The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 5

I could see this with X-men, but do you think Captain America has enough "oopmh/juice" to be a big thing? Seems to me like Cap's franchise will always be solid, but nothing spectacular. I think its just the nature of the character.

I think Avengers will give Cap 2 enough umph to get from $368 M in part 1 to $500 M for part 2. For what it's worth, Cap basically did average for an X-Men film...even the top grossing X-Film didn't blow it away at the B.O.

Me? Oh $650M DOM. I think $850M OS will give it a nice $1.5B WW cume.

I'm just happy that is doing so well financially. It was a great movie with a great cast, a great director, great crew and a Studio that really thought this out.

I'm even happier thats its smashing all of these records and takes some of these Nolanites down a peg or two :P

$50M would be an over 50% drop. If it didn't drop that much this weekend it for sure isn't going to next weekend.

if only you knew how happy everyone is with the results and the overall presence (both marvel and especially disney), that the movie has around the world. Promoting this movie was a blast, to say the least! The marketing was spot on and did what was right for almost everyone (even though some of the posters look too photoshoppy). It's motivating and really essential that from now on almost everyone became invested in mcu and shows a great interest in the upcoming new phase 2-related films. It's very exciting when you have not only the devoted and fantastic marvel fan-base on your side, but also a general audience (along with so-called fans on tumblr). Really gets things going, if you ask me) 7 years in the making - 2 years of planning the script (thanks to the genius of joss whedon) and in the end, you get one of the best mcu and comic book movies ever!

GAWD!! There you are! I was wondering if the completely mindboggling success of TA somehow gave you a heart attack or something! Glad to see you're back and enjoying the crowning achievement of MS' ambitious project!

I don't think Cap is going to reach Spider-man heights just yet but I do believe a Cap film can make at least IM money if his action scenes have the Spidey wow factor. It's better in Avengers but they need to make him even faster, more agile & using more acrobatics. Basically do what they're doing but just to a much bigger extent.

I also think in his own film the costume becomes 100 times more important and at the moment I don't think Cap's helmet/cowl is iconic/cool enough. While it's a very minor thing in Avengers I really think it's a $70-80m issue for a solo film. Spidey & Bats have such unique (& extremely cool) costumes. Anyway not the time for me to bringing this stuff up. Now is party time!! :woot:

I knew it all along! I would gloat, but I don't think anyone would care.

1B was ALWAYS a lock in my mind and I tried to convince naysayers like jmc, but they wouldn't listen. Oh well...

Back in January I predicted 1.4 (The Avengers) and 1.6 (Batman).Might have to change my mind for the other though.

The individual sequels are gonna have to markedly up their game now that the bar has been set. I liked ca:tfa, but if you made a list of the top 15 moments/scenes in TA, the bottom five on that list would surpass anything in tfa or thor.

I don't think whedon needs to write all these scripts, but... Wait maybe that is what I'm saying.

My God, a billion in 19 days??!! What was the billion record before this? Because goddamn, this has exceeded all my expectations. Should have listened to my friend at college.

I would have never expected it to be this huge. God, I'm loving this.

They missed breaking Avator's record by two days.

just wondering, have any of the theatres in any of your areas sold out screens of the avengers? where im at, overall this weekend, there have been 10 sold out and the opening weekend as big as it was there where none sold out

and side not: in favor of it going to 600 domestic, not everybody who wants to watch it has watched it yet, i have yet to find time to go see it with my brother due to my folks deciding to watch dark shadows first THEN avengers

and it could have even had a chance at 700m domestic, if DKR was not coming out this summer

So far Avengers is doing well outside the states.
However don't forget that between June 8th till July 1st , Europe will have EURO 2012 .
And anyone will half a brain knows that movies can definately suffer during that time. Most people are watching the football games on their tv instead of going to the cinema.

true, u.s is one of the very few countries where soccer is not the top sport and in the countries where it is, its bigger than what the superbowl is here

I have to say it's the lowest profile tournament this year that I've seen. Have hardly heard a peep about it and the media is usually going crazy about it.

Dude that makes no sense in the world. TDKR comes out in July. This is May. If it was going to make $700M it would. TDKR would have nothing to do with it.

Yeah I agree. Cap needs a little more "cool" in his films ala Spidey or Iron Man. I think Bats is the exception due to his status as a global icon

Probably cause in most european countries , the competition just ended.

I think he will get that. SHIELD likely will be his supporting cast (giving him Fury, Widow, and Hawkeye to add to his bankability), plus the "man out of time" angle will get more play. I imagine his fights will get more imaginitive over time, as well.

Very very awesome news,I was hoping for it But didn't think it'd get past the 1 Bill.mark,I'm happy for Marvel&Disney and feel they deserve every penny!!!

Very happy to hear this made a billion worldwide, I had a feeling it would very soon. Congratulations  Here's to hoping it continues racking the numbers.
