The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Definitely it has a shot. I think at this point it would almost be a bit disappointing if it didn't reach 500 million domestic... It has the mega opening (obv) and it has good reviews/word of mouth.

I also maintain the May slate of movies is weak. Dark Shadows looks terrible and will attract the niche Depp/Burton audience. Battleship looks like a Transformers wanna be. MIB 3? Who exactly has been clamoring for this threequel? Anybody?

I think Avengers will run wild.

The Depp/Burton Niche is a pretty huge niche but I agree its not exactly another Alice. That isn't to say it won't bea hit, it could hit the female demographic.

Battleship reads flop to me. Based on an old board game, starring Rihanna...I don't know if that has box office pull.

However, people are underestimating MIB3 I think. Will Smith can still open a movie. MIB has a bit of a nostalgia factor now.

People in the box office forums are beyond stoked, they saying that $500M is the floor, with The Avengers possibly surpassing $600M domestic. **** is beyond insane. It's out of this ****ing planet.

nolan is a man of principle but not even post converting TDKR feels like a mistake, a mistake that may bite him in the bat arse.

Batfan here. These posts make me laugh. Nolan doesn't use 3D because he thinks it will help the box office, he does it because he believes it's trash. He could care less about the box office results.

Avengers is going to wipe its ass with everything in May.

I don't know if this's been posted, but in the US Avengers has made 200 million dollars in its first weekend!

It'll be king of the box office this year. Rises and Hobbit won't get to these numbers.

QFT

I find it funny that people were saying the exact same thing a few months ago.

"The Avengers is gonna come in at number 3 this year", "It's not a question of which movie is going to make more, it's a question of how much will TDKR beat Avengers by"...GTFO

He might not care. But the WB does

Haha, I'm sure they would have liked the extra money, but they have gotten enough from Nolan and his bat-franchise. *Hence why they gave him his way without 3D. Plus, I'm not really sure why people keep comparing Batman with this Avengers movie. They are completely different. I don't expect the general audience to like Batman as much as the Avengers. It isn't as corny or full of CGI.

200 million wow.:wow:. I guess TDKR is gonna be the arthouse film this summer.Lol. Seriously though , i have a feeling ASM is gonna have a harder time then TDKR . I think ASM has a bit of a tougher sell job in the sense that they have to explain to people ,"Hey look, this is new a thing...No Maguire, but here's the guy you may have seen in the Social Network...and we're kinda re-doing the whole origin thing again...etc".

Not saying that the film wont be a hit , but its not as easy the Avengers which has a bunch of guys people have seen and a new Batman film from a francise which is already established.

He's not lying. He's talking metaphorically. My explanation is the literal thing. He's a filmmaker trying to convince himself, and the readers, why he doesn't like 3D and prefers Imax.

Have ever thought about my previous post? Doesn't make any sense to you? You're watching 3D right now, with your eyes. A regular movie doesn't have depth. Do you understand?

I am looking at my computer screen right now. So it is in 3D?

Isn't as corny? You kidding? TDK was full of corn, just different type of corn. Po-faced, super serious that went into melodramatic corn. Like Harvey Dent's speech at the dinner table. I could literally hear the eyes rolling in the cinema.

Silly Bat fanatic.

Next will come the people saying it's pathetic that Marvel had to combine six superheroes to make decent bank, or that making over $1bn is underperforming for this movie.

"Corny" is when something tries to be funny/cool and isn't, from what I've heard with my own hears whenever the Avengers tried to be funny it succeeded.

So yeah, that description is a minority opinion judging from the numerous raves about The Avenger's humor shared by critics and audience members alike.

Not that anyone here is doing the exact same thing right now. Not a chance. :cwink:

Avengers isn't corny at all. Because it's fully self aware of how ridiculous a concept it is. The Bat movies aren't. They are so serious and unaware of how ridiculous the concept of a man dressed as a Bat fighting crime is that their earnestness kinda becomes corny. Typified by the speech by Dent at the dinner table. In my opinion anyway.

Or when something tries to be dramatic and cool and it's just melodramatic... aTDKchoo!

Knew 200M weekend was coming after that Saturday number but it's still great to see

Also...
Giant opening days for #Avengers in Russia ($17.9M THU) & China ($17.4M SAT) ahead of what will be huge runs there.
Um... holy hell

Trix are for Avengers?

See I can be just as corny.

The Avengers was really funny, no doubt. Some great humor scenes. But the story was incredibly dull and generic. Making an easy to follow plot, combined with heavy use of CGI and great actors = mainstream audience field day. I always thought the Avengers would beat TDKR. It's more a postmodern film than pretty much anything else I've ever seen.

It's technically not the same thing, especially considering that people here are going off of numbers while they had no numbers to gauge.

Oh and quite a few of the people that are saying that, are Batman/Nolan fans themselves so that says alot as well.
