^ Yet you admit that you enjoyed the Total Recall remake which had not one of those three elements.

It didn't to you, but I consider it full throttle high-polish well executed entertainment. The visuals were fantastic. The story and concept were paltry, but the execution of it was solid. I had more fun watching that movie than most other summer blockbusters in a power down your brain and enjoy the ride way.

Jesus. It's like people here are trying to trap you with some AHA! CAUGHT YOU SAYING SOMETHING I CAN USE AGAINST YOU LATER! stupid stuff

i think it's also cuz if u compare the original robocop vs the original total recall...clearly one of them is a "classic" while the other is just a fun B-movie.

when u remake robocop, u expect it to be either great or very good.
when u remake total recall, u just wanna see cool explosions and shiz. lol. turn off ur brain popcorn fluff.

Pretty much. The thing also is, I read the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" before I saw the Arnie Total Recall movie which is an uber campy adaptation of it. It's good fun, don't get me wrong, but they turned it into an action fantasy comedy, instead of the thriller fantasy satire which the short story is. The new movie is an amalgam remake of the original story + the first movie. But it's also straight up action sci-fi movie, no fantasy, no satire. And I liked it for what it was. I liked it a lot actually

i should check it out, i thought the previews for it looked pretty cool actually.

i don't hold the original arnie one as sacred. i just thought it was fun, esp when arnold says one-liners like "see you at the party, Richter!" right after the bad guy's arms got ripped off LOL.

My opinion might be bias, and if it is so be it, but my stance for reboots are they need to be one of three things: just as good as the original, better than the original, or full throttle high-polish well executed entertainment. If it's worse than the original, no matter the intention of the filmmakers to do it, I feel that every fan of the original has carte blanche to crap aaaaall over it. It tells the studios that if you're going to screw with something iconic, deliver the goods. And that goes for every remake not just this one.

Word.

Yep. It's one of the craziest comedies ever. If you go in knowing it's a dark comedy, you'll love it. First time I watched it I was kind of confused why it was trying to be so funny hah I was expecting more of a Predator style humor if anything.

As far as the effects in the new TR movie go, they're really good. The robots in particular are fantastic. They look much better/more realistic than the new Robocop drones.

There's no such thing as a "professional review". One persons opinion is just as good as another. My opinion is professional, where as yours is amature? Doesn't jive. If you get paid for "reviews" then you've seriously got it easy lol.

I don't dig on reviews and ratings, and how everyone relys on them so much argh.

Perfect example is that poni boy liked total recall12, a film that is known for getting lambasted in hate left and right, there's nothing wrong with that!

Just because he doesn't like robocop doesn't mean you need to "be worried" lol, it's sad/ funny to me. I like hearing people's opinions, but I never trust anyone but myself! Even people who it agree with 100% of the time! There WILL be movies you love that other people HAAAATE. If your interested in this movie, then just see it. If you dig on it then see it. Don't go just because some people give it a bad rating, you may be missing out on something you could potentially love! I'm just speaking generally, and not to anyone in particular with that.

I havnt seen TR12 myself, so I can't comment on it, but honestly, I'm sure it's a fun film. I will rent it this week relax and check it out. I love the first recall but havnt seen it in years!

I think my robocop celebration marathon will consist of the two total recall films, Elite Force, Robocop, Robocop 2, and maybe one or two eps of the series on YouTube(on ps3) sprinkled in lmao.

Was that directed at anyone or...

Not to start a debate on the issue or anything but, yes, there is a difference between a professional reviewer, an amateur reviewer and a critic. There's a big difference.

The Total Recall remake was great fun. Never understood all the hate.

Simple, people (critics in particular) care a lot about the first movie. Which is fine. It was revolutionary in its day. Even won an Academy Award. What I'm surprised about is I only read one review that compared it to the original PKD short story. The rest of the comparisons were to the first movie, and that's unfair. It's like comparing Batman Begins only to Batman (89) and pretending there's no older comic book basis for the mythology.

And obviously I agree, it's great fun. Nothing more, nothing less. And it doesn't try to be.

A person who thinks the Friedberg/Seltzer parody movies have a wrong opinion lol

I work with a guy, A GUY, who completely seriously and HONESTLY said to me that he believes that the Twilight books will be regarded in the future as on the same level of Romeo and Juliet.

I know you're not supposed to say this but he had an incorrect opinion :oldrazz:

Opinions can be wrong of course. An extreme example would be someone thinking Hitler was a cool guy.

Didn't Tila Tequila recently say on Twitter that it's not fair to judge Hitler cause we didnt know his side of the story :lmao:

I think like all things, Robo 2014 will be a matter of taste. Some will like it, some won't. We'll decide for ourselves.

Can someone please explain this "there's no such thing as a professional critic" thing to me? I've seem random people state it in numerous threads. Obviously it's nonsensical, but where the hell did it start and why is it even a thing?

It's something created by angry, disgruntled people.

When critics 'agree' with the internet, they're marked as heroes. When they don't, they are seen as villains.

A professional critic is someone who gets paid to give his opinion of something.
Usually the review is written in a way so that you can tell if you will disagree or agree with their assessment. This allows for you to pretty much know if you would like the movie even if they hate it or vice versa.

Poni Boy is a great example actually. I don't have the exact taste in films as he does but I pretty much know if I'll want to spend money on the film after reading his review even if we disagree on why.

Ah, so just another case of "I like this even if I haven't seen it but I know it's good but you said it's bad so let me tell you why you're wrong" griping

You have no idea how much I agree with that bold statement. So many people don't get it, you're not supposed to agree with every review someone writes you're simply supposed to take the critical deconstruction and apply it to what you personally like or don't like.

And thanks :yay: glad to see I've done my part to help. Most people here who read my reviews just jump on my ass about the star rating I give something without even reading the review itself. The rating is window dressing. And ratings this day and age are useless since there's no standardized system.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
