in terms of Sports ,
We do have the olympics coming up .
I dont know if it makes a difference for TDKR,
But, I mention because I believe it is aroud the same time .
You're right.

The Olympics start on July 27, a week after TDKR.

A Captain America movie would've done so much better (at least domestically) around this time. :woot:

Avengers should reach $400 million easily before its third weekend.

I'd say $550 is a certainty at this point. $600 million maybe?

Domestically, I don't think it'll do $600 mill. I think it'll hover around $550-$570, when it's all said and done.

Would be that be the FASTEST to get to 400 million ?
Not that it has to be, just curious.

I think we will get a better idea after Memorial Day. But definitely around $550 million.

It depends how you define "this kind of money". HP7.2 was the clear winner of last year but TF3 and POTC4 both passed $1 billion WW.

well you see just like that I was mistaken. I thought there was only one maybe two movies a year that crossed the Billion mark. Ah well I'm just very happy this movie has done so well and I wish both Spidey and Bat's all the best. But I can't see either of those passing Avengers.

Perhaps Marvel will make another big advertising push for the Memorial Day weekend. If enough people are turned off by Battle***** and MIB3, The Avengers can lure them back for a second (or third, or fourth) viewing.

Wouldn't surprise me. I mean the movie made $103 million its second weekend and the competition this month mostly looks horrendous.

I still think MIB III might surprise creatively if not financially.

It's going to be fastest to every milestone it reaches with some gas in the tank (I guess up to $550). When it starts limping it might get overtaken by Titanic and Avatar.

It's hard to compare to Avatar, because Avengers, like most post convert 3D films got the majority of it's 3D boost up front. Avatar was one of those movies where people were saying "you have to see this in 3D". Avengers as great as it was, you don't need to see it in 3D.

Yeah, pretty much.

TDKR is still around the bend, but it's going to have to be really amazing to come close to this movie.
Even if it is, there are so many things going against it that will prevent it from making more than Avengers.

TA made $8,477,854 on Tuesday and in the process, leapfrogged Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 2 and The Hunger Games! It currently stands at #13 on the All time Domestic Box Office with $389,473,290.

At the risk of sounding like a sissy...

Seeing that marvel-thank you-for the fans video...seeing all those fans around the world...

I believed in this movie right from the beginning, knew Wheddon would be the right man for the job,and i knew this movie would be a success ( though i've never expect it to be THIS succesfull!)

Well...seeing that video kinda made me choked up a bit!

We've come a loong way, baby!:woot:
You are a big sissy!!!
but kidding so am I ;-) it choked me up also. This movie and it's effect on people has been amazing!

Hahaha:woot:

Man..i remember being so excited about this movie, thinking that less than ten years ago, if somebody would have told me that an Avengers movie would be made, i would laugh in their faces!

And now here we are!

That said, as excited i was about this movie, i avoided the Avengers board for a looong time. Not because of spoilers...but the negative attitude of some fans. And me being an old fart, i just don't have the energy to argue on message boards like i used to. That's a young man's game!

All the negative comments...

To probably the most ridiculous attempt at put down i've ever read:

'me no wantz group moviez...me want solo filmz LuLz!11!'

So...like i said earlier..we've come a loong way, baby!:woot:

I'm not a big Cameron fan, but Titanic deserved it's success, imo. Cheesy dialogue aside, it was a grand, old-fashioned, sweeping epic made with new-fashioned technology that was an extremely emotional journey, and it made true movie stars out of its talented leads. And it was about a powerful, infamous true story in our history to boot. It's no mystery to me how it was able to resonate with audiences of all ages/demographics.

Avatar's success, on the other hand, still kinda baffles me, tbh. Technological wonder aside, I did not find the story OR lead characters to hit any of those "emotional involvement" buttons that Titanic did at all.
Agreed on both movies. I've heard some claim that Titanic made money just because teenaged girls were buying tickets. The audience for Titanic included every demographic there is. I loved it as a history buff/Titanic geek. Cameron paid attention to real-life details for Titanic and that impressed me.

Definitely possible. Battleship has not been tracking well at all. Let's face it, Taylor Kitsch has not has the best movies help his star value. And despite being much better, he may end up like another Alex pettyfer. Battlesship is tracking for 47 million so avengers could beat it out.

If anything else, MIB 3 may fair better because of Will Smith.its tracking for 90 million, so I have my doubts about Avengers beating it out.

Maybe. It'll get close. 1.4B is the low end at this point.

I believe it gets to 1.5 billion with Japan giving it that final push. I believe we can expect at least 30-40 mil from Japan, right? I have no idea...
