The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 5

It didn't do it as bad as Trump supporters rearing their dark side.
If that is any consolation.

Meh. Internet gonna internet.

I think those who took their anger out on the critics were just pissed that WB/DC screwed up again, and delivered another sub-par film. Was it the right thing to do? Heck no. But I can definitely see where the bad blood was with some of these "fans".

At the end of the day, it's not the critics fault for calling it like they see it. If anything these fanboys should have sent out death threats to WB/DC. Not really, but you get the point.

Sorry, I don't buy that. If they were angry at WB, they wouldn't be contriving reasons over how the critics are paid off. That is a testament to their unshakable , borderline religious faith that WB/DC are perfect and any criticism is a flaw in those that are criticizing it or are bought to do it.

I see where the article is coming from, people generally need to chill when it comes to this stuff...but this bit is wrong:

In a twisted punchline that would make Leto's Joker wheeze with laughter, Suicide Squad raked in an admirable $135 million over its opening weekend, dwarfing the previous record-holder for a three-day take in August, Guardians of the Galaxy's $94.3 million debut in 2014. The power-mad fans have effectively won, voting with their ticket purchases to ensure that their voices will continue to dominate discussion by any means at their disposal, and guaranteeing that studios will continue to cater to their tastes.

The hardcore DC fanboys only make up an extremely small percentage of the audience and did not make that happen. I thought SS ended up being a pretty weak movie, but clearly it had some mass audience appeal and ended up being kinda critic proof.

Even the author's point about 22,000 people signing the petition...eh, in the grand scheme that's really not a lot. Especially when you consider an openly bigoted candidate like Trump has MILLIONS of supporters.

I don't believe those clowns are that delusional that they believe WB/DC payed off critics. Maybe they are, but that just screamed exaggerated fanboy moaning and groaning to me.

I could be wrong though, lol.

Oh they definitely are, I can’t help but take these people at face value. Maybe some are just using it as an excuse because they liked the movie, but I think a good majority genuinely think the critics are out to get DC. Nothing will improve if they think it’s just the critics.

Question for everyone here; obviously you're all superhero fans in some way otherwise you wouldn't be on this forum, but which of you are comic book fans, and which of you are strictly into the movies?

Also any merch collectors here? If so care to share some pics of your collections? I've got a nice collection of Joker merch. Started to really build up in the last few years so I bought a glass display case for some of it. Here's some of mine;

I think you know me as a comic book fan.
Ooohhh, Mega Drive games. :awesome:

You’ve got a great collection! I’m really digging that Marshall Rogers Dark Detective poster.

A comic book fan first and foremost, but I’m into both the movies and animated stuff.

Comic Book Fan.

The movies and cartoons were my gateway drug, though.

I do. A knowledgeable one at that.

A classic never dies. Still play it from time to time.

Same. I got into Batman through Batman Returns and then BTAS shortly after.

Thanks Pengy. I'm quite proud of it.

Never has a trashcan been more mesmerizing.

Jose Garcia Lopez is a hero.

lol thanks Batsy. What about you, or anyone else for that matter? You got any pics of your comic book stuff?

I feel like the uber geek displaying the nerd cave I call my bedroom here.

Comic book fan.

Intro'd to Superman via Fleischer 'toons (which I still love) when I was three or four (somewhere around '91-'92 anyway), then quickly onto the Reeve movies, B'89 and BR etc. Watched some of the Marvel 90's 'toons as well, which was my big intro to that side of the fence (to this day, I've still never got into DC cartoons).

Though I picked up a comic book here and there, they was always so different from the movies, in the middle of a story, and I never got them consistently (newsagents being extremely unreliable didn't help)... They didn't really catch on for me. I always seemed to know the broad strokes though, I think because I had a couple of those Visual History of Superman/Batman/Spider-Man books that I pored over.

In the intervening years, discovered Wizard Magazine (which I still kinda miss) and got stacks, mostly for the movie news, with comics being an awesome bonus. Finally got full-fledged into comics (and forums!) when BB and SR were announced and my hype instantly reached boiling point. I think that was '04. Instead of relying on newsagents, I tracked down a comic book store and it was off to the races.

I'm still a movie guy first and foremost (I work in movies and had a feature I co-wrote released on Netflix and a few other places earlier this year, and a short film I wrote and directed is in post right now)... But yeah, HUGE comic book fan.

I never got into the collectible side of things, though I've definitely thought about it on and off-- Mostly when people make me all jealous with their awesome collections like you just did, Joker.

Thank you, sir :woot:

I used to get Wizard magazine back in the day, too. I still have most of them. Great nostalgia looking back at when news for the likes of Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins was going around.

Great collection, Kane. But unless I'm blindly missing it here, do you not have Batman Begins?

Both. It's cheating but it's true. I was introduced to Batman first with the Burton movies and TAS and that lead me into the comics, starting mainly with Dark Knight Returns which blew my 13-year old mind when I read it. I'm more well-versed with the film side. I've gravitated more toward that art form but I'm really just in it for the story, regardless of the medium. I love the characters and I love each medium for its respective strengths. I will say though that, comparatively, comics have a very high barrier for entry. The continuity can be intimidating.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Brother Jack. Introduced to Batman mostly through the Burton films and TAS. As a kid I had loads of comics along with all my other superhero memorabilia. Went into a lull in the early 2000's with Batman, but my interest was sparked again with BB and I starting catching up on comics.

I'd read more, but time can be pretty demanding with work and other activities. I'm actually currently re-reading various old Spider-Man comics in my collection; with Homecoming on it's way next year.

Man you dudes really don't have a lot in your collections. Joker I thought you have way more than that but you have some really kick ass Joker figures/statues that I would love to have.
Quite small comic movie collections but not bad though.
I will upload my collection soon. I have an entire room just dedicated to Batman merchandise.
My fiance is letting us get the 1960s Batmobile for our wedding car with a Batman themed wedding.
I've been into Batman since 3 years old. Burton 89 is what got me into it. I have a $**,000 plus Batman collection. Pretty much every present I get is Batman related. My fiance and I sleep in a Batman themed bedroom.
I have a separate batman dvd/blu-ray collection that needs it's own section.
