oh this will definitely make you angry in the sense that none of this stuff was in the theatrical cut when there are plenty of things that could (and should) have been removed from the film.

Season 5 was filler once the first episode was over with. What they should have done was this:

Go right into the Brother Sam (Mos Def) storyline from season 6. You know, the one that showed character growth and gave Dexter a dilemma. They abandoned that halfway through season 6 and i say it should have been spread throughout season 5 until the last couple of episodes. They had Dexter's brother become Dexter's dark passenger but after that amazing reveal at the end of the episode where Brother Sam was killed, they only used him for one episode and played it for laughs. It should have lasted at least a few episodes, taking the fathers place in that role. It should have led to Dexter going evil, killing LaGuerta in the season 5 (not 6) finale. And THAT is when Debra finds out who Dexter really is. Not with that predictable, cliche, see it from a mile away twist that involved Tom Hanks' son. The villains in seasons 5, 6 and 7 were so random. They needed to make Dexter the villain with his dead brother in his ear. There's no way to top Trinity, so don't try. Get away from the formula.

I would have sprinkled this season with Hannah in a similar way to season 7 but the idea would be to have Dexter torn between the dark side (Hannah who understands that side of him) and Brother Sam (who is trying to save Dexter's soul). Sam is murdered by somebody connected to Hannah. Dex learns that Hannah's not actually behind it but proceeds to go on a rampage with the Ice Truck Killer constantly telling him what he wants to hear. Quinn and LaGuerta would be suspicious of Dexter. It leads to them investigating the death of Brother Sam and the dude Dex drowned that night. Quinn backs out last second because of Deb but loses her anyway. This leads to LaGuerta's death like i said, when she doesn't back down from trying to arrest him. Deb walks in on the scene of the crime. Cliffhanger (pretty close to what actually happened. Maybe it still takes place in a church).

This would have set up the final season. This is so simple and logical. How do you screw this up!? The final season (season 6) should have been the hunt for Dexter with Debra torn between helping Dexter get away and turning him in/executing her brother. Batista, Masuka, everyone should have found out and picked sides. Every character is put in a bad position. Dexter begins to fall in love with Hannah, and sees who she truly is, which is one of the only things they were doing right in the final two seasons. She helps him get rid of his dark passenger completely.

The finale would be what the original showrunner intended. Dexter on a table this time. Lethal injection. Cameos with all of his past victims (Doaks, Lila, Miguel, Trinity and more such as Rita/Brother Sam) all returning. Hannah leaves with Harrison beforehand to live a happier life.

I read some old posts on this forum, and I gotta say....TDKR defenders back in the day sounded similar to MOS/BvS defenders. They weren't as over the top as a Snyder defender, but the pretentiousness and love of conjecture is a shared trait, IMO.

Not even remotely comparable. TDKR haters had their own levels of conjecture as well.

Well, you're right in what you said. There is some similarities for sure. Remember the likes of Anno_Domini? Classic poster child of the mirror image to the hardcore Snyder defenders. Though I'll say one thing Snyder fans have over the TDKR defenders back then, they never demanded their own positive fan thread, which then got shut down because they used it to insult any detractors on the forum.

TDKR positive fan threads went out like religious discussion threads, for the same reasons.
 
No, they didn't. Nothing like that ever happened. If you believe otherwise then post some proof. All the old threads, including the closed ones, are still there in the SHH archives.
 
If I remember correctly, the original "Positivity" thread was created in response or as an alternative to the "Negativity" thread which had the title of something liked "I feel nothing but dread" before being re-titled to the "Skepticism" thread.

After the film's release, it seems like a mod closed the Skepticism thread and made another Positivity thread for whatever reason.
 
As a TDKR defender, I can definitely see the parallels sometimes, and I noticed it after MoS. The irony wasn't lost on me, since I wasn't the biggest fan of Man of Steel and in a way I kinda sympathized with those fans were going through...to a degree. Not that I condone extreme "You didn't get it, the movie's too smart for you maaan" type behavior, but I did feel for the ones who were trying to have a civil debate and were just getting drowned out by extreme hate.

All I've got to say on the issue though is....I'm still proud to have been pro-TDKR, because Snyder's DC films further underscore to me the level of quality that Nolan's films brought compared to what we have now, even with his most controversial Bat-film. And the context is so different too, where TDKR was a film that had already earned a lot of good will with me via the first two films and my attachment to that universe/characters. I was more willing to take leaps with the movie, because the series had earned my emotional investment. Sort of similar to how the MCU is now with people, except just with two really great film, one of them being the crown jewel of the genre IMO. Whereas Snyder has really yet to make me care about the characters after two films. In fact that feeling I walk away most from with BvS isn't hate, just indifference.

Yeah, the positivity thread wasn't made until post-release, when the BvS board turned overwhelmingly negative toward the film. The Skepticism thread was made Pre Release, when the BvS board was anti-skepticism.

I'll say this for TDKR defenders...besides Anno, I'm not sure TDKR defenders would walk into a "TDKR skepticism" thread to whine about people being skeptical....or, maybe some would.

Oh you're talking about religious threads. Sorry misunderstood, I thought you meant that nonsense was going on in the TDKR days.

I can't comment on what goes on in religious threads as I don't participate in them.
 
I just rewatched TDKR and enjoyed it quite a bit. BW's arc is the most in depth and fleshed out of the three films. A lot of the problems I had with the film registered less (not that there aren't still flaws).

TDKR lovers can rejoice.

Even without hindsight, I don't think the reception to TDKR was anywhere near BvS. The most it ever got was "it's a bad sequel" or "it's a bad Batman film", but almost no one said it was a bad film period. Everyone was debating the film in the context that we all agreed on what the core positives were (acting, soundtrack, effects, etc.). With BvS you barely have even that.
