The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

I noticed John Carter is out in stores but it is still placing in the weekly box office despite that. So, when Avengers comes out on DVD BR around September, it should be past 600 and inching toward 650. Planning to see TA another time with my dad for Fathers Day.

So my last prediction was 620 to 625 million in this run. if the Movie is re-released in august with an extra hour of footage I will say that it will overtake Titanic but fall short of Avatar. The dailys are now doing better than TDK even on the weekdays. TDK had roughly 40 million earned from this day of its release to the end of its run so without a re-release TA was on pace to finish at about 623 and has held steady at that pace for several weeks now... assuming a re-release should easily net another 40 to 50 million from fanboys I think it would easily surpass the titanic numbers (which has earned nearly 58 million in its re-release with far less material added)

Wait Wait...wha? :wow:

Are they really talking about doing a re-release with an extra hour of unseen footage?

LOL, when we hear something more concrete, maybe I will believe it.

I highly doubt there will be an august re-release. They're gonna shift all their focus to home video soon enough so they're gonna want people to miss the avengers at least a bit.

I don't think we ever will hear anything concrete - since it 100% contradicts what Whedon said in interviews: that the theatrical cut is his director's cut, and the theatrical will be the only version.

But if Disney wants to put a different version out, they will. The studio gets the final say, not the director. I'm not saying that it will happen, mind you, just pointing out that the studio has the power to do whatever it wants with the film.

Agreed that Disney will put it out if they want to, regardless of Whedon's stance.

But Whedon is clearly against doing it, and has said as much, and that is the only concrete opinion from anyone we have had so far.

Plus, these rumours seem to be based on the Whedon quote about how the first cut was 3 hours - yet as we all know (or all of us except the guy who started this rumour) rough cuts are always significantly longer, and much of the extra length is just baggy, less tightly edited scenes.

So, I suppose my point is I don't see this happening. Although I wish it would.

Sinister, shadowy mouse-shaped figure: "Oh boy! Here, Joss. Look at this huge stack of cash money. Isn't that swell? You want it? You want more? You can have all you want. Just get us a director's cut by August...or else! Haha!"

Joss: "Oh Jesus the ****ing mouse is real? It ****ing TALKS?!? I'll do it, I'll do anything! Just don't let it get me!"

I don't know about you guys but I'm not interested in a release of a "director's cut". The box office numbers wouldn't be accurate as it becomes another movie once that edit is done. I say re-release the original later in the year around November/December. I'm fine with a different cut coming out on bluray/dvd though.

How The Avengers Director's Cut rumour came to be. There's reports all over the place that a Director's Cut of The Avengers will be released in the cinema in August. This actually started off as mere speculation at ComicBook.com three days ago. It got picked up elsewhere as a "rumour" and things got out of hand accordingly. It led to the slightly ludicrous situation where a Hollywood "source" is reported as saying that they had heard the rumour too. This, of course, was seen in some quarters that the rumour was true and now more column inches are being devoted to the story.

Long-time readers will remember the same sort of thing happened with reports that Priyanka Chopra was going to be Wonder Woman.

And from an interview with Joss back in May:

On that kind of note, were there any scenes that you shot that you ended up having to cut due to story and pacing, but really wanted to keep in?

Yeah, the first cut was quite long. And you'll see in the DVD extras there was times when I really wanted to spend time with some of the ancillary characters, who are more human to sort of give context to everything that's happening. But, ultimately, fans were like, "Yeah, what we'd like to see is THE AVENGERS, SO WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHOW THAT INSTEAD?" [laughs] And so there's a lot of good work on the floor, but there isn't anything on the floor that I feel we gutted the movie.

So this is the director's cut.

Yes. You know what, and someday this may bite me and I may not be able to accomplish it, but it is always my intent to put the director's cut in theaters. I don't like to have different versions of a story, it kind of tweaks me. I like to know this is the story, this is it.

I won't think he would mind now though on the re release.Besides it's making tons of money :yay: My god,I still have people talking to me about seeing this movie. I never knew it would have this effect. Ok,I'm dreaming. Damn y Dreaming Celestial :argh:

I'm not going to say this won't happen yet, because in all honesty why wouldn't Disney want to milk this for all it's worth, especially in the wake of John Carter?

If Whedon is on board with it, that's another story. Hopefully they'd get his blessing before anything concrete.

I don't think re-releasing it would hurt DVD/blu-ray sales either. People want this movie, it's going to be the no 1 movie of the year regardless, and it will be the no 1 blu-ray of the year as well.

I don't think the question is really weather it would be re-released, which I think it will at some point but weather it would be a an extended cut or not.

The denial on whedonesque means we should watch out for the official announcement any day now. That's how it usually goes. :p

Tony in the Ultimate universe is supposed to be worth $300 billion. I don't know about the 616 but I do know he has individual armors that cost more than what they reported as his net wealth.
