I talked to people who attended test screenings. Leto's acting seemed good enough for them, but he wasn't their favorite character and his look and the interpretation of the Joker as a gangster/cartel member bugged them and didn't work all that well.

I really think Leto is going to pull it off, tats and all.

I'll never accept those ugly tats. But I think Leto will knock it out of the park, so I'll be able to overlook them. Can usually do that if the good outweighs the bad.

He's a member of a cartel? Does he at least throw them over and take over their gang eventually do you know? Because Joker working for anyone doesn't sit right with me.

Joker's design, according to Ayer, is inspired by Mexican cartel members and Ayer says that Joker was always a gangster. In a prequel comic to Suicide Squad he has a territory he controls like a gangster boss and he complains about other people encroaching on it. I don't know anything more than that.

Joker moaning about people stepping into his gangster territory. I hope it's more interesting and exciting than it sounds.

Thanks for the info.

So this Joker is thinking smaller than Heath's Joker did?

He does sound like he wants to stick around Gotham for as long as possible and maybe he's found a way to co-exist with the other mobsters and nutjobs, by doing his own thing, but still co-existing. I don't mind that. But the execution has to be somethin else for it to be enjoyable or else it's a one-dimensional gangster Joker, partying and complaining.

Leto's Joker is definitely in gangster mode.

So a somewhat-clownish gangster who runs with a crew, in his own territory...as the Joker. With a grumpy Batman who gave in to the murdering that he hated for years, even if he does return to his old ways in the end. It's certainly different from TDK Trilogy. Gotta give it to them for not repeating themselves too much. I always wanted a variety. But it still reeks of "hey, that would be COOL RIGHT!?" when it comes to make these decisions.

Maybe his fetish for material is not what it seems? Maybe he's wearing this stuff sarcastically to make fun of other criminals? He just takes it and flaunts it because it's just hilarious to him?

The look of David Ayer's joker makes me curious as to what Zack Snyder's joker would have been like.

The idea of Batman's villains dividing up Gotham into territories could be kind of interesting. It would give them a more constant presence than just when they break out of jail/Arkham.

Yeah, I always liked that in the comics.

I doubt it would have been much different. The tattoos and pimp aesthetic came from Miller's All Star, Snyder's preferred take on the mythos.

I don't mind it too much. I figured from the get-go they were going for Azzarello's Joker, which a few people didn't like, but I personally loved the hell out of.

Roxbury villain from the cartel vs the Punisher with a cool Batman suit.

Can you feel the heat? The battle for the ages. Who will kill the other? What are the names of Jokers parents? Will their battle take place on the dance floor? Will the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air join them with an unexpected victory? Will the Butabi brothers make an appearance? Did Joker grab Mr Zadir's ass? Will Daredevil try to stop Batman for good, knowing his true identity to be Frank Castle? Or will Ben Affleck start crying when he sees Daredevil, remembering his past life when he was blind and battling the Roxbury Bouncer (Michael Clarke Duncan aka Kingpin)?

I feel like this would end up being better than what Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck can come up with.

:lmao:

Alfred calling him Mister Wayne at one point in the ultimate cut...yeah that's annoying. I honestly need glasses feel a closer relationship between these two.

Wait, shauner you've seen the ultimate cut? Thoughts?

I haven't watched the leak, will probably just wait to borrow it from my friend when he buys the Blu-ray.

Nope just a bunch of clips that were posted online. Not all of them.

whoever was in charge of cutting down the movie for the theatrical cut needs a good kick directly in the ass as well as being shown the door. What a piss poor job they did with cutting some of the scenes that were left out, some of those which could have elevated this movie from being a steaming pile of horse crap to just a bad movie.

I guess we may never know if them cutting the movie down was Snyder trying to give WB what he thought they wanted, or actually a direct result of the studio notes after WB panicked and decided they didn't want to put a 3 hour movie out in theaters.

It's also possible that WB execs knew the movie had problems regardless and just figured that a bloated 3 hour movie would just be another thing for critics and audiences to harp on- especially those not enjoying the overall approach to the characters. Not to mention the movie would have made even less money that way too, most likely.

Seems like a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. That's why big films can be such a risk. Can't go back to the drawing board after you see something may not be working, not after nearly half a billion dollars has been spent.

At the end of the day the blame still lays at Snyder's feet. He should've had the wisdom to not conceive of such a bloated and unwieldly picture with a budget north of 200 million and WB's future at stake. I mean, he got his R-rated Watchmen cut down from 3 hours for a theatrical release. Did he really not think they were gonna do the same with a PG13 Batman/Superman flick.

Is he an imbecile?

It could be just the opposite, where he and Terrio thought that precisely because it was a Bats/Supes movie, they could get away with doing it this 'artistic' way since it was going to be a must-see movie event no matter what.

I really don't know. I'd love to see that shooting script. TDKR's shooting script was 165 pages and the movie was 165 minutes including credits. Granted, there are little bits here and there that were snipped out of TDKR, but Nolan essentially knew he was aiming to make a 2:45 film (the Art and Making of TDKT book says he was committed to keeping it under 3 hours from the start).

With BvS you have entire subplots that were chopped down until they were nonexistent, it's a whole different animal where it's harder to even know what they were thinking.

I will say though if the script reflected a 3 hour film, and WB signed off on it only to later get cold feet, I do think they share in the blame for what happened.

That's a compliment, more than I should expect.
I doubt the deleted scenes will elevate the movie that highly for me, the stink might be easier to handle though.

you'd be really surprised just how well a few of the scenes really work. Plus it answers a few questions as well as puts to rest a few complaints about this interpretation of superman.

This makes me curious to want to see the Ultimate Cut, and wonder if this won't make me angrier than the theatrical release did.
