The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread V

Why cant you see it getting the nod? Its still the best movie of the year and was reviewed very well. Minus the quibbles of a few fanboys it is still deserving!

Best movie of the year is subjective... and don't forget the Oscar bait movies are only starting to be released.

The Academy would rather shove the Oscar down Spielberg's throat for Lincoln, regardless of it's quality than give Nolan anything for a comic-book movie.

But hey, I hope I'm wrong.

Having seen the Master this last weekend I feel the actors were all exceptional and deserve acting nominations, but the movie does not. Great performances and a very weak script. And I have loved all of PTA's films until the Master. Left me cold and slightly bored. TDKR doesn't deserve the nom just as some backhanded compliment for TDK's omission from the awards, but because it deserves the recognition for it's own merits.

I agree with everything u said. I think the master is pretty good, but not as good as ptas other. I wanted more out of the material.

There were times the Master felt like a bad imitation of a Terence Malick film. The sequences with the sailors felt like edited scenes from Thin Red Line. Again it was the acting that salvaged the film for me. Philip Seymour Hoffman was electrifying. And damn can that boy sing. But the stuff with the 16 year old girl was just creepy and off putting.
But cannot wait for Argo, Atlas Rising, and Life of Pi. And of course Looper and Dredd. And TDKR on Bluray. TDKR is now firmly at the 7th place domestically. Now it's just a matter of where it will end up at the Worldwide Box Office.

It can still earn 20 to 25 mil. more overseas, that would help it to climb up to #7 position in the all time worldwide charts.

I think it will get to No. 7 on the worldwide chart... but it's done domestically.

No doubt about it.

The Oscars are a joke my friend, they've been a joke since 1977.

$19 Million to go and it makes the #6 spot Domestically.

Fingers crossed.

Hate to say this but, in the absence of Aurora shootings and Olympics, it would have made at least 50 mil. more domestically (IMO).

They have their moments. Good years and bad years.

If THE MASTER wins Best Picture, this will be one of their good years.

Unfortunately, there are way more bad than good years. I don't know a single person who take them seriously any more.

2011 - Bad year (DRIVE was snubbed)

2010 - Good year (THE FIGHTER, INCEPTION & WINTER'S BONE were Nominated, Bale won for Dicky)

2009 - Good year (DISTRICT 9, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS & A SERIOUS MAN were Nominated, HURT LOCKER won)

2008 - Bad year (TDK was snubbed, as was Rourke, Aronofsky and THE WRESTLER)

2007 - Good year (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN won, THERE WILL BE BLOOD was Nominated & Daniel won)

I saw The Master today.
It certainly has a chance, what is its most likekly competition at this point ?

The Master ain't winning the Best Picture Oscar.

Hollywood loves to point the finger and mock everyone... except themselves. A film about a Scientology-like cult in their beginnings? Nope. The performances are its best chance.

I'd say LIFE OF PI & ARGO. But its really anyone's guess at this point, unlike last year where it came down to THE ARTIST & HUGO.

I disagree and THE MASTER ain't about scientology.
