You know what's better than the vindication as a comic fan that a movie and genre you love is doing well? It's when other friends or co-workers come up to you and talk about how much they really enjoyed the movie.

My vindication was the fact that both my Dad and even my Mom enjoyed it. She loves Chris Evans now and wished she saw Captain America first.

So proud that Joss Whedon is second to James Cameron in domestic box office. What a sweet victory after getting screwed over and over again by the industry.

It's hilarious how now that TA is a smash hit, revisionist history has set in and Whedon is suddenly the only director with a vision that stood up to the big bad Marvel Studios, as opposed to what's REALLY being said before about how he's just another yes man hired cheaply.

I can't imagine what it must feel like if you were a kid and read this issue

and now know that the movie counterpart has made

$1,422,191,616

I mean, that is a huge number just to look at.

Amazing Thursday hold for The Avengers at $1,054,517.

Domestic total is now at $591,247,781.

At least another $5 for the weekend = $596 million by next Monday.

Yes I think it will fall in slightly closer to 6 million and it will go over 600 million by thurday or friday... Saturday at worse... The only bad news is Monday will likely be the first day under 1 million for the movie... that will be on its 52nd day... I dont think that happened to that freak Avatar till its 80th day...Lol I think Cameron just put 100 million of his own money into that movie... still dont understand what anyone saw in it

Great! I can feel it now, it's so close. The big 6 - 0 - 0!! :woot::word:

Cameronites, j/k!

The thing about Avatar though was that it had basically no competition around December '09. The closest one was just Sherlock Holmes.

Everything else was just "un-epic".

- Alvin and the Chipmunks
- Percy Jackson
- Tooth Fairy

It wasn't until March (3 months later) with Alice in Wonderland that basically slowed down Avatar.

The Avengers on the other hand has been going up against monsters after monsters this summer.

One can only imagined if The Avengers had been released in December or in July - two of the peak non-school/holiday months for movie releases.

I'll never have the original first Avengers comic but I do have all of volume one on disc.

thats a good point. Should TA2 be released in December? It has the chance to stay at the top unchallenged until May. Thats a whole FIVE MONTHS!!! :wow:

I can see it panning out like this
Week
1 210 (million)
2 150
3 90
4 70

5 55
6 40
7 25
8 20

9 15
10 10
11 7
12 5

13 3
14 2
15 1
16 0.5

17 0.5
18 0.25
19 0.15
20 0.10

for a grand total of 704.5 million domestic! WOW still falling short of Avater though :/

I know. I really thought Marvel was going to do that. It would have been better than that photoshop mess. But guess it would have meant we couldn't see RDJ's face.

I could have owned that comic back in the late 80's for a mere $125... :o

The success of this movie makes me proud to be an Avengers reader [and a comicbook fan in general] and makes me salivate at the prospect of what we're going to get in the future.

Seriously?

Details please!

You have to remember it was the late 80's, my local comic shop had a copy of this issue for 125 dollars
... and that was a lot of money back then... the Silver age Marvel comics only took off in price around 1990 or 91... I had a poor a copy of Uncanny X-Men #2 that I gave away for a drive home in 1983... believe it or not... because at the time, it might have been worth 10 bucks tops... nobody knew that back issue prices would skyrocket in the 90's... So to me, that Avenges #1, while it would've been nice to own, was a bit pricey to me...

How much would those 2 comics be worth now? And are there any old valuable comics you did keep?

The OLDEST comic I ever owned was from the original Captain America comics, issue 25. I got it while I was still at the Kubert school at a LCS for 20 bucks. It had the cover but, the binding was in bad shape.

Yeah THEN you also had jerks over-pricing badly graded comics or in the case of one guy I stopped going to, he'd wait about two weeks for a NEW comic book to mark it up a buck as a back issue.......yeah he went out of business. lol I DID however get a piece of Frank Miller art of Captain Marvel, a page from a marvel spotlight issue for 10 bucks from him.

I have Uncanny 13 but it's not in good condition :csad:

Also have originals from around 80something onwards, & copies of everything before that.

I can remember going into a Jewel and Osco food store and buying Giant-sized X-men #1 and cussing because nobody else had the book and that copy had the store's ink stamp on the cover! :(

Yeah I started buying my comics from a general store and they had a really annoying massive sticker on the front. Sometimes I got it off without too much damage and other times I completely destroyed the front cover.

Same here. I'd stop at 3 places, Jewel, and two Drug stores. The comic book shops didn't show up until the mid 80's

The Avengers number 1 would easily be worth in the tens of thousands and I believe the Uncanny X-men would be probably over 100 bucks...

I don't have a lot of comics from that timeframe anymore... but I do you own an Amazing Spide-Man number 1 to current..
All I am missing is an Amazing Fantasy 15 for a complete Spider-Man collection
