The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

I had a lot of cool comics from 1972 to 1977 that my Mom threw out one day... but in 1978, she took my collecting a bit more seriously , mostly because I started taking care of them, and I have all of my books from that point on...

BOM is saying The Avengers was down only 6.9% on last Friday and it leapfrogged MIB3 (which I saw today and it wasn't that bad, crap villain but the leads saved it. Great chemistry)

Yeah, MIB3 was pretty decent... much better than the second one...

And its a hit as well, its crossed $500m worldwide already. The only thing working against it is the inflated budget because of production issues. I'd love to see them try another one. Bring back Emma Thompson and make Tommy Lee Jones seem less bored and I can see it working.

Yeah & last Sunday Avengers went up. I think it's starting to get to a level where it can even out a little and keep a good level of cash rolling in.

The OLDEST comic I ever owned was from the original Captain America comics, issue 25. I got it while I was still at the Kubert school at a LCS for 20 bucks. It had the cover but, the binding was in bad shape.

I think the oldest comic I have is Journey into Mystery #85 with Loki's first appearance, along with some other JIMs.

You know what's better than the vindication as a comic fan that a movie and genre you love is doing well? It's when other friends or co-workers come up to you and talk about how much they really enjoyed the movie.

Yeah, it's like they think we actually had a hand in making the thing in the first place. They know I'm a die hard and actually congratulated me. Of course I accepted their praise on behalf of Joss Whedon and fans everywhere!:cwink:

It's probably going to come in at $7M+ this weekend and that should put it at most just $2M shy of the $600M mark. With it doing 1/2 million dollar weekdays or better for this next set of weekdays it should pass $600M by Thursday.

This is where we're at in Australia.

An interesting picture and similar to the US rankings in terms of TA's position, isn't it? It's very safe to say that TA is now sitting at third, and may stop just short of Titanic when all's said and done. In fact, the showings are fairly strong only 8 weeks on, and the -59% reflects its duration, rather than near the start or six weeks in like so many other films. Naturally, Avatar remains undisputed; in fact its numbers are actually unparalleled for a country inhabiting about 21 million people.

The detail for Prometheus's massive dropping is interesting to note as well.

Let's see where TDR (and possibly TASM) fall into the list before the end of the year.

If it loses less than 25% of the previous Monday & Tuesday, it could hit 600 Million Tuesday night...

I can't wait for this movie to be release in Japan. I wonder how much it will earn?

It'll probably need about $35m in Japan to get to $1.5b overall. And what a landmark that would be...

These numbers look damn impressive. I never expected such a success. Voted for 800 million but I'm glad that I was wrong.

i noticed TA leapfrogged MIB3 this past weekend and is within 1 million from the top 5. Do you think TA can leapfrog, Rock of Ages, Thats My Boy and Snow White Huntsman (THOR lol) and possible even Abraham Lincoln? Except for TED, the next week's new releases dont look all that exciting and Brave should hold on to 1 for two weeks.

I predict TA will place around 6-7 next week :D

I also noticed TA is losing theatres in droves, but it is miraculously still holding up with solid numbers. Is there a chance for TA to gain back theatres? Cant the cinemas see that TA is the gift that keeps on giving? the main reason it is dropping is because they are giving up theatres.

I certainly hope they re-release TA (extended cut?) in IMAX when all this summer movie craze dies down in September. That should make a strong case to dethrone Titanic re-release.
