The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 2

Yikes, DC have to wait a year and a half before Justice League. They really have to hit hard with Suicide Squad. A year later is Wonder Woman, but the last half of 2017 is a long time when you just dropped a movie that most people don't seem to care about. All the while Marvel may be reaching a higher plateau.

Civil War seems to be a serious contender for best MCU movie yet. I'm excited.

Apparently the directors of John Wick helped the Russos craft the action sequences. No wonder people are going crazy about the action.

I re-watched The Winter Soldier today and yeah... I want more fight scenes like that. Some of the best CBM choreography ever.

The command the Russos have over tone in CIVIL WAR is masterful. One minute you're laughing so hard you miss lines; the next you're in tears

Yeah. That's what I wanna hear. There's nothing 'real' about being endlessly dour and grim. Real life has a balance of light and dark. The best directors are those that can juggle various tones in a flick seamlessly.

I am trying to keep my expectations in check, but these early reviews have all been so promising. Not just from the critics, even notable comic book writers and artists have been praising the hell out of this movie.

Meanwhile I haven't heard a peep about BvS from comic book artists and writers.

Other than Gerry Conway correcting Snyder on Batman killing in Returns. Ouch.

That and the jab taken at it by US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. That's even worse IMO.

^ Another reason to love Gerry Conway.

There was Batman v Superman jab in a WWE show too. Double ouch.

"Tyler breeze went down faster than Batman v Superman at the box office".

Right as we're discussing this, there's two people in class sitting next to me talking about how bad the film was.

Talk about perfect timing.

Ya'll seeing Civil War in IMAX? I feel like it's a must. My closest option is a LIE-MAX, though, but I might have to hit up the real deal IMAX for this one.

I wasn't gonna. But after hearing about the 17 minute IMAX airport fight among the heroes that is being described as the best superhero action put on film, I've got my tickets.

I'm seeing it in LieMAX. Better than nothing.

From Variety, brutal:

The shaming of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will continue apace — or better still, be forgotten entirely — in the wake of “Captain America: Civil War,” a decisively superior hero-vs.-hero extravaganza that also ranks as the most mature and substantive picture to have yet emerged from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Very much an “Avengers” movie in scope and ambition if not title (the conspicuous absence of Thor and Hulk notwithstanding), this chronicle of an epic clash between two equally noble factions, led by Captain America and Iron Man, proves as remarkable for its dramatic coherence and thematic unity as for its dizzyingly inventive action sequences; viewers who have grown weary of seeing cities blow up ad nauseam will scarcely believe their luck at the relative restraint and ingenuity on display.

The last part is sure to make many happy. It certainly makes me so.

I honestly think a good comparison would be comparing Nolans trilogy to the first season of True Detective and Snyders films as the second season of True Detective.

Don't get me wrong. Different genres, and Season 1 of TD is more masterful writing/directing/character development than anything seen in a comic book movie. But for the point im making, season 1 is dark and bleak but there's balance. Marty (Harrelson) balances out Rust (McConaughey) with humor. Characters surrounding the two leads act like real people. We have character arcs that feel earned. Season 2, which i liked a lot more than some folks, didn't have that balance or strength. Every lead character (4 this time instead of 2), were very depressive characters who all had moments of unnatural behavior and dialogue. Every lead was so philosophical and tormented much like Rust Cohle. Nobody was there to be normal, to call out their use of words or mood. Directing wasn't bad but messy compared to Cary Fukunaga's work in season 1. Multiple directors for season 2. Season 1 ended and there was hope, some natural humor but it still made you think. Season 2 ended and every single character had an ending that was just as depressing as when it began.

Apparently WB is launching a Hanna Barbara universe. YES! Will my dreams of a SWAT KATS live action movie finally come true?

Please no Snyder in these films.

I'll be seeing it in Cine Capri or XD.

I think I've met like 2 people who didn't dislike it.

Only the beginning. Marvel's group of heroes movie is going to inevitably be compared to DC's. If Civil War is half as good as we've been hearing, BvS is going to take an extra hammering for failing.

I guess when Feige compared the film to Batman Begins he was a tad more literal than we thought.
