thors best stories are set on asgard

Are they? I think IGN has a good list of the best runs:
http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/116/1166153p1.html

Walter Simonson's Thor: Earth doesn't disappear but I would say he's more focused on sci fi and fantasy elements

Thor: The Mighty Avenger: Entirely on Earth

Thor by J. Michael Straczynski: Earth Based by dragging Asgard down to the US desert.

Thor: Tales of Asgard: Stan Lee's Backups, obviously Asgard based.

Avengers Disassembled: Thor: Its Avengers but also Ragnarok so that's a 50/50

Thor: Ages of Thunder: Asgard Based

Essential Thor Vol. 1: Earthbound most definitely, Hyde, Cobra, The Tomorrow Man!

The Ultimates 2: Hippy Jesus Thor is here to save humanity and woo hot hippy nurses, earthbound. (ignoring their choice of Ultimate Thor because they start by saying it isn't classic Thor)

When it comes to minis, Asgard stories are Ok but ongoing I'd say it leans toward Earthbound.

ONE DAY. both China and Russia.

no russia numbers were for entire weekend-im sure of that
as for china i think now that 17 mill is for saturday and sunday but it should rise up a bit when official numbers come in tomorrow

As I've said earlier that works in the comics, but that's not the best route for the films even YOU should understand that.

The framing in this movie is the absolute bawlz. The only bizarre shot I can think of is the "You people are so petty" one, considering how tucked away Thor is but otherwise practically every shot is a winner that looks like it was ripped straight from a comic panel. Only in a more natural way than other adaptations have had. Like others have mentioned, dat tracking shot.

I think it's a far more unique vision than other Marvel directors like Favreau's or Letterier's. Theirs aren't bad by any means, but this movie has an obvious director stamp on it visually that theirs didn't. My opinion, of course.

I don't think you really "get" marvel. The next movie will be the exact opposite of this thank god. Nobody wants a 200million Wagner opera cgi-fest.
On top of what people have already said, there was an interview with Hemsworth where he said he really liked Game of Thrones (on the subject of director Alan Taylor) and that he liked that they used a lot of real environments and had hopes for that Taylor would do the same with Thor 2. It's quite likely that Thor 2 will rely less on CGI than the first one for the non-Midgard realms, despite probably being more epic.

Thor II definately does NOT deserve a budget bigger budget than The Avengers, I think a budget of 180M + would suffice.

yes it does...
marvel/disney should and probably will have more faith in this franchise and they know they have to invest more in order to earn more.
bigger budget means huge action scenes especially if they are set on other planets or in space and that means more money especially now after avengers.
thor can easily become bigger franchise then iron man if they handle it right

As I've said earlier that works in the comics, but that's not the best route for the films even YOU should understand that.

Its not wrong to want a Thor who is true to the core ideals of the comic version. Gallivanting around the nine realms when he hasn't even set up a connection to Midgard beyond Jane is not something I think is truly representative of who Thor as a character is.

Asgard was boring to some in the first movie cause most of it seemed life-less and just focused on Odin's kingdom..But IF you really read the comics then you'll know there is plenty of life going on&and full of action&adventure to be had and it could all translate to film!!

LOTR style indeed!

I'd sure be disappointed IF Thor don't go around Asgard and travel&kicking a**around the 9 realms for the most of part Thor II,Maybe go to Earth for a scene or two to find Jane and take her to Asgard!!

I think the budget should be bigger than Thor But not bigger than Avengers,I THINK even Whedon said the Avengers sequel would be smaller..But I think they may need to go higher cause of Thanos!!

no studio(and especially not disney) would agree and allow a sequel to a huge movie and gigantic hit like Avengers to go small.that will not happen no matter what their director wants or thinks...
people will be expecting bigger things now then just destroyed manhattan and if they do some smaller, more intimate suff it will backfire on them...

Wow they are in full meltdown mode on the TDKR forums. I honestly think the pissing match going back and forth is getting ridiculous. But sheez they are doing stuff like giving backhanded compliments like, "give marvel credit for massive promotion on a so so film." Nothing but sour grapes.

someone made a comment here that if Avengers made 200M that TDKR would make 250M. Now I don't know if that was a serious comment or more just saying Avengers wouldn't get 200M, but now that it has I doubt anyone is going to back up a comment like that

Why the hell is it so hard to keep things on topic around here?

lol..the TDKR boards here are not that bad compared to those at nolanfans.com..the avengers thread over there is hilarious. Those guys are sooooo ********.

It's that bad over there? The sad part is that's not unique to that board; I saw similar stuff in threads about other franchises (which I won't name). Quite pathetic, and sour grapes, as you've said.

One major reason I stay out of single upcoming CBM forums except every now&then when I post my opinions on new news!

I'm so glad I grew up loving comics in general than just DC or Marvel and that I have more than just one favorite CB character!

Guys let's set a good example by staying on topic. Let's save the thor 2 debates for when we're further down that road.

I think I'll lurk in the tdkr forum for a bit just to amuse myself. Nolanite angst/confusion can be funny in very small doses.

For the record, I'm hoping tdkr is a huge artistic/commercial success.

It comes down a lot to personal taste I think, since all my friends that weren't familiar with comic book Thor wanted to see more in Asgard and less of Earth.

Your right and so back on topic..Woo hoo great news for Marvel&Disney and they deserve every penny&more!!

- Is that the pissing contest you're talking about? :o

I think that just means you are a comic fan with normal brain function. :yay:

Batman is such legitimate movie making you can smell the authenticity and integrity of the director as you watch it :oldrazz:

I feel sorry for the regular bat fans
My question is ,
which of the explosions and fight scenes from TDKR "transcend the genre"?
I am not saying that the Nolan films are bad but, they are ACTION films not arthouse dramas .
just consider that an opinion from a regular Bat fan.

Whedon isnt gonna write for another director unless he is the co-director in the shadow or he calls the shots in equall measure, that much he has made clear in the past.

Never say never, but i doubt he would.

Whedon wrote for Johnston on CA:TFA. Now that TA is the biggest hit in the universe he might have different priorities but Whedon's done writing for many movies that he was not a director of. Come to think of it, so has Favreau. They're both common script doctors in hollywood.

Ok it's obvious that you refuse to see the point that has clearly been made several times by several different people.

Carry on then

Did I not say The Avengers had the potential to reach 200M opening weekend?! I didn't straight out predict it, but I had faith.

The movie deserves every penny.
