The Xbox One - Part 7

well then yeah, the article should've mentioned Microsoft was funding them.

honestly, if microsft has so much money (definitely piles more than sony) why couldn't they have made a more powerful console AND kept with the Kinect priorities? instead of making it a tradeoff?

Even if they have more money, no company is going to want to release a product that bleeds loses upon loses all the time. It was an acceptable thing for the OG Xbox, I'm sure, because they were wanting to establish the brand, but now that they're established and actually made some profit in the 360 time period, they want to continue making profit.

And, honestly, no matter how much money you have, you still have to work with tech and engineers available at the time.

I had a Ps2 during the 6th gen and a had friends with Xboxes. I have to say, back then, the Xbox graphics were quite amazing to me. Although the Ps2 was able to keep up with the competition in terms of software, it was the underdog in terms of hardware. I always thought it was in the middle and the gamecube was the underdog.

From a sales point, the Xbox and the GC were really on the same level. The main difference is that MS lost money on each Xbox sold, whereas Nintendo was still making a profit on each system each at the $99 price cut.

I don't remember the prices of consoles 2 generations ago, back then I was young enough for family members to still buy me all that stuff, lol. but I think it was way more affordable than later cycles.

I don't think console prices really were relevant until the $600 price tag of the Ps3 was revealed. that was an atrocity.

The only times I've been amazed by graphics are with the original Playstation, when HD gaming took off and now super-advanced PCs. I really hope Windows 10 eventually allows me to play games while syncing with my Xbox profile and talking with Xbox buddies.

i'm pretty sure the n64 had a better gpu than ps1

so what's the deal with windows 10 on xbone? is it really gonna make gaming that much better on it?

I didn't have an N64. I think it was really just being able to play games in proper 3D like the original Tomb Raider.

I don't know. I was talking about being able to game on pc and have it all linked with XBox chat and achievements for eg. It depends how far they are taking this one product across all platforms thing. Chatting to and playing with the same friends and an 8 year old profile of games and when I've completed them are the things stopping me from playing at least all non-exclusive single player games on pc.

I have too many favourites to remember, was buying a new game every few days back then. But just a few:

Final Fantasy VII & VIII
Tekken 2 & 3
Tomb Raider 1 & 2
Resident Evil 1-3
Gran Turismo 1 & 2
Wipeout 2097
Total NBA 97
Die Hard Trilogy (one game)
Command & Conquer (much better on pc but I wasn't pc gaming at the time)
PES
Ridge Racer
Street fighter Alpha 3
Soul Blade
Formula 1

I read something about being able to play X1 through your internet browser. And PS4 games you'll be able to play through your TV so maybe people don't need the consoles themselves lol.

I played my PS1 a lot more than my PS2. I was in university and started working near the end of it but had cash from earlier jobs too. The rate of advancement of games didn't seem to be as quick on PS2. I really got back into it again after Gears of War the generation after. For 360 I have 500+ games but many of them were bought when they were old and now I've run out of space so need to sell! Already sold all my consoles and games prior to that.

Yeah could be interesting. I don't know if I'd really do it myself much.

Does anyone else think the youtube app on the X1 just plain sucks? Half the time, the videos wont even load, and it brings me back to the main menu. I then sitch off to another console with youtube, fire up the exact same video, and of course, it works with no problems.

I haven't had any issues, but I think all of YouTube sucks, save for the actual website. I cant stand the phone app or mobile site.

I was amazed by Ocarina of Time. Though that may have been more the unprecedented open world feel, and 3D cinematics than the graphics.

My jaw hit the floor when I played Sonic Adventure. Looks crude now, but at the time, holy hell. Those graphics were amazing. I still remember being wowed by games like Skies of Arcadia.

The improvements in graphics have been so incremental since the early 2000's, it's never really been very dramatic for me since. Though The Last of Us was quite impressive.

Hell, I think the website sucks.

I'm not really sure why it's become the accepted standard. If Google sucked that bad, we'd all be using Bing.

Probably because they got there first. I don't think people can take rivals seriously as the overall main primary video platform for the world even if they use them all the time. I think Google and Facebook have similar advantages.

I mean, honestly, what are the alternatives to YouTube? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Vimeo and Ustream, but neither of those have any apps that I can stream to my TV.

No, YouTube does what it's supposed to and does it well, they just don't have well designed apps. The site itself is fine.

The only thing I dislike about YouTube is that it feels the ads have increased a lot more from what I remember in the last year or so. I recall ads, but never as frequently as I get them now. But I can live with that pretty easily.

Is dailymotion popular?
