Now I'm hearing things like it's not the mess the critics are making it out to be, form your opinion, etc. I feel like this is very unpredictable and makes me more excited than some super high rating where everyone bows to the movie.

Well I agree with the form your own opinion part. I'm not letting other people sway me on what I think when I see it. All the bad reception does is put me on my guard expectations wise. Same as when you hear a lot of positive response about a movie your anticipation levels naturally rise. But at the end of the day you'll like it or you won't, and not because of what other people think. Unless you're a mindless sheep who hops on bandwagons.

No, it's not just about the fans and if they bought tickets. And no, some critics do pay attention to how the film is crafted.

the fact that Zack thought suckerpunch was too complex for some to understand/thought it was ahead of its time just says it all about the guy.

he thinks he's some sort of philosophical genius who's work is misunderstood, when in reality he's just a glorified tv commercial director who made one solid zombie movie and a couple of subpar films based off of graphic novels.

As I said in the BVS section the other day, he's got the maturity of a 13 year old and the pretentiousness of an art school brat.

I feel bad for Affleck, because he brought it. He gave a solid performance (though nothing earth shattering) and proved his haters wrong. But everything else about the movie is also wrong, so he is in the kind of commercial misfire he has spent over a decade avoiding. It is like all those bad memories of the early 2000s are flooding right back.
