Battleship is going to be a flop in the US. Nobody's going to care about it with it sandwiched between The Avengers, Dark Shadows, and Men in Black 3.

At one show at my theater during the midnights, the audience didn't respond to the battleship trailer, the only one that got no response, in another theater, it was the only one that got booed.

Exactly. I go to the movies a lot (once to three times a week) and ALWAYS - not even discounting once - the audience boo'd it in some way either verbally or by audibly saying "that looks dumb." Battleship, as said, in the states is the new 'Speed Racer' or hopefully lower. :woot: So 'SR' will no longer be seen as the millenia flop.

Guys he's being sarcastic about Battleship. lol

I admit to having been a skeptic regarding the possibility of a $200 million OW, but the numbers are shaping up. Some posters on the boxoffice.com forums think that Disney has been intentionally low-balling the early estimates, hedging their bets until the actuals become available the next morning. So Friday went from $65-67M estimated to an $80M final. The Saturday final could conceivably be $5-$10M over the estimate.

Who knows about Sunday? But I expect the Marvel/Disney folks will be popping the corks and toasting their good fortune Sunday night, if they haven't already done so.

It's clear that some of you are being driven by fanboy sentimentality and are seriously underestimating Battleship. It advertises a spectacle just like TA, and the GA don't really care about quality and just want to be entertained. I feel like it's going to stop TA on it's tracks. :csad:

I made some rounds locally and Avengers is selling out huge theatre showings on Saturday that I've never seen sold out before. That is a REALLY REALLY good sign. Still going strong.

That's one party i'd LOVE to attend! :yay:

The guy on Boxoffice forums just said the low end for today would be 70 million. Wow. He's more trustworthy than Nikki Finke.

The Avengers has turned into The Creature That Ate The Megaplex where I live. Every show sold out again today. People were lined up out the doors of the place. My bro insisted on seeing it in IMAX today (I had to be dragged along :word:) and it was as crowded as yesterday. As we left an armored car pulled up outside to collect the receipts, which gives you an idea of how much the theater raked in.

$60m on Saturday early PM estimates.

Wonder if it can make $185 million weekend. Or more?

At this point 185m is just the conservative figure. 200m and above is what I'm gunning for. :oldrazz:

Yeah. No one cares about Battleship. I think it's gonna bomb.
No one is taking the concept seriously.

This guy was spot on about the Friday numbers. Here it's what he had to say about Saturday:

"From brief read I've done a lot seem to think 70m today would be low end well that would be about right 68-70 would more than likely be the at least what its going to do and could easily go beyond . Be interested to see what the next update says, sure there will be one soon."

Avengers, SMASH!!!

With a 70m Saturday and assuming we get Spider-Man 3-ish drops which would mean a 60m Sunday, that would give us a 210m OW. :wow:

The thought of this making $200+ on opening weekend just blows my mind.

It's funny, this opening is blowing everyone away just like the Spider-Man opening did exactly 10 years ago

I knew TA would be big, but I didn't think it would be this big. :wow:

Deadline is saying $175 million estimated for the weekend which would still be the all time opening.

I was very skeptical about the movie being good before seen it a little more than a week ago. After I've seen it, all the doubts were gone and I could see this getting insanely huge as it's getting now. :woot:

Friday should be above $60m without midnights so Saturday could easily be revised up to $70m IMO.

Yes, as seems to be the norm now, Nikki just increased from 60M to 67-70M. I wouldn't doubt if it goes up again. This thing is incredible.

Not only is 200M in play, but I think Avengers has an even better shot now of being no. 1 for 3 consecutive weeks.

Their own figures are $80m Friday & $60m Saturday so that leaves only $35m for Sunday. Maybe they just haven't done a revised OW prediction yet.
