I guess it is human nature, but just as an analogy, I appreciate both the Burton batfilms and the Nolan batfilms for what they were as two different interpretations of the character, I don't tend to compare them as if one is necessarily better than the other. With these sorts of comparisons one must be very careful not to strike false dichotomies I think.

Of course, the Schumacher films on the other hand...

I'm with you. I compare them but I still like both versions. You can compare things and still say you like both. I have my favorite players in the sports I like and even if they play the same position, it doesn't take away from the other in my mind. Kobe is my fav bball player PERIOD but I still like Derrick Rose and it doesn't take anything away from him

Hey, if it's better than SM3, we all win at the end of the day.

I disagree. It's a far better starting point if the first Webb SM movie is even or better than Raimi's first SM movie.

SM3 is very weak, so it's not any kind of accomplishment to beat that film in quality.

That's my word, the hardest thing to do will be to not compare them. I think that's just human nature. I'm sure it'll get easier as the years go on or once the sequel comes out but it will be so so tough to not compare and contrast

I think it's fun to compare movies to some extent.

You get an idea of why people like these characters and stories to begin with.

Exactly, I'd rather treat them as separate entities and judge them on their own merits because they're so different.

But contrasting the different version helps emphasize what each movie go right and what each movie was missing.

I like hearing people argue about the different interpretations of the Hulk. Most people make good points why their favorite version is the best.

Is Spider-Man such a one note character that he can only have one good interpretation of his origin story? It seems to me that both of these films, SM1 and TASM, will be great in their own way, just different versions / visions of the character.

The great thing about characters like Spider-Man and Batman is that they lend themselves to a wide variety of interpretations, each capturing a different aspect of what makes the character great. So instead of being in contest with one another, the two different interpretations rather compliment each other in a way.

I'm just saying sometimes the best way to realize the strongest aspects of each version is reading someone debate how their favored version is superior.

But yes it's best to leave such a debate with a greater appreciation for both versions.

Probably has been asked, but I'll ask for good measure to those who have seen the film.

Do we get to see a full transformation from Connors to Lizard?

I know for myself, if TASM is good, I'll be riding such a high when I exit the theater that it'll be hard to make comparisons.

I hope it's great, I don't want to stop talking to you guys. Hyping up TASM2 is gonna be so much fun! :awesome:

Superheroes are fictional characters based on comics, they are not historical personalities, so they are open to interpretation given that they stay within the boundries that define then as sketched out in comics.

The good thing about the various origins (different takes on the origins) of the same hero is that each movie includes something new that was left unexplored or was not dealt with in depth in either movie.

Yeah, I won't be thinking about Raimi's movies at any point during or after the viewing. Although I probably will watch them near the end of this week leading up to release.

I thought about doing that but I really don't have a desire to. I can't even remember the last time I've watched them and that's no diss, just don't have a desire to. I know I won't be thinking of them when I watch it or immediately after but probably down the line as the weeks go on, I'll start popping off comparisons in my head.

Very OT, but I have to ask you in regards to your avatar. Is Scarecrow confirmed for TDKR as well or is that picture of him in the rain fan made?

Fan made. Though there are rumors and theories that Scarecrow might be in the film.

Well you're just doing everything wrong then. :o:cwink:

It's just hype for me. I'll be playing the game tomorrow, and then come Friday and Saturday I'll probably be sitting down at some point to continue my hype train.

Choo choo b****es.

I don't know about scarecrow, but Jonathan Crane is definitely in it.

"Choo choo *****es."

:lmao: I'm so excited. Every week for the next 4 weeks something big is happening in my life, this week is the game, next week is the movie, the week after is my first full week of my first job, and finally the week after that is TDKR! :awesome:

Man, I'm even holding off on the game right now..mostly because I need to slow down on buying games for a while so I'm sure I'll get it after most of you do but that's cool. I'm already extremely hype...this is going to be a long week. I just wish I was still in NYC so I could partake in spider man week. Really tight I'm missing that

speaking of which anyone see any vids for spider-man week. I wish I was in NY right about now

*hey Sharkboy. I know you don't mean to spoil things...but could you keep the TDKR talk...in that forum. I'm trying to go into that movie (like I'm sure a few others) as spoiler free as possible.
