This is what happens when you snuff your populist candidate in favor of an Establishment candidate to compete with a pseudo-populist candidate. Whenever this happens throughout history, the pseudo-populist candidate usually wins. And if he doesn't win the first time, another pseudo-populist candidate is always just a few years away. But they eventually win because the Establishment never learns.

It's history 101. You simply don't bet on a candidate like Hillary against Trump and expect her to win. You just don't.

This is why I roll my eyes at all these people shaming non or 3rd party voters. At the end of the day, you either inspire enough people to vote for you, or you don't. Hilary wasn't a strong pick for the Democrats, and now they're paying for it. She lost states that Obama was able to win in the past elections.

In a way, this election ruined any Marvel with Captain America for me. Unless Trump appears in one of the Phase 3 films, it means Cap stands by and does nothing while a Fascist is in the White House.

It doesn't ruin anything for me. The MCU films don't even use real life presidents. The Real Life US had a black president while IM3 gave us a white, fictional one.

It hurts it for me because Marvel always had that "we take place in the real world and reference real events" thing going for it that separated it from DC. It's gonna take genuine effort for me to suspend my disbelief that Cap doesn't even talk about Trump.

It's also one of my biggest gripes with Marvel and DC in general. I feel their characters are way more political at their core than they're portrayed, but they always tone that down to be mainstream. Less mainstream publishers like Vertigo and IDW don't have that issue (I know Vertigo is owned by DC but you know what I meant).

It's usually pretty cringey for me when a movie references the actual, current president. It immediately dates the film and breaks a level of illusion for me. I accept these films as reflections of reality but not actually taking place in the real world.

Well, Trump is already backtracking on his often repeated pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare, now saying that he might be open to compromise and he would consider keeping parts of Obamacare after his little chat with Obama.

So, we'll have to see how his presidency really pans out and which of his other extreme pledges fall to the wayside. He's going to quickly realize that it won't be remotely possible to achieve most of the things he claimed he'd do.
