The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 5

I think Marvel does a pretty good job putting the lid on things.

Nolan has actually blown a few good moments due to his penchant for location shooting. Remember Talia?

The majority of TDKR's secrecy was not well kept. Remember when someone managed to record the scene of Gordon/Catwoman/Batman?

I shared the majority's opinion for almost all of them. The only one I did not share was Pfeiffer being the best Catwoman. I, personally, consider Hathaway to be better.

Me too.

Yeah, Michelle Pfeiffer is not the character I think of when I read a story starring or involving Catwoman.

She was too plain as Catwoman... maybe it was Nolan or Hathaway but something didn't click about her character.

Hathaway was pure Catwoman despite her limited screentime. Maybe not as overtly sexual as Pfeiffer's rendition, but the sexyness and playfulness of the character were definitely there.

I thought Selina was one of Hathaway's sexier performances actually. She very often comes off as a bubbly nerdy chick who I think of as more "cute" than sexy, but as Selina she felt a bit more like an old school Hollywood femme fatale and to me it was sexy. It was different for her, but it was a fun performance that added a fresh element to the film and trilogy.

She didn't get as much emotional weight to play with as Michelle did, but I thought she made a fine Catwoman and overall it was a closer to definitive characterization of Selina.

A bunch of cbm polls with hundreds of thousands of votes (including best Batman/Joker/Catwoman).

Wow. Loving some of these massive weighty results;

- Tobey Maguire best Spider-Man by 104k
- Civil War better than BvS by 197k while BvS is only at 44k lol
- Heath leaving Jack and Leto in the dust with 204k votes, while the others are 27 and 14k. Poor Jack though ranked last. He's way better than pimp daddy Joker.
- Very surprised how close the Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway votes are.
- Really surprised X-Men beat First Class. Maybe nostalgia reasons won out there.
- Bale slaying the Batman vote with 170k while Batfleck and Keaton are left in the dust.
- Marvel movies whupping DC with 185k over 39k. I bet that 39k mostly went for Nolan's Batman movies.

Sublime link. Bookmarking that

Glad to see that the 'hate' for Tobias is only engaged by stupid fanboys.

And wow Bale. I personally prefer Keaton, but this completely dismantles the narrative that people hated Bale's Batman.

Nice to see Bale getting his due with that poll. I don't think I will ever care for another Bruce/Batman like I did his.

As for Anne as Selina, I thought she brought the sexual tension in her performance. Especially her first scene with Bruce, the scene right after when she tells the senator she needs a ride and Bruce and her again at the charity event.

The problem with her, or at least how she was used, is she just disappears in the second act. But really, I thought she was amazing as Selina. So much I actually bought her Hot Toys figure!

Pfeiffer as catwoman made me feel weird things as a child

she will always get my vote despite the total hackjob of her characterization

This is why overblown fanboy hate from a loud minority is often misleading. In fact you can't even always take fanboy polls at face value. There's a who's the best Spidey poll in the Spidey forums, and Tom Holland is in the lead, with Garfield second, and Maguire third (very close though). Here it is the other way around. Tobey in the lead, and Holland is left in the dust.

Just shows fanboy opinion doesn't always reflect a general consensus. Not saying it never does, but sometimes it doesn't.

The only two reasons why Michelle seems to have had more to work with, was because she was written as a loose-canon. A total nutjob having a nervous breakdown, which of course allowed Michelle to dig deep into those few scenes. Secondly, she was far more sl**ty than Anne's version. Both sexy, but in different ways.

You can be sexy without acting like a tramp.

There is something to be said about a full-on origin story shown on film. It connects that character/actor to the audience more than anything. People will always love Reeve more than anyone else. Maguire (unless Holland plays the character so many times that it sticks with everyone longer). Bale, as far as Bruce Wayne goes, will always be loved the most. Downey. Origin films that are done well of course.

Surprised Bale smoked Affleck and Keaton so hard in that poll. Holy crap. But goddamn, why did 29 percent vote for Halle Berry as the best Catwoman? Jeeeeezus.

Yeah, it was awesome. The "oops" reveal and faking being scared at the bar were playful and sexy to me. I loved the masquerade ball scene. Whispering into Bruce's ear and saying "maybe you're being unrealistic about what's really in your pants other than your wallet", kissing him then stealing his car.

It's a shame she didn't get more to do, but I really enjoyed the role.

As for Affleck and Holand, I can see their poll numbers increasing as the films go on. It's still early days. Even though it's possible Bale and Maguire remain on top.

But yeah, good to see Anne's Catwoman doing well in the poll.

This poll restored my faith in a lot of fandom.

probably posted before but I had never seen it and :hrt:

Yeah I saw that before. Its awesome. Hamill is the man.

His Arkham joker and heath are tied for me... but there is such a difference between the 2 i have trouble comparing them... it's exactly as Hamill says in that video IMO

Yeah. For live action Heath brought it to another level. For a balanced take of the character, Hamill delivers the goods. They're both solid.

Seeing TDKR wipe the floor with MOS in that poll definitely brought a smile to my face. There is hope for fandom after all. :yay:

I'm glad to see Tobey get some love too. I think Tom Holland has great potential, but I think all that "best Spidey evah!" talk was a bit hyperbolic and premature based on the little we got to see in Civil War. Eventually he may surpass the popularity of the previous two, but it's just too early to call yet.
