The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

Angel plummeted when they introduced the whole Cordelia is pregnant by Angels' son story line. The show never truly recovered, although the last season with Spike and Illyria was a good way to go.

Season 4 had an amazing stretch of episodes, but was the overall weakest season. I liked the idea of the Jasmine plotline, but they made her too evil for me to buy her as doing any kind of good. She needed to be more sweet and innocent (not laughing as she absorbs people). That said, the stretch where they free Angelus and bring in Faith to get him back...one of the best stretched of episodes the show ever had.

Angel S4 was probably their tightest season from a storytelling standpoint, imo. Despite that, it's my least-favorite just because it was SO dark, and too much of that stuff is so uncomfortable to watch, lol.

I feel like the weakest season of that show was easily the first.

Just FYI, Avengers only needs $94,365,303 to pass Titanic. Anyone think it can do it?

Angel season 4 gets alot of unwarranted hate. The season is amazingly electric and has some great character arcs(Fred in particular I think) but because of the Cordelia storyline everyone hates on it. I think it could've been done better but the storyline wasn't completely without its pluses. The ending of Players was so great "Cordy's been a bad bad girl". and Inside Out writen and directed by Spartacus creator Steven Deknight is brilliant.

It probably depends on how long TA can stay in theaters at this point. Ticket sales are tailing off weekly because of new competition and it's bleeding screens. That will only accelerate as films like ASM come along. I wish it could beat Titanic, but I don't believe that it will without an IMAX/3D re-release at the close of summer.

Titanic with rerelease without its own rerelease I don't think so. But just beating Titanic's original run is crazy!

Cameron rereleasing Titantic had nothing to do with the 100 year anniversary, he did it because he knew Avengers would be chasing his record :o

I like Angel 4, although you do get the feeling they're making it up as they go along... which apparently they were thanks to Charisma's pregnancy.

But it's Citizen Kane compared with Buffy 7. Kennedy, the potentials, Buffy's endless, boring speechifying, sidelining the Scoobies in favor of a bunch of characters no one cares about, those two potentials with the most pathetic English accents I've ever heard. It's the worst season of Buffy BY A MILE.

At least season one had a cheap, b-movie fun to it.

Aaarrgghh! Nooooooooo! I'd managed to block that entire season from my mind! Although Eve from S5 Angel manages to trump Kennedy in the dreadful Whedonverse character stakes.

I don't mind Eve. She's no Lilah, admittedly, but the season is so all-time great that she doesn't bother me. Plus her boyfriend is cool. =)

Haha, he will rerelease it every time an Avengers film comes out from now on.

With both Prometheus and Madagascar 3 out this weekend, it really put a toll on Saturday viewings and stole a lot of 3D screens for Avengers.

Still, Avengers will be at $590 million by end of June.

It won't break $600 million til near end of July or perhaps beginning of August.

Will likely crawl to make $605-$608 million before it's done in the movie theaters.

The more interesting story here imo is the foreign box office. Total is up to $824 M. I'm really hoping Avengers can milk another 20-25 M out of the current territories in anticipation for Japan, which would almost guarantee an Avengers victory over Potter for the #3 international spot.

Avengers looks to be heading for roughly $1.525 Billion.

Japan is hard to predict, none of the previous movies did great there but this has the spectacle/wow factor.

^^^

As brought up in the 20212 BO thread japan is not quite the place for superhero films to make money. They don't do nearly as well in japan as in most other territories.

But they love Spider-Man so if he was in the movie, it would be like $50 million at least.

I say anywhere between 40 million and 120 million in Japan. IOW i have no freaking idea. Anyone know how its being marketed there? Saw some character posters and that trailer but curious about the hype at present. Dont think the other Marvel movies did very well in Japan, but TA is such a woldwide phenomenon so...

This argument was used to predict that Avengers would have trouble breaking $500 M foreign. I think the whole "X country doesn't like superhero movies" is out the window with this film. Avengers is not just a "Superhero film". It's performed in every market like a top shelf Summer Tent Pole, and I doubt that Japan will be any different.

Avengers has beaten or matched Potter in every market except for Western Europe, and has beaten Potter in every major Asian Market. I might be setting myself up for failure here, but $150 M in Japan isn't entirely out of the question given Potter's $125 M, and given how Avengers has performed in comparison to Potter in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

I see the floor for Avengers being $85 M in Japan, and the ceiling being $150 M. At the very least, Avengers will break $1.5 B WW, and possibly $1.6 B, if Japan holds to formula.

oops nm.

I know they're distinct markets, but TA has done very well in South Korea, so maybe thats a good sign for Japan. That said, the IM movies did much better in Korea than they did in Japan, so who knows.

Avengers has outperformed Potter in every major Asian territory (and actually, in nearly every non-European territory.) Potter made $125 M in Japan. There's no way Avengers is doing less than $100 M in Japan.

Iron Man is probably the second most loved superhero character in Japan..
