I don't think I've read anyone on either side of the tdkr fence, complain about the first fight. I've always appreciated the fact that Nolan has tried to keep cgi out of the bat films as much as possible. The Bane vs Batman fight showed you could really keep an audience on the edge of their seat minus all the sparklers.
I prefer the set-up in the comics, but I can’t get enough of the movie scene. Bane is the embodiment of our worst nightmare. The one thing we simply cannot beat at that point in time no matter how hard we try. You can't run, hide or do anything to stop it. Symbolically Bane is standing in the catwalk, unmoving. Batman doesn’t get past but is instead sent to the lower section. And it goes further downhill from there.

Yeah, that single closeup shot of Bane just waiting for Batman on the catwalk and it's instantly the first time in the history of Batman cinema that you are actually scared for Bruce in a physical confrontation.

Especially when Bane grabs that goon's throat and tosses him aside like it's nothing in a previous scene.

I love both Bane/Batman fights myself. They're two different animals and they contrast each other so very well. The first fight was in the sewers with a much darker atmosphere and light where Bane was just this hulking beast that toyed around with Batman for a good 75% of the time while Batman desperately tried to use his gadgets on him with no prevail, finally being broken in the end while his precious armory is gratefully taken.

The second fight? While, yes, it could have been longer, but I view the shorter time with being about Batman finally at his game and just giving it to Bane, but also taking his shots wisely this time, and focusing more on trying to break that mask, knowing fully well that he will be in terrible pain without it. The moments before Talia's reveal were probably the best thing about it as Bane has been beaten physically and mentally as Bruce showed who truly was the better man between the two as Bane tries to retort by saying "I broke you."

Avengers is definetely deserving of best picture over all the BP options

I know you didn't like TDKR, but you're saying Avengers was also better than Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook?

That catwalk shot is one of my favourite shots of the year. The lighting, emotions from Bale in the cowl, the menacing back of Bane looming over everything. The water running down the sides, the rusty (much like Bruce) metal, it just created this grim atmosphere. Batman screaming in anger and frustration just makes it even better. And then to see the shot paralleled later in their final fight with Bruce now on top (also, notice how Bane has the dominance in the dark but once they fight in the light the fight belongs to Bruce) and calm, no longer yelling in frustration and reckless anger.

So true. The whole night/day thing is really reflective of how Bruce adapts and evolves. I think after he escapes the pit he adopts the light, rather than darkness and that becomes his new "ally". He's no longer trying beat Bane at his own game, instead changing the game on him.

You know, the more and more I look at this film the more and more I see this as the most Kubrick of Nolan films. The symbolism is so rich, even if it requires a few gaps in the narrative.

Not saying that Nolan is as great as Kubrick (nobody is as great as Kubrick, that guy made a movie that was completely against the company funding the movie. That is pure brilliance.) but just that it feels kind of like the most Kubrick Nolan film.

Batman still yells in the second fight. When he walks up the stairs of City Hall, he does let out a growl before he attacks.

I liked the growl in the second fight. Batman's yells and growls in the sewer were those of frustration and confusion.

At City Hall his growls were different. I love the moment they lock their fists and Batman holds his own, even striking Bane's mask.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Man....if I could sell my soul to get those two in a World's Finest...I so would.

We may not get Bale Bats, but hopefully whoever is the next Batman will be just as good a choice to match up with Cavill.

I'd like MOS to be a stand alone trilogy but it'd be fun to have a stand alone World's Finest film.

Hopefully I like the next guy to be Batman, though. If not, then I wouldn't even care if he is a good match up with Cavill tbh.

This is what I wanted....a stand alone series of Batman films, the same for Superman, and while a stand alone film for World's Finest, they should still use the respective actors that played as Batman and Superman just for iconic reasons and them being this generation of Bats and Supes.

Yes! Those were awesome IMO. :hrt:

There are just so many things to get from this film & its characters. The more I watch, the more I learn. The more entertaining THE DARK KNIGHT RISES gets.

I feel like The Dark Knight Rises, while entertaining of course, it's a different kind of entertaining. The Avengers is a huge spectacle of action and velocity. TDKR was an entertaining film in that it was an ending. It was somber, it was hopeful, but it was as an ending should be. My best comparison would be "Swan Song" for Supernatural that was just heart-wrenching and that's the kind of entertaining TDKR was. It was an ending unlike any other.

This is why I love the TDKR boards. In-depth growl analysis.

My favorite trailer

has some serious competition

^ You're a guy cut from the same cloth as me, although the TKDR Nokia trailer was my favorite. The MoS trailer #3 was equally impressive.

Both trailers hit the right notes in perfect fashion.

The Nokia trailer is indeed fantastic, but I only wish it wasn't some "exclusive" trailer. If I had to pick between the two, I'd pick the 3rd official trailer to TDKR, though. Funny how I brought up two 3rd official trailers, haha.

And indeed they hit the right notes for each. A somber tone for Batman(and that really hits the mark for Nokia's trailer as well as it was heavy on Bane's music with that trailer) and then something uplifting for Superman. I wonder how a trailer would be if Doomsday ever made it in a Superman film.

In some ways my favorite TDKR trailer might be the first teaser. It called back to BB and Ra's. It set in motion the idea of the trilogy coming full circle. It was amazing.

That shot of wet Batman backing away from Bane was mindblowing, one year before the film came out.

Everyone watch this and try to not get chills.
