Well, I think being directionless on the job front is a bit more problematic than being directionless about dates. Most people get by just fine being single, but it's a much bigger problem if you're stuck living at home barely able to save money, because you don't have the motivation to go for more than minimum wage jobs.
ETM - like Erz said, worthwhile things DO take work. Going back to school to be qualified for a higher paying job takes work, and you won't enjoy every second of it. And sometimes it will be a slog and it will be hard. (I was a biology major, I KNOW. Chemistry and physics were the bane of my life, and I had to take them for 2 friggin' years.) But ETM, it doesn't seem like you've ever had a long-term goal and stuck to it. That's the mark of true maturity - if you're able to tamp down your impulsive nature and stick to a goal, even if it's hard at that moment. That's how worthwhile things ever come anyone's way.
