Alright, now that I'm done with the best CBM we had so far -I have not yet seen Logan- I will say I came to the conclusion of 'Captain America: Civil War is the closest we got to a second TDK'.
The amount of humor is the equivalent, personal conflicts are pretty similar, final fight of allies confronting each other because the antagonist put them to it.
One thing TDK obviously has better than CW and BB is the lack of the annoying shaky camera.
 
I prefer Winter Solider over Civil War. It's better paced and the narrative is more focused (admittedly civil war juggles a much larger cast).

I will say Civil War probably has the stronger third act because of how small scaled it is, but overall I like TWS more.
 
The smaller cast helps in making TWS easier to appreciate. I'm here wondering which movie is it that I will like more of the two in my next view.
 
Did our favorite Lois Lane fan/poster get banned? I don't think i've seen her losing her mind lately on these boards..

I too actually prefer Civil War to TWS. It might be better than the first Avengers movie too (tough to say). But it isn't in TDK's ballpark. It still feels very much like a corporate product where characters and brands are cross-promoting each other. It doesn't feel like a singular cinematic vision, and it has very little to say about the real world that makes it linger in the mind. Also while Downey and Evans are great, no one in that movie I feel like is giving it what The Dark Knight got from five of its six leads (Ledger, Bale, Eckhart, Oldman, and Caine).
 
I agree man. I was watching a lot of it last night and the shaky cam was a bit of an annoyance considering how amazing the stunts/choreography is. Not TOO distracting but a bit annoying.

I'm with you on the cross promoting. It stuck out to me way more this time around, how Spidey and Ant-Man are just thrown in there for the fans and to set Avengers up rather than any other purpose. I'm glad they're in it because those two characters made that airport fight so entertaining. Rudd is hilarious. But I get the criticism now. It's forced in there. And Scarlet Witch becomes useless/boring real quick once she causes that tragedy. Her scenes with Vision are kinda meh. Maybe it also has to do with her bad accent that always seems to slip.

Downey is at his best in Civil War though.

I actually think TWS has a tighter script than Civil War. I also think it does much better political commentary than Civil War did. The latter still has a lot of the same issues the Superhero Registration Act had in the comics. The Russos did the best possible job with it anyone could have, but it's still innately a flawed idea from the get-go.

Also as much as I hate to admit it, there is some truth to the meme that Marvel films are cheap corporate products. I find the further I get away from them, the less memorable they become. I enjoyed TWS and DOFP about equally, but I don't think think back on TWS as much as I do on DOFP. Xavier's character arc still resonates with me emotionally; with TWS I have to rewatch it everytime I want it to resonate again. Marvel's films, even when they're equally good to other films, just aren't as memorable as those other films for some reason. The only exceptions to this were Iron Man and the Netflix shows. The Avengers was memorable as an event, but not that memorable as a film.

I find the same applies to other more "auteur-esque" movies. I don't like Rises much, but it's still a very memorable film. It still resonated with me emotionally, just not in a good way. Same goes with TASM2 despite its flaws. The Peter-and-Gwen stuff, Peter-and-Harry stuff, and the ending are still more memorable to me than most of the best parts of the MCU. And then there's Logan, which I still think about almost a month later and how visceral of an experience it was.
 
Logan has the best ensemble acting in a superhero film I've seen since TDK. Patrick Stewart and Jackman deserve noms
 
Dafne Keen was great was well.

And bless up to Patrick Stewart. Amazing performance.

The scene where he talks about [BLACKOUT]how he had the most perfect night but doesn't deserve it.

I always loved that moment because it helps Bruce keep his vapid public persona up but could also just be an excuse for him to get some sleep. The dude barely gets quality shut-eye.
 
I love how Nolan misdirected us for a moment with the guy standing in the background making us think it's Bruce, then the camera zooms in on him asleep at the table lol.

Basically every scene he had with Morgan Freeman in all three films and half his scenes with Caine. All his scenes with Hathaway too.

Yeah, for such a "dark" trilogy, he knew how to have fun a little bit. Or at least the filmmakers sure did.
