Batman's costume serves both aesthetic and functional purposes. Functionally, it's padded/armored to help protect Batman against trauma. Aesthetically, it maintains the illusion of a naturally strong monster - which serves to fuel criminals' superstitions and fears.

It's all pretty self-explanatory, really. No need to nod and wink at the audience like we're too stupid to figure it out.

Well the fact that the Suit stays perfectly "muscled" when he's out of the suit at least makes it seem obvious they are not trying to fool the viewer into thinking the suit is supposed to be really skin-tight like Superman's.

Although some commentators online have missed out on that and are making comments like they think the filmmakers are trying to fool them into thinking that is actually Afflecks physique.

And it works. If I saw him in the middle of the night I'd be freaked out too.

That's what I've been saying since the suit was revealed. Plus, having the suit be bigger than Bruce Wayne makes Bruce Wayne look different from Batman.

...

I hear what you're saying, but the MoS Superman suit was also introduced in a "muscled" manner in the scout ship. Then again, neither suit would look majestic if they were laying flat on a chair unless their owner is wearing them.

Either way - the Batsuit is awesome!!!

I will emit a thunderous groan if we are subjected to another boring scene telling us why Batman's costume looks like it does.

It was but it didn't match up to how it looked like when Clark wore it however. No midsection or bicep definition.

The Batman suit on display looks exactly like it does when Bruce wears it.

^Lol, the MOS suit display looks so pudgy compared to the Batsuit display.

Right here.. You nailed it.

I remember prior to Nolan's movies, there wasn't this compelling desire to have everything explained ..
But now?

I mean, the suit has friggin' bullet holes on it in the new pic with Zack..
That should be enough right there..
I hope that none on this under armor is verbally touched on what so ever..

Batman gets shot.. He gets up.. Grabs the bad guy and lifts his feet off of the ground.. The bad guy, scared.. Says "what are you ma...
Oh wait... We have seen that already too..

I think the suit is meant to be an extension and exaggeration of Affleck's actual physique. I'm sure the training scene in the trailer will also help serve the illusion.

I'm just wondering how he's getting into that thing in a jiffy... I did like how Nolan's was in its separate pieces hanging in the Batarmoire, so it looked like something Bruce could get on himself easily. The second version might've had a Lego-like instruction book for the legs at least though. :)

Maybe they'll have this suit split in half at belt, Bruce slide down a pole and kinda drop into the bottom half then the top half pops down onto him. :)

A blue suit with an yellow oval can definitely work. Maybe not with the suit they went with. But it can work.

One day. One day.

Maybe he will wear it in Justice League, to show his evolution into being a pure superhero.

As well as a mini trebuchet that flings jam into a piece of toast just as it springs up from the toaster

This is new to me. Which Morrison's work is this adapting?
I didn't see the whole video, but halfway in I still can't tell.
They just found a way to fascilitate Morrison's B&R. But so far they're really screwing up all the comics they're adapting. Bruce Timm needs to come back.

What's there to explain? Is there really needed an overt exposition for every visual element and something we can easily deduce ourselves?

Total agreement.
I'm also getting tired of how some insist everything needs to have a rational explanation in the name of realism.

They really do. Superman's shoulders are wide, but look much more natural, one can buy it that it is his actual, very muscled and cut physique. In comparison, ones on Batman look much more like shoulder pads, similarly to ones on American football jerseys, for example:

There's another sport that wears similar pads.

Whether it's put into detail in the film or not I picture the Batsuit being built somewhat similar to the Batman Begins suit just with some sort of fabric cover over instead of just a paint coating.

The first image released of the BvS gave me flashbacks to the Begins suit.

I doubt it is "supposed" to be so hefty and restrictive, but it really isn't important- ultimately, it gives precisely the right impression of a fabric costume with some additional protection built in. That is what the Batsuit was always meant to be.

Indeed. I just put the first example I could think of.

Exactly.

It's just the way it looks rounded at the bottom. It's most obvious here

I don't think a BIGGER/WIDER mouth hole would necessarily help, but I think a STRAIGHTER/SQUARER one would. Like this:

Just give a nicer, more angular look.
