I'm not reading any of the reviews or claims of reviews about the movie yet. Too many movies get astroturfed with fake positive or promoted positive reviews. I'll wait for an actual consensus.

Depending on how good the reviews and audience reactions are I may go see it in the theater.

Has Peter Weller seen it yet?

doubt it. he was asked about it when he was talking about the original movie, and he said "i could really give a sh**!"
that's almost a direct quote. but he did wish them luck at least.

Basing wether or not to go see a movie on reviews is not a good option. If you have interest in it, just go see it and form your own opinion. If you have no interest in it, then just don't!

You may love a film other people outright hate, you may HATE a film other people outright love. Too many people rely on reviews and other peoples opinions nowadays and its one of the downfalls of our society. Especially as far as entertainment and creativity is concerned.

Downfall of society? :funny: Turn the alarmist attitude down a hair.

I'm now looking forward to this. I saw the original back in 1988 when I was only 7. Man Murphy's death scene haunted me. It's my favorite film and holds up for me every time I watch it. I'm curious if anyone on here saw the original for the first time recently. Did it come across cheesy? Did the stop motion bother you? Just curious. Hoping this remake entertains me.

Watched the original the other night, still amazing and still one of my favourite movies ever.

Loving the new one getting good reviews though, hopefully this encourages a lot of people to go and see because a new Robocop franchise would be great. Lets face it now they have the 1st movie out the way it wouldnt be hard to improve on Robocop 2 (which I actually like) and especially Robocop 3.

Slightly becoming more hyped. RoboCop might just be one of those reboots that don't fail like other reboots.

I just wonder how the reviews from the UK and US go. UK critics tend to be more lenient than the US ones on this type of movie.

Eh, won't really matter, I think this will end up with a undeserved 40% on rotten tomatoes either way because of the issues discussed earlier in the thread. They will compare it to the original and not see the new film as a stand alone piece.

I think Ameircans will be the harshest with the movie and with little to no reason other than being fueled by some misguided sense of nostalgia.

yup. 87 robocop is a sci-fi action classic. but it's not a sacred cow.
the character naturally lends itself to being retold and expanded upon.

I said one of the downfalls lol. amidst the thousands, its not so bad but its true. I was trying to make a point lol. :whatever:

Yeah, reading film criticism doesn't lead to the downfall of civilization. That's ridiculous.

I'm going to see it. The difference is whether it's good enough to see in the theater or rent on Netflix.

I remember watching some RoboCop rants on Youtube, and people swear that it'll be bad. The nostalgia is still strong to this day.

Just post one of the negative comments from local forum

In comparison to the original, RoboCop (2014) is a downgrade in all aspect but one i.e. CGI.

The original has heart to it, which was subtly delivered but one with a powerful effect that connects us to feel Murphy's anger, frustration, vengeance, and etc. I'm sure most of us, if not all of us, rooted for and probably even cheered for RoboCop, in the original, when he took down the criminals responsible for his state i.e. shootout in the petrol station, fight in the club, shutting down of operation in the drug house, arresting of Clarence Boddicker, attempt arrest on d*** Jones, fight with ED-209, etc. In fact, even the enemies and criminals in the original movie expressed certain level of terror. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about this new reboot.

Personally, this movie worth watching if you have nothing else to do but there's nothing going for it, to make the pendulum swing to its side, from the original.

p/s: Samuel L. Jackson's character is just so laugh.gif

Well, we see that most negative comments come out from comparing the remake with the original (or the usual remake sucks group)

LOL his review was 90% a review about the original, where's his review of the new one?

True, I have yet to see one legit negative review about you know, the actual movie, not "It sucks because it is not the original"

I have no nostalgia regarding the first films, and i think this looks quite good. At first I wasn't interested but then I saw an extended trailer in the theater today and I'm interested in it now.

And that raises no red flags for you? Not one person has a genuine dislike of the movie for any reason? Even the best movies made get negative reviews.
