The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 7

Until Avengers 2 comes out.

I feel like Marvel caught lightning in a bottle with the Avengers. I see each installment making crazy money, but not 1.5 billion every time. I just don't see it happening. I'd love it if it did, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

I can see it happen the 1.5 billion thing. As long as they have Whedon doing the writing duties. TA is far from his best stuff. There is much more where that came from as they say. Watching firefly confirms this for me. I will be disappoint if TA2 has a different writer.

BO: i am a bit concerned...they stopped reporting TA BO numbers...boxofficemojo last reported Jul 29. does that mean it was dropped by all theatres huh bc i still see prometheus and snowwhite tracking and asfaik they were doing worse than TA.

The release dates are what they are. May 2015 for the sequel. No indication that this is gonna change. Sorry if this doesnt work for you.

But may 2015 is just speculation. No one knows when the will come out.
And 2015 is too early anyway

Forget it; not gonna happen. Whedon is not gonna write a script for somebody else to direct it, unless he can share the creative process with his best friend like Goddard on Cabin, but being there every day on set and directing second unit, or overseeing everything like In Your Eyes with his own company; and if he did something like that, he could as well direct it himself; but giving his script to a big studio like marvel and then going away or having another director on it? Nope.

I do believe TA is some of Josses best work; as good as Buffy or Firefly or Dr. Horrrible. It may be more subtle filmaking than people are acoustamed to, but thats too bad.

Why did boxofficemojo change TA's gross from 616 mill to 615?????
They wouldn't like me when i'm angry!!!!..........

Wow Just checked the local Theaters, TA is STILL at the same theater where I guarded it. lol

When does this thing hit Japan?

No. Its still playing. I went to see it for the 5th time yesterday here in Charlotte. According to posters on Boxoffice.com Disney just stops reporting the daily numbers when it gets lower than 6 figures. They're only reporting the weekly numbers now.

A little off topic, but how much do you think Avengers will boost phase 2 sequels?

For reference:

Iron Man 2: $624 M
Thor: $449 M
Captain America: $368 M

My personal opinion is that the domestic boost will be minimal (maybe 10% for each film) but the foreign boost could approach 50%...which would equal:

Iron Man 3: $350 M + $450 M= $800 M
Thor: $200 M + $400 M= $600 M
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: $200 M + $300 M= $500 M

A Hulk sequel is a BIG Wild card...Both Hulk movies failed to break $300 M ww, but after Hulk's appearance in the $1.5 B Avengers, we might finally see the half a billion dollar Hulk hit that Marvel has always wanted.

I think that Avengers will help boost Phase 2 movies. I know a lot of my friends are wanting to see a new Hulk movie with Ruffalo. They are also more invested in the sequels, much like they were with Batman after TDK.

At the moment that is a bit of a longshot .
Hulk will probably just be part of the sequels for now .

Supposedly we are getting an ongoing tv show. If it's good then, combined with supporting roles in future movies, I'll be satisfied. A Hulk movie in 2015 would be nice though.

Joss is on board for TA2 - writing and directing. That news made my next 2 years until the movie comes out. SO HAPPY.

Holy Cow! Avengers is STILL on a screen here.

I made my last viewing of Avengers in the theater tonight (barring if it makes a return to IMAX 3D before the end of the year).

What I love most about this film, for all the anticipation building up to it, going back to 2008, when my favorite comic book character came to life on the screen, and Samuel L. Jackson says to Stark "you just became part of a larger world, you just don't know it yet," I can honestly say this film not only met my expectations it FAR exceeded them.

Although it's over, I am even more excited for Phase II. Until the Hobbit comes out this was the best movie of 2012 by far.

As The Avengers run in the US draws to a close, with Japan to come on August 17th, I don't think it's too early to make predictions for The Avengers 2. In light of TA's massive success, and with Joss Whedon returning to write and direct, I'll start things off by predicting that TA2 will gross $2.1 Billion, with $750 Million of that coming from the domestic box office.

What say you? Am I just a delusional fangirl? Or does someone want to top my prediction by staking out $2.2B? :word:

It's not gonna make 750M domestically. 1B+ overseas could easily happen, though.

A lot of factors would have to go right, I think, for TA2 to break $700 million, but... oh hell! I feel optimistic.

I'll predict $705 - $725 million domestic. I way lowballed TA. Not going to do that this time around.

lol With the movie still being in some theaters it makes me wonder if it just might do that lol

It all hinges on a number of probabilities. Assuming TA2 gets released in lets say... 2015/2016 at the least and provided it still stands up as good as TA or even better than it, i'd think it would gross 800m domestic and 2.2 bill international for a worldwide gross of 3 billion... There i said it...
