Nice one, Cap!

does 17 mill in China includes one day or the whole weekend??
if its whole weekend then im suprised that its "very small".much less the what transformers, harry potter, titanic and mission impossible did recently?!
it feels very weird and it must be a mistake...

ONE DAY. both China and Russia.

I completely underestimated this film. I was not crazy about the film myself, but I can see why it did so well. Also with whedon if can make the sequels more personal with less SHIELD and less aliens it could be something really special. The cast is amazing, and Whedon can direct action great, where you can actually see what is going on.

let's be honest here, there isn't a marvel/avengers/spidey fan that ISN'T going to see TDKR. so we're just teasing ;)

Yep, on Blu Ray. I can't be dealing with Serious Business on Friday after work. :cwink:

Meh.

What is the point of a superhero movie if he hangs out in a magical world full of people just as powerful as he is?

Shhh...I agree but there are people around these parts who really don't. We have to talk in hushed tones about an Earth based Thor movie. :o

Thor's more powerful than everyone in Asgard besides Odin himself, as a matter of fact he's like an Asgardian "Captain America" in that sense.

So Thor being in Asgard is just like Cap being on earth, they also treat him like a superhero because he's so much more powerful than everyone else.

Any comic film who doesn't see both of these films must have the most specific tastes. Avengers & TDK between them cover a lot of what is best about comics with a light and dark take.

JMS basically said the same thing about Thor though. Asgard is a problem. You don't understand what a god is if he's with other gods. He's just an angry viking. In the end, he was proven right.

The Tesseract can be seen as a mcguffin. But i think it's also intended as a metaphor for the global energy crisis.

As for deeper meanings that can be read into the film, I think Ruffalo had the best take on it that I've seen yet what with it being an allegory for our modern, divisive times and the need for people to put their own interests aside so that the community as a whole can be unified to tackle big problems of the day.

Arad DID get the ball rolling and for that he does deserve some credit. The problem was that he ended up being more concerned with making sure that ball was rolling than he was with making sure it was also rolling in the right direction. Feige is the guy who ended up making sure things started rolling in the right direction.

True, true.

without Whedon this would have been Zak Penn and Jon Favreau?

He's no more of a god on earth next to the likes of Hulk than he is on Asgard, Thor's head and shoulders above Asgardians.

Thor stands out on Asgard just as much as Iron Man and Captain America stand out on earth.

Its still an estimate and 0.3 isn't much room for error. Hold off the celebratory drinks just yet. It could go up, it could go down /party pooper
I agree .
I would be much happier if it were an estimate of $220.
But , then , I wouldnt see that estimate because I would be comatose on the floor!

I don't think Favreau would've been willing to work solely from a Zack Penn script. He'd have brought a new writer in, probably Whedon.

If this ends up at $205m for the weekend I'll equal Batman Begins lifetime gross.

it's a good thing. with a bigger budget, thor (for example) could be set entirely on asgard.

I don't think you really "get" marvel. The next movie will be the exact opposite of this thank god. Nobody wants a 200million Wagner opera cgi-fest.

Ummmm did you not get the memo that Marvel stated that Thor 2 will take place primarily within the Asgardian realms?

Traveling to different realms is hardly what I would call an "opera fest", it's not like he's going to be sitting around in the city of Asgard.

thors best stories are set on asgard

Except that it's already been said the next movie will be centered on the other realms.
