guys honestly chill out... some of these reviews are tragically stupid and ridiculous in their opinions. Others definitely have some points but those are even debatable.

Just watch it for yourself, again my reaction was the film had total magic .. It is certainly a hell of a lot better than other Superman films in the past and it's a triumph big time.

What are some of the criticisms that you find particularly stupid and ridiculous?

Where is Superman? The one I've known and loved for more than 50 years is nowhere to be found, replaced by a plastic, uncharismatic Superdude, who'd make a great fashion model, but is a horrid Man of Steel.

This review from RT prove that people cannot move on from the past and accept the modern age Superman.

I just looked at the RT homepage. The only thing I've discovered is that I may have to check out This Is The End.

I was always going to be seeing Man of Steel. :super:

...or that they just didn't like the movie. Which should be fine.

So I've read some more of the bad reviews and the consensus seems to be from many of them that it isn't the 'Superman we know'. I find it ironic that reviewers are suddenly the ones complaining about the sacredness of the Superman mythology whilst fans seem to be more open to the changes. It could be down to bad execution but it's a theme I'm reading.

Is it fair to say that Donner's Superman film casts such a large shadow, that the general audience (non comic book readers), simply can't understand or accept another interpretation of Superman other than what Christopher Reeve gave us?

Exactly. This is what we've been saying. It isn't all denial, haha.

Sure they can, if it's better. But I, personally, can't find anything noteworthy about this movie that is. Looks like I'm not alone.

There is no general audience yet for MOS though. This is only critics talking. Let's how the audience reacts after it is released and see if they are ready and willing to accept this interpretation.

At this point it doesnt matter if the critics are wrong(which im sure they are) but the damage has been done. I will definetely see it but i am worried a bit, after all the great trailers i was hoping for a epic superhero film but it looks like were just a getting another popcorn summer flick.

I really hope we get a "director's cut" edition.

If there are issues with the film then it's fine to point them out, but I do think having read some more of the reviews some critics opinions are being clouded by what they think Superman should be. I know it sounds like I'm changing my tune here but having read a couple more of the negative reviews there's a lot of 'supposed to be' type of analysis from some critics.

after the reviews ive read it appears this will be a download for me or ill wait to see it later on. i had a bad feeling this might happen. superman DID NOT need a total overhaul.

Ok you know what? The Donner films are pretty overrated and a lot of these critics need to get over it. Yes at the time the 2 films were spectacular, but let's be honest here, Superman 1&2 have not aged well at all. We're talking about a movie where Superman flies around the Earth so fast, it spins backwards and turns back time. A child can tell you in so many ways how that's wrong.

I'm not trying to insult those films, but i'm sick of see critics put those two films on a pedestal, like they're untouchable.

From my experience when you find a movie wanting you can't help but say "this is how it should have been..." Some people fill in those blanks with fan fiction stuff, others turn to comparable movies when they are available (like this one)

Looks like we've reached the acceptance phase. So I'm back. That and my early screening fell through.
I'm very much over the whole, "Not my Superman." thing. It's annoying. Just like Batman, there is more than one way to tell his story.
Nolan's Bats is my favorite version put to film, but guess what? It's done. Time for a new voice. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Just because it's not my favorite doesn't mean it can't be good.
Still looking forward to this. I don't let critics tell me what's good. It's still just an opinion. Yours is as valid as theirs. It's almost time to form your own.

TBH, I don't feel bad if the critics are too "married" to Donner for some fanboys

The Donner films have been nitpicked to death too much by fanboys with something to prove, so at least SOMEONE out there appreciate the films and don't complain endlessly about people spinning around the earth.

Just posting this for preparation:

I'll never forget a sports radio host just going off topic one time and talking about Batman 89 and saying this isn't how Batman is supposed to be! Where is the fun and the jokes etc... That's because he grew up on the Adam West Batman.

I haven't been reading the reviews but I have a feeling critics have a similar line of thinking. Reeve Superman is what they grew up on, that is how he is supposed to be and they are not willing to accept a more modern interpretation of the character.

I came out of MOS with this outlook: I not only still like STM and SR better but I think they are much better movies, and I'm not happy about it at all.
