The Dark Knight Rises Why I think Rises will be better than TDK

Rachel Dawes was the weak link in general, quite frankly. The character was a bad idea to begin with, IMO. Neither Katie nor Maggie had very much to work with. I just think Katie pulled Rachel Dawes off better. Katie's Rachel was just more likeable to me.

But... again... I also like the TDK batsuit, the Tumblr, I was always glad the Joker wasn't permawhite, I actually liked some of the one-liners in BB, and I liked that TDK was more of a Joker/mob movie than a Batman movie. So I'm probably an odd one around these parts...

I'm in the same league :awesome:
But i didn't mind Rachel as much as most did

That's because Katie is(or was) more likable. Before Tommy got his claws into her she was cute as a button and a good actress (maybe not great, but good enough to do Rachel... obviously Nolan thought that too.)

Agreed entirely.

Meh. I don't think Rachel was terrible. She obviously didn't ruin either movie by any stretch of the imagination.

I just felt like her character was sort of an after thought... as if they wrote her into BB because the WB wanted Bruce to have a love-interest, and continued her with TDK because it'd be odd if, 6 months later, she was just up and gone.

I honestly wish they had went with a comic woman as opposed to some made-up character. At least then, even if she was an after-thought, there'd be a basis for the writers and actress to work from.

Rachel was just empty. Not someone I identified with or felt for emotionally. She was just kinda there... for no reason. I feel like both movies could have gotten along quite well without her in the first place. Hence why I say that Katie and Maggie had little to work with. There really was nothing there. I just think Katie did better with what little they had than Maggie did.

Yes I wanna see this link as well since you "know for a fact"

I do, too. How does he know "for a fact"?

nobody knows s**t for a fact if it's still in the editing process

This is why the Dark Knight Rises will be better:

aside from the story and themes of redemption and perhaps sacrifice, it'll be better because of this,

He really does have the right formula for making these flicks. I expect rises to be a great flick, because whether or not he expected to do a third film, he probably had some ideas for it already.

That goodbye scene with Bruce and Liv in Armaggedon always makes me cry. I regret nothing. :o
I did too ... That has always been a guilty pleasure .... And yes Bay does great action as long as Nolan doesn't use Bay's crude humor as a guideline we are good

No way, when bruce stays behind and tells ben he loves him... AAAARGH.. right in the stomach.

It will be just as good. Just like Knight was just as good as Begins for me. One of things that's mind boggling to me is how Nolan seems to make these sequels great stand alone films in their own right but connect them just enough that there's continuity. Usually sequels either mimic what was done before (spiderman), are so far removed from the previous films (batman returns) or are worse (iron man 2).
Not to get off-topic, but the problem with Iron Man 2 wasn't that it was bad, the problem is that it was the same thing, didn't improve anything and felt like just another sequel, it's far from a great movie, but it's also far from a bad movie.

I still believe Batman Returns felt like a bat movie, Burton used is style to the extreme, but guess what, it still felt like a Bat movie, many bat comics had that Burton feel.

Now back to the nolan films i'm waiting for 3 or 4 days for an explanation of how that guy knows Nolan prefered Begins :o

One thing is for damn certain! Nolan has already broken the superhero trilogy curse! Rises will be a great flick - at it's worst! No chance in hell it'll be bad in any way.

Yeah there is no way I can see this as being bad.
Disappointing, possible.
OK, unlikely but still possible.
Worst in the series, a big maybe.
But this being bad just seems so damn impossible.

You never know. The chances it'll be bad seem low, but always leave the room open for every possibility.

I mean if you don't love BB or especially TDK I don't know why you are here on this board.

I mean for example I am not a huge fan of the Iron Man films, so I haven't spent a minute on the Iron Man film boards. I will never get why someone would discuss something they obviously don't like.

Like politicians do? :O

There's actually a lot of constructive discussion that could come from something who's subject you have an interest in, but who's delivery you don't like. If it's just for bashing......nah, better to stick with religion and politics. :D

He only said that the there's a possibility for the movie to be bad, that doesn't mean he doesn't like Batman movies, not everybody needs to think TDKR is going to be a great movie

I think you missed my point. Of course not everybody needs to think TDKR is going to be a great movie. But I have seen people here that don't love either BB or TDK and those is who I question being here at all. But then again it's just me, I would never visit a board of a franchise I didn't love.

They don't need to love, only to be interested, as long as they're not here just to be trolling. I loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight but i prefer to keep lower expectations for TDKR because if it is bad it won't bother me as much, and if it's amazing as it probably will be i will love it more than i would with high expectations

There is room for genuine criticism, even if I'm not a fan of a certain character I like to discuss their films. The issues I have is when valid complaints about a movie are used as ammunition by diehard fans to call the person pointing them out as a troll or hater, no matter how valid they are.

This man speaks TRUTH.

If this post is a response to mine, then you missed my entire point completely and you certainly don't know me as a poster. I love the Nolan films and I love most of the separate elements of TDKR so far.

But for every movie I'm excited for, I leave a 5% margin that they won't be as good as they seem. That is a lesson I learned after Spidey 3.I also leave a 5% margin that a movie I'm sure I'll hate will be good (see: the Hobbit).

Generally, I agree with you. If I'm not interested in a character or a movie/franchise, I don't go to those boards. That's why you'll never see me on the TF boards, like ever.

I think I came in at the wrong part of the conversation. I interpreted this as Bruce (Wayne) and Ben (Bane).

Now if that were a scene in TDKR, we would go beyond Bay territory and straight back to Schumacher.

I think when Rises is out the Nolan Batman with be the greatest movie trilogy ever. Better than Godfather, Star Wars, LOTR. Even Toy Story.
