:

In all of the set photos where Newbocop is holding his gun, he's holding it in his human hand.

On it's face, the human hand is a deeply stupid idea--but when you decide that this is the hand he's going to shoot with, suddenly you've really lost me. Even if I accept that for some reason it makes sense to give him a human hand (it doesn't; you don't build a zillion dollar cyborg and then draw a fleshy pink target on it that says "Please, hit this with a hammer to completely ruin me"), why would he shoot with it?

His other hand is a computer assisted machine. It would, by consequence, be several orders of magnitude more precise and even better able to account for kickback (maybe his gun is a lame taser and has no kickback, I don't know). It's absurd that he would shoot with the craphand.

I've honestly been wondering about this movie. I catch news in this thread, but I don't hear much else.

Is Robocop still going to have the spike in his hand to connect with computers? Just wondering how they're going to pull off that feature. Wire-less, maybe?
