Yeah but Johns has hinted that it will be inspired by his Earth One series, which is a very early days story. I guess it's too early to say at this point.

He was hinting at the origins of this batman being inspired by Earth one, not the story of the next film.

Contact lenses.

Niceley done, but I just don't like the idea. Cowl-integrated lenses or nothing.

He did no such thing....THR ran an article suggesting that the movie may be based on Earth One and everyone read the headline and not the actual article.

"Hey guys, what if we ignore all those wonderful batman stories and base the movie batman on that one crappy story i once wrote? It has "earth One" on the cover and it's a "graphic novel" for serious readers and stuff.

Why? Because i'm the boss, that's why."

God damn DC. The company where Daniels and Finch are "superstar artists" but Paquette, Nguyen, Chiang, Cameron and Irving arent. The company that pushed away Mark Waid because of personal feuds but hired Rob Liefeld.

I maintain that the "oldness" of this Batman poses few problems, as the character itself is very old and goes through phases of maturity and rejuvenation. Batman was weary and embittered after the murder of Jason Todd, before being rejuvenated by the arrival of Tim Drake. It seems highly probable that this Milleresque Batman will be redeemed to some extent by friendship with Superman, and the appearance of a new Robin in the solo movie could continue that trajectory.

Nothing is lost, my friends.

Yeah I really wish I could just see the whole Batman story play out with the same actor from the origin (or at least early years) right through to retirement. A 20-year franchise. That's why I'm somewhat disappointed that they've gone for an older Batman.

And yes, I'd love to see a real teenage Robin. The Daredevil show had some scenes with a very young Matt learning to fight with Stick, and I didn't feel it was silly at all - so a 14 Year Old Robin for me would be great.
He could just provide support and use his small size and agility to run circles around the thugs, using gadgets to take them down while Batman doest most of the heavy lifting. It can work. The important thing is that he's supposed to be Batman's surrogate son and somehow it's not the same if he's a semi-independent 18 year old.

Seeing Dick go through Robin, Nightwing and eventually become Batman would be my dream for the movies. His duo with Damian is one of the best, most enjoyable reads in comics.

Truth, but everyone looks right past all of this because PANIC OMG

Fair enough - I read an article referring to it in my spare time at work, so I'll acknowledge that it may have been inaccurate.

That said, I still think the prequel idea - or at least extensive flashbacks - would be good. I hate that we're just jumping in to a story about a Batman who's been around for 20 years, without seeing all that history.

Yes! For the 10 years or so I've been thinking about this, I've though that Dick could start as just being trained in the bat-cave, then progressing to scout/lookout, backup, distraction, assistant etc for Batman, gradually getting a more active role as he grows and becomes more physically capable. Dark Victory did it well.

And to me, in "comic-book-world" a 14 year old kid who's been trained by a master martial artist is easily the match for the average untrained thug.

It really pisses me off that none of the Batman movies have really explored the father/son dynamic. It's such a HUGE part of what makes Batman great.

For the last time: at no point did Johns or anyone involved with the production suggest that Earth One (or anything else, for that matter) would be inspiration for The Batman. There is absolutely nothing about that comic that would translate to this version of Batman.

Hopefully they incorporate Earth One and TDKSA into one badass movie.

Another reason I want a Court of Owls movie. They could work that into an adaptation of that story, especially since the story kinda focuses on those two.

We don't know what's actually being jumped and what's coming up. WB is doing the right thing...there's no need to tell the same story over and over again #amazingspiderman

I too would love a Court of Owls movie, but I don't really expect it to happen.

Either way, I feel this movie should focus on Batman unraveling a mystery. I think using Hush as a template would work well: Batman uncovers a vast conspiracy that includes many of his greatest foes with one man pulling the strings... The Riddler (or whoever). This way we get a great detective story, plus we get to see Bats tango with the likes of Killer Croc, The Joker, Penguin, etc., without them being the sole focus.

This is certainly true.

Too true.

You can't have Joker and he not be the sole focus. You certainly can have Joker on a string. He's a show stealer. I guess I want the Court because of the themes it deals with and that it features Batman's allies. I feel like that's something we haven't really seen Batman work with allies, not in a way that's done well (it's only the Schumacher ones, and those were terrible). I also don't want to see Joker show up again. He's overexposed at this point.

I wonder which "old favorite" he is?

With Leto cast, you can bet he'll show up again.
