:funny: I used to love Dinosaurs. I haven't even thought of that show in years.

May 4th for now on should be celebrated as May Day. The day Avengers killed the American box office. Let Universal, Sony, and Warner Bros cry this day for years to come.

Considering the adjusted gross I think it can stay Star Wars day. :o

As I told a certain debbie downer a month ago, while Battleship promised A spectacle, The Avengers delivered THE spectacle. It was a poor Transformers clone going up against something what Transformers should've been.

Have you noticed that ol' Debbie has made himself scarce since May 4th? Haven't seen hide nor hair of him in these parts since The Avengers smashed the opening weekend record. Why, I wonder? I was certain that he was going to stick around for his serving of crow like any honorable Downer would.

I forgot it was Star Wars Day. Maybe it can be both. There are days with 2 holidays.

I haven't seen any of the detractors since the film was released. At least Alexi seemed to turn around though.

It's because of the four stages that Avengers bashers went through.

1. Proudly proclaims that there's NO WAY that the movie will reach 1 Bill, let alone break any records

2. After proven wrong, acts like the movie making a billion, breaking lotsa records is no big deal.

3. Getting further annoyed by the movie's success, finally leaves the Avengers board.

4.Become an active posters on the Batboards and/ or MOS boards.

:oldrazz:

The new Spiderman movie will most likely not make as much as the Avengers. it will probably do great at the box office though. but i don't think it will be as
big as the Avengers. The Amazing Spiderman will DEFINITLEY not stand a chance against the Dark Knight Rises.

So far I was only $600,000,000 under my box office prediction. :yay:

The hardcore Dark Knight only fans must be bawling their eyes out right now. They are probably acting like total babies right now.

And i have only this to say to them:

FOR GOODNESS SAKE, STOP ACTING LIKE BABIES! ITS JUST A FRIGGING MOVIE!!!!!!!!

Yeah i saw it floating around a couple a months back! Decided to use it since Avengers has now become the 3rd highest grossing film Ever!

Now Disney has to do ONE HELL OF A MARKETING PUSH. After TDKR hype dies down & get it to #2. Before it leaves theaters. They can start it by getting it back in 3D & IMAX theaters in August

Congrats to The Avengers for its Spectacular success .
Also nice to see SWATH doing Ok on its opening weekend
An estimated 55 million , according to Deadline . com .
Nice to see a non 3D movie make a profit too.

Anyhow the titanic target would be the highest possible realm it could reach, since somehow Avatar managed to weasel 750 million out of the general public with some nifty SFX and a remix of the ferngully story... Seriously no idea what anyone saw in that flick....

i can explain, it's not about the story it's about the tropes. the tropes are popular, from freedom from disability to the freedom to fly to the spiritual connection between things made bark. and it adds to the great spectacle in action tech and the avatars themselves, with the beauty of a place few will see anything similar to with their own eyes, based of underwater things for the plants. it's a rocket powered demolition derby for the action fans and standing on the highest mountain looking over to the sunset for serene fans.

Its really just a certain type of TDK fan vs everybody else. Most folks are just good movie fans. My observation anyway.

Just got back from seeing it a 4th time. Movie theater was packed! But that may be due to the lesser number of screens it's now playing on, so more people are forced to watch it at certain times.

Is Star Wars number 3 on the adjusted list?
are Gone With The Wind and Titanic still numbers 1 and 2?

Star Wars is No.2

Here's the Top Ten...

1 Gone with the Wind
2 Star Wars
3 The Sound of Music
4 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
5 Titanic
6 The Ten Commandments
7 Jaws
8 Doctor Zhivago
9 The Exorcist
10 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

It's nice to finally see the adjusted list; it looks much more like I would imagine a list of the 10 most popular movies of all time to look like (as opposed to, say, Harry Potter 7.5 and Transformers 3).

Every single week when I read BoxOfficeMojo they're touting all the different records that were broken. Sometimes it looks desperate - "highest debut ever for an R-rated comedy in March!" It comes down to their trade audience, which always wants to hear good news from box office reports. But not taking inflation into consideration makes it a bit of a cheat.

The Avengers has officially passed The Dark Knight for #3 of all time domestically, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 for #3 spot at the worldwide box office!

Amazing.

Hope it continues to clean house at the box office all over. It's a long shot for it to top Avatar, but my fingers are crossed.

GWTW has been number 1 on the adjusted list for decades .
How much has it actually made?

Just under $200m across all releases. Adjusted up to $1.6BN!
