It would be nice if the naysayers would come back and say "hey guys, I really underestimated this thing" but who knows if it will happen. My prediction was 1.2 billion; we'll see where it lands

the difference between this and SM3 (which also opened big) is WOM for this movie is amazing and WOM absolutely killed SM3 (relatively speaking).

And they'll have missed the point completely yet again. No way TA could have got this huge if it hadn't been for the build up of the 5 previous films. People really only know who Superman & Batman are as characters. Even Wonder Woman I'd argue is primarily known just for her look and not what kind of personality or character she is. Same might also go for Flash(but to a much lesser extent). People have a clue about GL now but they ain't happy about him after that last movie. Nobody knows Martian Manhunter and pretty much the same for Aquaman. Without a build up, the JL movie just won't be able to reach it's potential.

Probably like Wonder Woman, a superhero movie under sword sandal guise (ok will somebody in WB damn the Clash of Titans franchise) or Martian Manhunter, superhero X-files.


GL was WB attempt to deviate from Nolan's formula and it failed miserably.

We just went from an estimate of 60M to 80M in 36 hours!

I don't know why Warner is so obsessed with JL as if it was the only team they had. They could have lessened the impact of The Avengers years ago by getting out something like Teen Titans or Legion of Super-heroes. Not that it would be the same thing but Legion especially is made for a blockbuster scope.

I'm with you, I think Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman being in the same film is enough to bring in the big bucks as longs as it's "good".

Wow, Nikki did the same thing she did with HG. She kept predicting really low, then when the actual numbers were coming in the estimates kept going up.

Just to let you guys know the initial numbers 65-67 to 80.1M is the difference between basically IM2 sales with 3D boost and TDK numbers with 3D boost.

Everyone on BOT is conceding that Avengers will likely be highest grossing film of the year. (Well unless we see even more Amazing numbers from the Hobbit).

The thing with WW is that other than her image, nobody has any clue who the hell she is. People know who Superman & Batman are even if you took their costumes out of the picture and just had to descibe them from a character/personality stand point. Supes is a boy scout and Batman's a brooding loner. But WW? Not a clue.

After my time wasted anticipating X3 it's nice to have participated in the build up to a team film that respects ALL it's members and is successful with critics, fans and at the box office. Amazing job! It's also a nice accolade to have the opening weekend record. Now watch them legs kick on for $500m final domestic gross. Noone has any excuse to watch Battleship in the cinema!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Showing us who these characters were in their independent films allowed Whedon to just tell the story of how these folks come together and interact.

I agree with everyone else that the Hulk/Banner really shines in this movie. But I loved how they took what was done with Norton and TIH, and basically expounded upon it. They didn't rewrite the character, they just went deeper.

I put it to you now. The Hobbit will outgross Potter in the UK if its good. It basically has $100M from the UK alone if Jackson pulls it off.
