The Xbox One - Part 6

a 1 TB Halo Collection bundle would pique my interest.....

provided the console/controller isn't fugly as heck.........

We're not getting a custom Halo console. We would've seen it by now. They'll just make a plain bundle, like they did with Forza and Titanfall.

The Xbox One may have had the worst launch of any major console. Considering how truly terrible it was, they're doing surprisingly well.

Spencer seems to actually know what he's doing, and they could really close the gap over the next 12 months.

Yea as an X1 owner I wasn't sure where they were headed, particularly after the CEO shake up. But as soon as Spencer was hired I knew they'd be ok and so far it looks as tho I'm right. Spencer has done a great job thus far

There was a rumor going around that Microsoft was going to unveil a disc-less Xbox One in Germany. I never took it seriously.

But if Mattrick had still been in charge (somehow)... I might have actually considered that plausible. He was that stupid.

Spencer hasn't just improved the marketing, he's raised the bar, with USB media playback.

I wouldnt say neglible but take them away and the PS4 would still be in the lead. Probably at least 80% of its sales are coming from NA/EU

okay, fair enough, but that would mean the xbot fanboy argument that the Ps4 lead is stronger because of a larger release placement on the earth is not sound.

and I'd be perfectly fine with that if it's standard black and 1 TB.

yeah........I think we all figured at some point the X1 had to change direction ( price cut, drop Kinect, etc. ) or it would seriously sink under it own weight and truly be a failure.

I think what's surprising is how soon those changes happened.

and speaking of Kinect, despite what they say to the contrary, it's funny how it was such a huge marketing point/feature of the X1, and now it's hardly even mentioned.

it's like they recognized it's the dead weight dragging the entire console down, and once they removed it, the X1 was free to move forward.

iow......it was like a toxic relative............:o

but do you think i'm the general fanboy?

When you say things like "im disappointed that MS might take the lead" or "hopefully Sunset Overdrive will fail and it'll teach Insomniac to never develop for Xbox again", yea its hard not to look at you as anything other than a typical fan boy.

Today's Xbox One update adds remote purchases, 3D Blu-ray support

Microsoft launched an Xbox One system update today, rolling out a collection of new features and interface tweaks in response to user feedback.

The Xbox One's August update reorganizes user activity feeds, adding text entry and expanded options for shared media. After applying the upgrade, players can purchase Xbox One content online and install it remotely without manually powering on the system. Media playback also gets a boost with 3D Blu-ray support and the ability to disable system notifications while watching video.

Other new features include notifications for low controller batteries and a "last seen" option that tracks friend activity. Microsoft plans to introduce additional improvements to the Xbox One's media player and other firmware components in the next system update due this fall.

hopefully the Sept update will include the Media Player App.

I don't know what else id like them to add in feature wise. The media play back would be neat, but something id use VERY infrequently, so i don't really care when that comes.

I rather MS say that ALL games will be available to preorder/pre install rather than leave that up to the publisher, but at least the option will be there for some games.

Media playback is as big as it gets for me.

I would like CD support. At this point, I see nothing holding that back, except possibly a lack of demand.

What I would like, but I doubt we will get, is local emulation for original Xbox games. That would be a nice gesture to longtime Xbox fans / owners.

What are you people watching off flash drives that that feature is so important? Do you not have cable? Or access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc?

But seriously, let's be honest. Most of us have a ton of content on our USB drives, that, we like to watch, or listen to.

It's as big a part of my media collection as DVDs and Blu rays are.

doesn't the X1 already support CD playback??

Really? I don't get that. Iv got blu rays and tv shows. Why would i need to transfer them to a flash drive to watch off my system? Id just either put in my blu ray or go to one of the many streaming services. Unless you got all of that stuff digital and you transfer it to a usb.

for me, I have mp3 music files and mp4 video files ( like movie trailers or youtube vids ) that I store on a USB stick.

I don't think I even own *A* usb drive let alone many USB drives that I would need to care about that feature. Haha.
